We've had a few at City. Styver as mentioned previously but also Tony Dinning stands out. He came on loan from Port Vale around 2005 I think and was brilliant, we then signed him on a free and he was awful from then on.

David Partridge, Grant Smith and Gerard Lavin all spring to mind to.

Veliche Shumilikoski. Whoooo? Exactly!

Paid about a million quid for him (The Macedonian Gerrard....they said) Hmmm.

Not only was he fucking dog runs, but Alan Irvine chose him over Charlie Adam, who we turned down and could have signed for £500k. That seals the deal for me.
Really? I'm sure we paid less than that and I doubt his value increased when he was at Ipswich. Don't remember him being as awful as you guys clearly do though.

Maybe slightly less. £750-£1m seems to be the general consensus amongst our fans.

It was definitely a decent wedge more than the £500k we were quoted for Adam though.

Shocking behaviour by Father Ted.

 The sad truth is he's probably only about our 34th worst signing.

Emerse Fae. We paid 2.5 million for him in 2007 and he made 8 appearances.

The curse of the £2.5m. We've now paid £2.5m for four players, which is also our record transfer expenditure, none of which have lasted at the club longer than 14 months.

Emerse Fae joined Nice 10 months after joining.
Greg Halford joined Sunderland 6 months after joining.
Adrian Mariappa joined Crystal Palace 14 months after joining.
Matej Vydra will go back to Watford at the end of his 10 month loan.

And only Mariappa was really worth the fee we paid. And we barely made any profit on his sale anyway!

£5.5m on David Dunn, never lived up to the hype. Lazy and injury prone.

Luciano Figueroa… £2.5m, only made the one substitute appearance before he was sent packing to Mexico. Freely scored at every other club he has been at, including the Argentine national team.

Far away from being the worst player we have had, Alexander Hleb was another massive let-down.

You've paid 2.5 million to have Vydra on loan?
Yep...

We spent most of our Summer budget on a player we'll only have for a season.

If we pay an extra £8m we can make it permanent too...

Tried to forget about him. Only thing i can remember him doing for us was giving a penalty away at Spurs. Cant have played more than a couple of times for us.

I also add John Halls to my list as well. Shocking player.

Yeah I think that's it.

No wait, he was the one that got cropped straight away and never played again wasn't he? Or maybe it's the same guy and I'm getting mixed up

Velicka got crocked 5 minutes into his debut on loan from Rangers, you might be thinking of him.

And the player you were originally thinking of must've been Styvar. He was a striker and he scored quite a lot (in the Slovakian league ) but apparently he also played as a full back (which would maybe explain 4 goals in 50 games at his previous club). He scored a hat trick against Exeter reserves in a behind closed doors game which basically sealed the deal to sign him. Needless to say he was horribly out of his depth in the Championship! Poor bastard only got 10 games though.

Liam Dickinson 750k from Stockport. So bad in training, we sent him straight out on loan.
An obvious one for us too. You at least managed to recoup about half of that as we were stupid enough to pay £300k for him, which was a lot for us at the time, joint transfer record in fact.

Went and blew that out of the water a couple years later though with the signing of Mackail-Smith for £2.5m (there's the curse again), having inexplicably let Glenn Murray run down his contract. Bloody hell that was terrible business all round. Never has a player been less suited to a style of play than Macca was with Poyet's patient, possession game. The whole thing was just a bafflingly expensive waste of everyone's time. Not helped by the injuries of course in his last couple of years, but still, a flop that the club will take some years to live down.

Oh and you forgot the man who never played, Luke.

Going back a few years, Mikkel Beck was by far the worst pre-2007. Had to be for us to send him out on loan to Forest

Won't have a bad word said about mikkel beck.

Pretty much anyone strachan signed for us. The combined transfer fees plus wages for Scott McDonald, kris Boyd, Kevin Thompson and Stephen McManus must be staggering. All for fairly terrible players, 2 of which, Boyd and Thompson, struggled to move.

We've had far worse players than emnes and digard, however southgate spending our summer budget on them two when they were unheard of the year we went down was ridiculously bad business.

Alves for £12m obviously not the best, but don't think we did ourselves any favours with him as he looked decent at first.

Stephen Elliot was garbage but Matt Hill was absolutely brilliant for us.

Ebanks-Blake was ok in the brief cameos he made for us in fairness.
