It does make you wonder why some of these plonkers have been reffing in the Conference for years. If they were any good they would have been promoted into the EFL, and having seen some of them there it's not exactly hard to do. I'd have given up by now if I was Sam Allison or Johnson (forgotten his name but he's been around for ages).

Us against Posh last season, it’s about 1.40 into the clip. What made the whole thing worse was we could have still had a chance of auto promotion if we had beaten Peterborough.

I remember this as well. Utterly laughable.

Always three that stick out for me.

The first one was Adam Marriott being flagged offside from a throw-in at Gateshead a few years back. The basic nature of that wrong decision was staggering.

Secondly, Alan Marriott getting first to a through ball, sliding at the feet of a striker in the box, punching the ball back up the pitch and the ref gave a penalty.

And also this peach from George Cain back in 2003/04.

Skip to 1:06 here and see the penalty we were awarded at Swindon when Harry Cardwell tripped over his own feet.
We won 1-0 and this helped keep us up.

This was a quite obvious trip, albeit probably accidental. However, it was outside the box.

Defender headed it on. If so, not offside.

He used to be quite good when he refereed us, always let the game flow.

Complete contrast to the referee at Wealdstone yesterday who thought we'd come to see him and blew up for every little contact. Came across very arrogant in my opinion

According to Rob on the commentary, it was only his second NL game this season and he only did one last year. Trying to make an impression on the assessor?

Agreed, soft fouls for both sides and would not let the game flow.

Worst decision from non league I know most of our fans will say Ross Joyce in the play off final not sending off Bristol Rovers keeper but much as that was a shit decision that was a case of the ref bottling it and just not wanting to give out a red card, so the worst decision for me was away at Altrincham where we had a goal given against us, but Alty had a camera on the goal line and it showed that the ball barely got to the line let alone fully crossed it, and we lost that game 2-1.
Hahaha I remember that game very well, you battered us. Agree, it was a shocker, and our second was the softest goal I've ever seen. Finished way past 10pm as well after Tom Marshall broke his ankle. I remember walking to the car listening to the disbelief in the voices of the Grimsby fans.

The worst I can recall was because of weakness rather than just being plain wrong. It was an FA cup game in 2015 against Chester. We were awarded a penalty, and I'm fairly sure the ball actually got as far as the penalty spot before the Chester players effectively just argued him into changing his mind. Wigglesworth I think it was.

I think that was balanced by that penalty you got in the playoffs.

Well, quite. The injustices will even themselves out over time, and they are all ultimately meaningless anyway, in the grand scheme of things.

Another example of how the players can influence the officials at any level really.

It's not right but if they get away with it they won't care.

We see it all the time in the Premier league etc.

It was Andy Booth who headed it on, he admitted it himself years after the game.

So what? If the officials thought the defender flicked it on, it is perfectly understandable that the goal was allowed. It is far from conclusive watching the video.

The players surrounding the officials were presumably making that same point. I cannot believe they were all simultaneously trying it on, so at least some of them presumably believed the defender had flicked it on.

So far in this thread, the only truly awful decision was the Peterborough penalty awarded against Lincoln.

Well, yeah, obviously, because that's how offside works. But the defender didn't flick it on, it was the attacker and therefore offside and a (very) bad decision.

I'm sure I've seen worse, but one that always sticks with me because of how costly it was.

Our relegation season 2007/2008, Macclesfield away. 2-1 up last 10 mins, Robbie Garrett tries to charge a clearance from Macc 'Keeper who strangely jumped on his back. Garrett shrugs him off, they have words but nothing nasty. Ref decides to book them both, Garrett already on a yellow gets sent off and we end up conceding twice in stoppage time to lose 3-2.

Ref was Lee Probert who ended up in the Prem, he'd been rubbish all day and pulled tongues at the Wrexham fans....I was Livid!

2.15 below you can see Garrett go for the charge down but the camera doesn't capture the 'incident'.

We should have been relegated for that kit.

I've just watched the video again, and in my opinion it actually looks quite clear that the defender flicked it backwards. Fair enough if you disagree.

Regardless, I think terrible decisions are those where there is no reasonable explanation for giving the decision the way the officials did. In this case, there is significant doubt, in which case benefit of doubt should go to the attacking team, which it did.

I watched that game again last night, and noticed that during the melee leading to Michael Rankine's "goal", a Grimsby defender pulled a real Chiellini on one of our players, so what go around come around and all that.

Ross Joyce in the play-off final just won’t be beaten given the gravity of the game and the ramifications it had.

For a goalkeeper to rush out, handle a goal bound shot going over his head and not send him off is mad enough. To justify it by saying you didn’t want to ‘ruin the game’ is Fucking mental.

No you're right, the game in which Maradona's hand of god happened wasn't half as important. Ross Joyce's non-decision will forever stick in the minds of football fans across the globe.

If you think Cardwell was actually tripped there then I would love you to referee all of our games this season.
