I get the impression from this thread that Morecambe are going to be the leagues whipping boys.
It depends on if they manage to hit their target of 46 goalless draws as 46 points should just about see them safe.

Given how defensive they are, I doubt they will be. They seem to dig out draws all the time.

I think Morecambe's fate depends on whether there are any real car crashes in the division. Their own foundations are starting to look a bit shaky and no-one's really come to the fore as this season's Chesterfield, yet. Normally they manage to finish sort of bottom out of all the teams who aren't total basket cases.

To be fair at the start of August no one saw Chesterfield being as they were.

Looks fairly open on the face of it so far in terms of no one other than possibly Morecambe stand out as expected to struggle yet, Macclesfield need some bodies in though as do Carlisle (but Sheridan should see them safe).

Stevenage were in free fall after November for a long period and have lost a couple of big players maybe they could be one?

Morecambe are snapping up 18 year old Spanish kids, I'm waiting to see how that pans out before writing them off. Even if they are down there, Bentley will have them in good enough shape so that they don't get tonked every week. They'll fight for every point way before they're in danger. More often than not in this division at least one of the worst two teams on paper are saved by "better" teams realising too late that they are in a real scrap.

Before Oldham got relegated, they were league 1's version of Morecambe, always down there in the end, always with a large amount of losses and a crap goal difference, but stop up due to the bottom teams being absolutely shite

I think you've both summed up Morecambe the same as I did to UTS just now before reading your posts. They always rely on someone being absolutely shockingly terrible, which by and large there is. I can't really see any of the relegated sides from league 1 struggling (and apart from MK, I can't see any of them near the top either), and Tranmere should be more than fine.

Be interesting to see how Grimsby fare this season after a dire end to the season

I thought Grimsby's end to the season was quite decent

The last 4 or 5 games wereb't bad, but surely alarm bells would be off if you've gone 22 games or so without a win

Not sure if that is a windup, or you just didn't follow the relegation battle that closely, or you're talking about the end of the season as a longer period than the last 5/6 games. I think we topped the form table with 13pts from the last 6 games.

Those 22 games were almost completely down to Slade and a substantial amount of the players have left. I think including loanees we've shipped out 17 this window? I'd be more concerned about your end to the season than ours, mate!

I think that's partly it with Morecambe, they do all season long what most teams only resort to doing when they've already given the rest of the division a fifteen point head-start.

I also picked out Yeovil as a team that could struggle. Everything about them right now just seems so 'meh' and negative and they seem to have gradually worsened during their time down here.

We'll see, of course I saw that you ended the season well. Maybe you'll be safer in mid-table this term, time will tell

I was and am still very concerned about the end of last season and Flitcroft, though we "should" still have enough about us to be in the play-offs or there abouts

Completely forgot about Mansfield (easily done)... would be fun to give Flitcroft some stick. Although he’d be having the last laugh I imagine since we’ve been relegated since his departure.

We would have been relegated a year earlier had that idiot stayed.

2 flitcroft sides playing one another is enough to make anyone shudder

If it ends up being a Flitcroft side vs an Ex Flitcroft side then our chairman might start fighting after Flitcroft played them off one another. First saying he had never had so much passion for the Bury FC job and waffling on about his love of the chairman. I noticed he said the same about your chairman aswell. Let us hope our Stewie isn't the jealous type.

Really holding back in turning this into a rant about that deluded, egotistical Bolton tosspot now.

Don't worry, we're stuck with him now. It only took him 12 games to fuck us over

That is very true. Christ what an awful time that was. 5-0 and 5-1 defeats at Wimbledon in the same week.

Glad others are now outing Flitcroft as a fraud.

Only liking and not saying anymore as it will turn into a massive Flitcroft rant.

I don’t really think many of our fans want him here, he offered absolutely nothing in the last 12 games at all - we’re kinda resigned to it and hoping for the best.

I mean, he could be amazing. One thing going for him is that he’ll be able to stamp his mould on the team and get his own players in. Again, whether it works out remains to be seen

There is a poll on Stagsnet asking if they want Flitcroft in or out.

The result was 2 to 1 in wanting to keep Flitcroft.

There was one on Facebook which had 340 odd votes and for every 10 who wanted him 18 wanted him out.

Even those on stagsnet probably only voted to keep him in as they realised though we made a mistake we had to keep with him for a while given the contract we’ve given him.

Those that really want him in as manager completely confuse me, maybe they don’t go often

Also see Yeovil as a possible struggler. They seem to be in a season on season decline.

Tranmere so that the FGR supporters will have chance to applaud them on promotion and thank them for their gentlemanly attitude towards FGR fans after they lost the promotion final the previous season.
They built up a lot of good will from us that day.

Jesus, maybe just play some tiddlywinks instead of the football too while you are at it?
