United, Liverpool, and Arsenal aren't really much behind Man City. personally wouldn't be surprised if City fall from 2nd, much more compete with Chelsea. Kompany seems a bit lost and Yaya is going to deteriorate with age (if he hasn't already). Silva is class, but getting up there in years. Don't think he's significantly better than Özil, Di Maria, Coutinho, or Cazorla. Bony could prove an excellent foil for Aguero, but they need better support than just Nasri and Silva. Navas and Milner aren't high quality options. I prefer our ability to bring Walcott, Rosicky, and Oxlade-Chamberlain into the mix.

I think the top four race will be competitive until the last weekend with the two Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham competing for three spots. Sadly I think Southampton fall off the pace.

I thought Van Gaal was supposed to win you the title with the "Best" strike force in the league :D
Yeah Phil Neville predicted they'd win the league this year, what happened?

I'd have thought that of all the sets of fans Liverpool fans would know you need more than just the "best" strike force to win the league. Suarez and Sturridge ring any bells lads?

Liverpool and other teams vyiing for the league have never had refs in the back of their pockets though so you may have a point there ;)

Whilst I take the point, the argument that if we'd had a better defence last season we'd have won it neglects to take into account that it the system being changed & moulded to suit our attacking talents so well that made us that good and got us that close. It made us a more attacking side but conversely more open defensively, and sparked our superb post-Christmas, post-Villa form. If we'd have been more 'solid', sacrificing some of that attacking verve would we have got as near? We were as low as 6th still in January, 7/8 points off first until mid February.

There's also the argument to be made that having a better 3rd choice than Aspas would've won it us, considering Sturridge was unfit for the game that lost us the league... ;)

Liverpool didn't win the league because Rodgers thought that tactic was going to work forever, he wasn't malleable.

That and Gerrard playing for himself against Chelsea, trying about fifty Hollywood strikes to try and redeem himself for his tumble.

Funny how tactically for the majority of last season Rodgers got almost everything correct showing he was malleable in changing set ups.

The Chelsea result was crucial of course and tactically that game was one in which Rodgers did get it wrong and they couldn't find a way through; but the league was lost with the goals conceded in other games anyway and it was Skrtel and Johnson that lost Liverpool the league with their woeful defending last term.

Agreed, I mean even at his peak he was only decent what one in every three games? Anyway, apparently he's 'rejected' Liverpool's new contract so will be off in the summer anyways.

GJ was ahead of his time. Or a fucking age too late. Not defensively good enough to be a fullback, not quite good enough going forward to be a winger, his attributes would have been perfect for a career as a wingback, but no one in the premier league adopted a system that used them til his career was on a wind down. And Yoot has him beat.
