Because you obviously have grandparents from there or something, right? ;)
Nope simply coz I've always liked them. As a Scot who has only seen us there three times (ok five times, but I was too young to remember '78 and '82) in my lifetime I've got to root for someone or three!?!

Was it because we kicked your asses so bad in 78 that it also gave you amnesia? ;)

Of course I meant the rankings, didn't you read my post? ;). So what? Even if you have no competition matches because you're the Host you could do way better in the fifa rankings by playing lots of meaningless friendlies against good teams and winning them and better your position. Although friendlies don't count as much as competition matches in the calculation of the fifa rankings they still count. But To rank behind Cape Verde at #65 atm is proof that Russia is shite in football and the place in pot 1 should be given to the 1-8 teams in the fifa rankings and not to 1-7 + 65.
Doesn't matter all that much imo. I doubt Russia will get past the group stage even if they get the worst sides of each pots.

Of course it matters because we can't get Russia in the group stages. Would be so much fun to see them "destroyed" by Germany in Moscow (or whereever they play...I doubt it will be Königsberg (Kaliningrad) ;) ). And, as you say, in the next stage we won't get them either because they are already eliminated :D

and I might win a few million bucks in the lottery. Everything is possible.

btw: As soon as I read R16 the funny car R16 from Renault from the 70's came to my mind. Thanks for reminding me of this ;)

Remember me of what Harald Schmidt was saying at the 98 WC after weve beaten the states:

Germany has beaten the United States on French soil. Some of the elder spectators had tears in their eyes....

What a great World Cup that was. Then you knocked out a determined Mexico (thanks to Bierhoff) but then you got mullered by the Croats.

Then Euro 2000. And then! I could go on...

*this post has got nothing to do with Lib, and I am absolutely not trolling or anything*

I might have missed it but did FIFA issue a statement on the unsavoury incidents before the Peru match? Are they OK with people shining laser pens into the faces of the NZ players? Or fans letting off fireworks in an attempt to deprive the Kiwis of their beauty sleep, while jet fighter planes fly overhead? They were playing a side ranked in 122nd place, so just imagine what they'll do if they ever meet a half decent side.

In all seriousness, FIFA has got to act before the fans of other sides attempt to do what the Peruvians did. I can't see this happening in this country, or places like Germany, France and Spain, but I'm sure there are some countries that wouldn't think twice.

What's that got to do with it? You're saying it's alright to shine laser pens into the faces of your opponents. Not forgetting all the dirty tricks the locals resorted to in order to make the Kiwis stay awake. I don't know what anybody else think, but I can't stand cheating and fair play should be No 1 on the agenda. The fact that they were only playing a side like NZ, a side comparable to European minnows like Estonia or Belarus, makes it even worse IMO.

I'm not saying FIFA should punish Peru and kick them out of the WC. It's done and dusted and they deserve to be there. All I'm saying is that FIFA should warn all countries that such behaviour will not be accepted in the future.

Dude its common behavior in the Americas. NZ have no right to complain given the Mexicans did the exact same thing at the Azteca in 2013. They should have seen this coming otherwise that was ill preparation.

Yeah I get it, it's common behaviour in SA but that doesn't make it right. If I go to watch a match in some Eastern European country like Serbia and Croatia and get beaten to a pulp, will I think 'ah, this is common behaviour in these parts so it's OK'? I think not.

Its not OK, but its behavior that is difficult to eradicate and punishing the team isn't the right form of action. If anything its New Zealand's fault for not preparing for it despite being in Mexico just 4 years ago.

Regardless the absurdity of it being their fault because it happened to them before too, how could they have prepared differently to mitigate your countrymen's awful behaviour?

The last few months have shown just why nobody has missed Peru from previous World Cups. From the PEDs to the underhand deprivation of an opponent's rest, and now this story breaks. I don't want to post the whole thing but here are a few excerpts.

Fifa has warned Peru that a [...] new law would break the governing body's rules...

... the new law would see government take over Peru's football association...

Such a move would go against Fifa rules, and the body is investigating.

the Peruvian Sports Law, which was presented to the respective committee of the Peruvian congress on 2 October 2017, includes certain items that [...] contravene the Fifa Statutes.

Fifa rules do not allow governments to interfere in the running of national associations.

the government proposing to take control of the Peruvian FA.

It's one thing after another TBH. Not sure when enough will be enough with these guys.

After this latest outrage I have decided to stop recognising Peru as a nation. As far as I am concerned, there are only 194 countries in the world - and one patch of pure garbage. Peru.

Thank you for being honest.

Would you go as far as to say that Peru should no longer actually be recognised as part of our world and, therefore, suggest that they were, in fact, ineligible for a World Cup.

#FIFA finally announced #WorldCupDraw procedure. Here are the draw #probabilities for #England, based on 100,000 simulations using the official rules. Small fluctuations due to finite nb of simulations. Watch the impact of geographic constraints + how they mess up with Russia

Tried and have so far failed to get tickets in Kaliningrad for the Group E game between the 2nd and 4th seed. Any plans for that game will go out of the window if England are drawn in that group.
