I recently wrote something like 10-12 posts defending the light-touch approach to moderation on this site. No one can read those now. They’re lost along with everything else I’d posted in the last fortnight. Why? Because a 1FF ‘employee’ went rogue and you muppets didn’t have basic mitigation measures (e.g. daily back-ups) in place.

Given this, and the absence of any meaningful apology for the inconvenience caused, some critical comments from the users should be expected. And that’s all PP did, really. He could have made his point more respectfully, but respect is a two-way street. When avoidable fuck-ups and negligence lead to significant data loss and there isn’t the slightest hint of contrition, why should the criticism be respectful? You haven’t earned it.

You say everyone needs to be laid back, but one of the least offensive posters in the entire TFF/1FF community (going back to circa 2005) has just been banned/suspended and you can’t even give a coherent explanation as to why. If you can’t see why that’s a problem then you’ve lost it, mate. Completely lost it. And it’s not good enough to say it’s nothing to do with you. You are part of 1FF Admin and co-own the site. Take some fucking responsibility and sort it out. Quickly.

I also think we deserve to know who deleted half a month's worth of content and why, I don't understand why you're protecting the identity of the member who has just ruined tens/hundreds of threads. It feels as though the forum is stuck in time right now.

We've had little in the way of confirmation, but he's no longer mod and is banned. It's a reasonable conclusion that it was him, seeing as none of the other mod team are gone.

With regards to TPP - that issue has absolutely nothing to do with me and is the decision/perogative of someone else - as is whether they confirm the reasons why. As far as I'm aware, it was to do with trolling. In light of a few points made in your post, I will have a look back through the website and perhaps add some hindsight bans that could have been handled earlier. However, you must also understand that I'm not going to over-rule other people in the staff room and reverse decisions - that can be up to them and the person who is banned at a later date.

This is completely unsatisfactory. Why can't you overrule anyone in the "staff room"? If someone makes a unilateral decision with nothing by way of explanation why can't you, in the absence of any evidence, make your own unilateral decision to reverse it? I did fuck all, the guy responsible has swanned off on holiday for ten days and no one can offer up an adequate explanation as to why my account has been banned! Whole thing's a complete farce and rather justifies all the criticism that's been levelled at the powers that be of late.

Apologies for your and the rest of any lost posts. I understand the frustration. Backups had been happening daily and certainly every couple of days prior to the last few months - I would agree that's not best practice and is something that will be rectified from today onwards so this shouldn't be an issue again.

So, I apologise you have had to lose posts that you had spent time putting together and you can rest assured some of the points you have made/given will be taken into account. As I say, trying my best here - that's not to say it's perfect by any means but that's all I can do.

I think you need to review how members are banned then, it should be discussed properly and it should be reviewed. It should not just be left at one person's discretion as there is no accountability there. It has everything to do with you as you are an admin on the site.

It's a joke that TPP was banned especially considering how long other members have stumbled around posting inane rubbish for months.

If long established members are telling you there are issues with the forum then it's worth listening to them. They can tell you a lot more than visitor numbers and ad revenue will ever tell you. (I know your trying to do this with addition of a current affairs mod but still....)

Banning shouldn't be a unilateral decision. I've admined quite a few fora and Facebook groups. My policy has always been to discuss - yes a ban might have to happen urgently, but discuss it with fellow admins to make sure that they agree. If the majority disagree with the ban, don't ban or rescind the banning. Don't be too big to admit your mistakes.

A max suspension without consultation should be 3 to 5 days initially so admin and mods can discuss it and a majority decision made in the cafe.

To refuse to discuss it and potentially overrule is wrong. The mod and admin team need to run as one unit

I think there are certain names on this forum that should be safe from ever being banned. TPP's certainly one of them and being banned for a month is ridiculous, especially when the reason is "trolling."

As much as I agree with enforcing the rules, some of decisions need to be taken cautiously.

For example, I know me and Ian have had our hardships in the past but in truth he's loved on here and the forum would be much more boring without him. Same with Martino, he fucking bores me sometimes but both help the forum banter and activity while people like StevenCC and SALTIRE are keeping the football sections up and running. Banning established members of the forum can be risky regardless if they break the rules or not. If they do something really bad, then go ahead but trolling isn't a good enough reason as this forum is full of them. I've been on many forums and there is far more WUMing on here than some other places, and I'm not saying that in a bad way. Sure it can get out of hand at times but that's when to step in and enforce the rules. I'm talking about all that personal info stuff which must be respected. Most people don't take the WUMing seriously and that's a good thing.
