Using thewwfc scales of judgement for Carlisle United…
  • Can’t string two passes together ✅
  • Can’t put in a decent cross ✅
  • No pacey players to scare the defence ✅
  • Toothless up front - so on the rare occasions a chance is created, it’s wasted✅
  • Powderpuff and easily bullied off the ball (not quite a tick for this)
  • Leaky defence ✅
  • No bite in the midfield to cover the defence ✅ (since the injury to Guy)
  • Nervous goalie (was a tick but with signing Lewis hopefully that’s changed)
  • Heads drop the minute things go wrong✅
  • Fans have no faith in the team and grumble the minute things go wrong (if all fans were like me then big tick, but a lot of our fans don’t realise how bad we are and actually think we can stay up)

Nah. You looked shit but no more or no less than the glut of mediocrity clogging up this division.

To be honest, I think Carlisle are the only team I’ve seen in the drop spots, and I wouldn’t even say they looked like relegation certs, just a bit inept.

To me, a true “worst team in the division” contender should display a potent (or rather impotent?) combo from the following:

  • Can’t string two passes together
  • Can’t put in a decent cross
  • No pacey players to scare the defence
  • Toothless up front - so on the rare occasions a chance is created, it’s wasted
  • Powderpuff and easily bullied off the ball
  • Leaky defence
  • No bite in the midfield to cover the defence
  • Nervous goalie
  • Heads drop the minute things go wrong
  • Fans have no faith in the team and grumble the minute things go wrong
I think most teams in this league could tick off a few of these, but the more apply, the worse it gets.
I think the only one of those we don't have is a nervous goalkeeper. Saved another penalty today. But I can add constantly getting booked for stupid fouls or dissent

Alongside Shrewsbury we have the longest stretch in league 1. Equally we have skirted with relegation on a couple of
Occasions over the years. We are rock bottom because that's where we deserve to be, in spite of a 3 rd new manager in less than 6 months it is difficult to see how we can avoid relegation and along withmy pals at the ground

( continuing from above )
we are quite reconciled to being in league 2. It's an interesting one, when we got promoted to league 2 some 9/10 years ago I said to anyone who cared to listen that I would be delighted to stay in league 2 for the next 10 years
Well we got promoted and I guess it's coming full circle eh. Here's the thing though, Fleetwood have some decent players, Brown and Johnson have failed to 'galvanise' them, it remains to be seen whether Charlie can, but if there's no upturn can the finger then be pointed at the players who are simply not doing a good enough job ?

Whilst I’ve accepted relegation and the fact we are the worst team in the league, I’m still hoping to see some improvements between now and end of April.

I want us to at least avoid ending up being remembered as the worst team there’s ever been in league 1. Because we’re in that territory at the moment.

Carlisle are 7 points behind the total FGR got last season and have 18 games to get them - I'm sure they won't be the worst ever.

Sorry, but Cambridge United have the 'Worst team in division 3/league 1 ever' award sewn up:

1984/5 - Played 46, W 4, D 9, L 33; F 37 A 95 ;Pts 21

We were basically bankrupt, and had an idiot (John Ryan) as manager for the first half of the season and a nearly dead person (Ken Shellito) for the second half.

We didn't win a game between Boxing Day and May 6th...

Until Doncaster took it off us in 1997/8, this was the record for the most losses in a season in EFL/Premier League history.

Carlisle are just fighting for runner's up spot at best...

Hopefully not, but I wouldn’t put a massive amount of money on us picking up more than 7 points from the 18 games.

Anyone still believe we’re not the worst team in the league?

As I’ve said previous, I’m not confident this team will even surpass Forest Green’s effort of last season.

Yes. We are far worse. Playing 16 year olds to try and keep the scores down against the cannon fodder… which largely means we are equally if not worse than cannon fodder.

After today I’ve changed my vote.

Well we’re the last team to lose to then bottom Carlisle and now in humiliating fashion against bottom going into the day Fleetwood who hadn’t won in ages. Think that might not be a good sign.

And Burton in September and Cheltenham in October. We’ve lost to four sides in 24th this season. It’s a disgrace.

After today I'm starting to think that Simpson may have to go along with his staff.

A whole new management and backroom team is needed who will make us better for this level because right now almost every other team are playing us off the park!

We'll be shit next season in L2 as well at this rate, everyone's heads are down.

Usually it's us who gift teams their first win in ages.
I would say thanks for letting Fleetwood have theirs before we play them on Tuesday, but that's probably given them some confidence now!

Oddly Blackpool, Oxford, you at home, Reading, Wigan, Exeter, Charlton and Northampton so a bit of a mixed bag… a month ago we walloped Blackpool and looked decent… 4 games on though we’ve barely laid a glove bar Charlton.

He turned water into wine when he first came in. We had a bottom 6 budget in league 2 and we got promoted, somehow. That’s a miracle after the season before.

Now this season we came in completely unprepared, with owners that didn’t want promotion. We did our summer recruitment with the lowest budget in the league, probably a bottom half league 2 budget.

Yes we have a bigger budget now since the takeover, but as I’ve said many times it’s a tall order for a few new signings to come in and turn the worst team in the league into a playoff/promotion standard team for the remaining 16 games (that’s what we’d need to stay up). I said we’d need a whole new 1-11 to stand a chance, and even that would probably not be enough given the time they’d need to gel. That said I still think despite all the above we have still underperformed, so that’s on Simpson.

But I don’t think Simpson should go. It’s been shite yeah but there are circumstances that have severely handicapped him.
We ARE going down, and in league 2 I’d want no one else other than a 2 time promotion winner.

However I do expect to see some signs of improvement before the season is out. If it continues to get worse then I may reconsider.

It's a tough one when you put all of that into account, but I just can't accept such poor performances every week where there is no fight in our team, they just give up as soon as we concede and this poor morale will likely extend into next season too.

How he still has Skelton as his assistant is unbelievable, he needs new and better staff to come in quickly and get shot of the deadwood.
