Thought the French back 4 were excellent. Especially Renard.
Good win against a good England side. Will be interesting to see how they'll do in the rest of their games.

Blimey what a fantastic goal that was from Columbia to make it 1-1.

Should have dicked them 3-0 imo. The gulf in technical ability is better than a solitary goal. Although the game was a bit shit, England offered no reaction despite losing a World Cup game. An expected win all in all.

Two or three years ago England would have gone down by something like 3-0 to a team as good as the French, who it has to be said are one of the favourites to lift the cup, in the end they were defeated by a cracking good finish following a defensive mix-up. No shame in losing the game like that, they definitely improved in the second half, although the French were a bit lucky not to have a player sent off for an elbow in the face. The next two games in the group are certainly easier and I expect England to finish second and not need to rely on being one of the best third placed sides.

Seriously doubt that England will go out in the group stages. You basically have to finish bottom of the group to do so.

In more recent news, Leeds have been relegated from the Premiership.

Germany drew with Norway 1-1. Deserved result really. Germany opened the score early on (6th minute) and were playing fantastic stuff in the first half but the chances were either easy to stop or not on target. I must say Norway gave a lot of space in midfield but as soon as the Germans entered the area there was no way to find a pass.
Norway started to wake up towards the end of the first half and equalised via a free-kick in the second where Germany were toothless.

Norway will be very tough to knock out. Remind me of Japan 4 years ago.

Currently switching between both China-Holland and Ivory Coast-Thailand. China look a very decent side, some of their one touch passing is superb, they lack a final ball and real quality effort on goal though, which may mean Holland nick it, looking like 0-0 though.
I'm more watching the Ivory Coast game though as I've seen a better standard at Essex Senior level, that's kinda what I love about these games though, you'd never get Bowers & Pitsea v Southend Manor televised.

Also, is it utterly wrong of me to want the teams with the best looking women to win? I'm sure it's completely sexist or something but I know plenty of women who when they watch mens football do the same thing, so equality rains as far as I'm concerned.

Well China finally scored in the 91st minute, well deserved 1-0 win against the Dutch, if they had a goalscorer they could be a real threat. In the other game the Ivory Coast managed to miss a sitter at one end then Thailand went down the other and scored - after watching their opening 10-0 defeat to Germany and now this game I can safely say the last sunday league team I played for defended better as a unit than the Ivory Coast women - suppose they know what to work on though!

Swiss player just scored a 5 minute hattrick against a woefully out of their depth Ecuador.
The opening 15 minutes of the USA-Sweden game is quite even.

USA-Sweden was a very even game, America had a bit more sustained pressure but Sweden had better opportunities.
Switzerland-Ecuador was very uneven 10-1 in the end, Ecuador make Ivory Coast look good

Pretty even and entertaining game, US very lucky with the ball that hit the post. Anyways, all US needs is a draw in their final game against Nigeria, while Sweden has to beat Australia.

Watched the first half of USA/Oz. Terrible game. US look toothless without Wambach. Sweden definitely improved defensively from Nigeria but the game was very, very shit.
Poor Ecuador.

France are playing today!

Apart from being big, Wambach was awful when she came on as substitute. They need to start Alex Morgan <3

Colombia are still beating France with 20 mins to go, although France should of had a penalty a few mins ago for a clear hand ball in the area.

1-0, Kirby with the goal who has been the only one likely to make something happen.

I've no idea how Aluko has managed 90+ caps.

Largely because she can run. Without her pace she's nothing. Her touch is diabolical.

This Kirby is a superb little player. She should be one of the first names on the teamsheet judging by this. The girl can play. Karen Carney should get more starts as well. She always seems to come off the bench but again technically, she's good. I'm glad the overrated Ellen White got dropped as well. Duggan and Kirby offer far more than her. This Lucy Bronze looks like a player as well.

Once again, Karen Bardsley proves that she is bloody rubbish.

Next game, play a diamond with Moore, Scott, Williams and Carney. Then have Duggan and Kirby up front. Aluko can come on if we need a runner late on against a tired defence.

Bronze (if fit) and Greenwood are good enough to provide support down the flanks.

Great to see a Reading girl doing well for the England team. Don't watch too much of the Women's game but seems to be a massive focus on the 'names' rather than the up and coming players.

Think i'm right in saying that in the first 140 minutes of this league season Kirby had scored 7 goals for Reading. Far too good for the second division.
