Who is the worst player to wear your team's shirt?

We had Spiegel for one match last season as a last-minute loan when our regular keeper got injured. Unfortunately that match was at Bristol Rovers and the first time he met his new team mates was when the coach picked him up on the way to Bristol an hour or two before kick-off.
That lack of familiarity between the keeper and his defence probably contributed to both Rovers' goals in our 2-1 defeat there.

He can't use that argument for his time with us. For one, some of the goals he let in were just calamitous... he let one, two, maybe even three from memory slip right under him, or came out to tackle strikers and missed. For two his kicking was disastrous. He must hold a record for percentage of goal kicks going out for throw-ins.

Dan Hanford's kicking was suspect and then after he let a poor goal in he was dropped and Spiegel brought in and it was just hilarious how Spiegel was actually even worse than Hanford in the exact same areas that got Hanford dropped in the first place. Spiegel played, 3 games I think, and then Hanford was back, even sorted his kicking out, perhaps sitting on the bench watching a keeper worse than you are in your spot and having to dive out of the way of as yet another goal-kick smashes into the roof of the dugout was a good experience for Hanford.

The less said the better I think. He'll do the difficult part of his job in tackling the opposition player, but then he'll essentially do their job for them by playing the ball to a different opposition player. We got him in January to stop the goals coming in, it worked to an extent but then we realised he's shite and he's transfer listed now.

Christ we've had some shite stealing a wage over the years but the two worst imo have to be jp kalala- a thug whose entire game consisted of kicking people and jerel Ifil - incredibly slow and terrible at defending which is unfortunate for a defender .

One armed goalkeeper Eric McManus is the worst I can remember. Signed by player/manager Frank Worthington in 1986, Eric only had the use of one arm as the other was paralysed. How the hell he passed his medical and got through pre season training is a mystery Worse still he actually started the season between the sticks.

With that said it has to be one of Kyle Perry or Chris Slater who we signed on the basis of them being part of the Chasetown team that beat us in the FA Cup. Perry was here the longest of the two and can’t think of one aspect of the game he had any basic competence at.

Yeah Ex didn’t work out but have avoided mentioning him because it never sat right with me some of the abuse he got at Accrington. Went way over the line.

Michael Theoklitos played one game in goal for us in 2009/10. We lost 7-1 to Colchester at home and Theoklitos looked like we'd picked some random guy up off the street and put him in goal the way he was flapping at things and how he had zero positional sense whatsoever.

He never played for us again, moved back to Australia and shortened his surname to "Theo". One of many truly terrible players we had in the years of 2007-2010, and definitely the worst of the lot.

In our better times more recently, Tony Andreu was shockingly poor and woefully out of his depth even at Championship level, only signed by Alex Neil because they were mates at Hamilton before he came here.

Michael Ngoo, was hilarious when he played for us - pure comedy. The definition of bambi on ice.

But in more recent years Russell Martin was dog shit despite his pedigree.

The worst ability to defend for a defender would be Luke Leahy, a liability who played every game and is still playing every game now a division above based on being decent going forwards - but I've never seen worse defensively from a "defender".

Andreu is a decent player for the smaller SPL clubs but that only puts him at top of League 2 level at most.

Some of the players from way back when would make most of the long time professional supporters hurry to their graves so they could turn over in them! We had a centre forward who scored 2 goals from open play after playing nearly every game one season. Imagine the level of the player who was thrown out of the side when we signed him?

Lee Elam, Magnus Okuonghae, Lee Barnard, Rene Gilmartin (keeper I never saw make a save, last seen at Colchester where he technically did by having a header hit him in the face), Andre Blackman....how many do you want?

We've had lots of generally horrendous players that got too much positive recognition. They could have the ball control of an amputee yet but the Barrow public are suckers for players that run round like a headless chicken, because they are 'putting the effort in'.

Not guilty of the above but Harry Panayiotou is up there with one of the worst players in recent memory. Refer to the 'shit strikers thread' in the NL section for more entries.

If I try and rule out loanees and short term contracts who were way off the pace, kids who played a couple of games before it was clear they wouldn't make it at this level and players who fans' main complaint was that they were injured then we're left with Eric Gates.

Before my time, so I've nothing to add myself but he is talked about a lot on the forum as our worst ever player. What's said about him makes him sound like the usual case of player who have had a good career at a higher level and think that coming to the lower leagues is going to just be one last paycheque that they don't have to work for. That they can just stroll around and will just naturally boss it over the lesser talents around them.

We have had too many shocking players to pick from.

I would have to go for that answer too, during the seasons where we were struggling to stay in the Conference, on one occasion (09/10) finising in the relegation places but being saved by Salisbury going bust...or having financial issues that made them non-compatible with the league. During that season it appeared that half the squad wanted to be there and played their hearts out most games, but just weren't good enough, and the other half (loanees and journeymen) couldn't really give a damn what happened as long as they got paid...never a recipe for success.
