Remember some of the 86 world cup but was only 5 so couldn't pick a hero just remember despising Maradona so my first proper hero was David Hirst.

For the uneducated, local lad from Barnsley who we nicked for 200k as they were fucked a bit money wise, he was just 18 (bastards got us back though with Larry May). Raw but powerful striker, left footed but got goals with his right and head too, blossomed in his 3rd year at the club and became the talisman a year later. A truly natural striker but an absolute pillock to himself had he had the Shearer desire to play and not be jack the lad I honestly believe he'd have been as good as the Jawdee, him not getting the move to Man Yoo did him as Fergie wouldn't have stood for some of the antics.

In the playground at school I just wanted to score goals like him shame I was right footed and fat so in time I emulated Big Neville Southall.

That header at the back stick against Germany is one that’ll stick with me forever. We were in the local miners welfare and the whole place erupted, I’d never seen anything like it at 10 years old.

My first Derby hero was probably Seth Johnson. Shame really considering the talent available to idolise in those early years but that’s who I liked the most.

As a 9 year old who was used to watching shite every week, Terry Curran came along and became an instant hero of mine and the darling of Hillsborough.
Only player I ever had a poster of, he was much too good for the 3rd tier and his talent was obvious for all to see, add to this a charisma that these days is lost to the game and he just stood out immensely.
His celebration in front of the massed Unitedite's during the famous boxing day game and the fantastic goal in the return match at the Lane only added to the Hero Worship.

Sadly marred with his following move to the filthy side of the city, but over time I have forgiven him.
He remains one of my all time favourite players, along with the legends of the early 90s era.
