I have a York supporting mate at Uni and he's said that Wilcox has played Femi at centre half before, which, as any Daggers fan can tell you, is not a good idea.

Wilcox did many, many things. There's a lot of fire being shot at McNamara, but if we're relegated it's primarily down to Wilcox, any manager would be left with a massive job sorting our mess out.

The problem with Barnet imo is the complete lack of anything creative centrally. Probably the most anti footballing side in the league, Akinde/ Gash as battering rams, supported by the odd Batt cameo and super Muggleton... Get in a bit of creativity in the middle, I think they'd be solid mid table at least.
Its bloody frustrating having two 18 year olds out on loan with more creativity in their little fingers than the rest of the squad. Meanwhile Allen relies on effort and strength which leads to the better sides running rings around us.
We are down to 15 fit senior players available (technically 12 if you take away lisbie, batt and muggleton) so either the kids get a chance or we get some loanees fast. Either way I'm currently pretty pessimistic and expect us to close in on the relegation battle over the next couple of months

A York supporting fan at University in East Anglia? Jesus, makes me feel a bit better being at Greenwich! But he wasn't actually atrocious at centre half. He wasn't good either, but it wasn't the unmitigated disaster we thought it could be.

Yeovil and Newport for me with brief flirtations from Barnet at the end of January. Not an easy month!

Surprised that Yeovil are candidates considering that they were in the Championship a few years ago.

They're fucking shit so I'm not surprised. Gone horribly wrong for them although Zoko could be a saviour for yet another team.

it will probably be the quickest collapse I can remember without a club going bust.

I know Stockport is the biggest drop I can remember without going bust, but that decline has taken abit more time, Bradford I remember collapsed, but not sure how long it took them to go from Prem to L2 but again think it took abit of time.

but as it stands they have a very strong chance, the bottom 3 have been well below standard of rest of league this season, usually it'll mean 2 of them 3 will go with a very poor points total.

Don't discount us. We're definitely in with a great shout of relegation.

Grimsby made quite a good fist of dropping through the leagues, a (what is now) Champ side since 1991, brief drop into L1 in 97/98 but then straight back up...then relegated in 2003 to L1, then straight through to L2 the following season - got stuck in the basement division then into the conf in 2010.

yep Grimsby also a good shout, its terrible to say but they seem to have been struggling for so long I forget the days when they were a comfortable championship team.

same with Port Vale, was that era in 90's with afew sides used to be about Championship without a drastic amount of money and smaller gates, Oldham, Gillingham, Crewe, Grimsby, Stockport, Rotherham, Port Vale, Southend

Given that we could potentially lose FGR and Torquay this season, I'd not be keen to see Yeovil come down!

Someone local, please. After Grimsby, I think our next closest game is Macclesfield and we also have a tour of the south coast this season with Torquay, Eastleigh and Dover!

I don't know if you could really call Yeovil a massive decline, they were punching above their weight in League One. They would become the first team to drop from the 2nd tier to non-league in 3 straight seasons though - only Stockport and Tranmere have managed 2 in a row. They are both much bigger and surprising declines - nobody can touch Stockport though now in their third season at the 6th level of English football and looking good for a fourth. From playing in the 2nd tier in 2001/02 to 6th tier in 12 seasons.

agree with you on their size, but its still one hell of a drop

its amazing when you get on that decline how bloody hard it is to turn about unless your willing to risk abit of spending, even then it doesn't always work.

Think with Sheradin leaving Newport if they don't appoint quickly and to be more precise the right person they will be sucked in and may not get out. Bad time to lose a manager.

Even with Sheridan it hasn't been amazing recently, only one win in their last nine league games

This is a right kick in the bollocks. JS' assistant Warren Feeney is taking the helm until the end of the season. A big gamble although I gather he was always gonna take over from JS next season. JS was on some sort of rolling contract so no compo payable but there was little other chance of us getting him back in October if we had a restrictive release clause in his contract. Recent form hasn't been great but felt we would stay up with JS in charge. Survival may depend on us being able to reinforce the squad this month if Peterboro sell Washington as we have a 20% sell on fee. Couple of big games coming up v York and D&R.

Yeovil's philopsophy was always built around loanees, it was always going to be a case of shit hitting the fan eventually. They had some bloody great players, year after year, but could never keep them or sell them to invest. Championship was a huge achievement but their insistence upon rebuilding the squad every 12 months didn't help re: their downfall.

They've had some tough games though. Since playing us: Northampton, Accrington away, Oxford away, Notts away, Barnet away, Plymouth. The only disappointments or unexpected results in that were draws at home to Wimbledon and Yeovil.

Things looking perilous for York now, definitely. I live on Bootham Crescent, there seems an air of resignation and acceptance about the place.

Don't see a lot of quality in that squad.

If we play like we do yesterday all season we'll end up mid table comfortably. Newport away next week is big

I don't care what anyone says, we're 100% in this. We're a madhouse at the moment.

We've basically had half a decent season since we got back in the league, all the rest of the time we've struggled. It looks it could be our turn to drop as you feel that of the three worst sides Daggers will have enough to pull clear, which leaves us and Yeovil. Grim times, but we weren't nearly good enough to get a result, never mind a win, at home against a bog awful Newport side. That tells you all you need to know I think.

20 (yes, twenty) points clear currently. I think not.

I'd usually have said not, but then always remember that York side which collapsed from a solid position in January and never nearly took another point.

I suppose an argument against is that season the bottom sides en masse which I do not see currently in Daggers, Yeovil or York.

There's very little chance of Orient getting sucked into this. Everyone from Luton up will be fine - even saying that I imagine Barnet will survive having accumulated so many points at this stage already, plus their home form is pretty good which will keep them fairly comfortably above what is looking like a rather low waterline.

Goes without saying that at least one of us, York and Yeovil WILL be dropping, have no doubts about that - at the moment I'd have my money on York. Picked up a bit recently, but not consistently enough, and with us and Newport stabilising somewhat with new managers with a nous (alright, Newport have Feeney now, but he'll be carrying on Sheridan's work in the short term at least), we look in far healthier positions. Essentially what we need to do is sort out the home form, something which is easier said than done! What we don't want to be doing is leaving this until the last month or so of the season because having looked at our run in, it looks pretty difficult. Rovers, Orient, Plymouth, Oxford and Portsmouth all in that last month I believe, so if we're still needing points and playing catchup at that stage, I will be worried.

I'll be interested to keep an eye on Yeovil mind, they've tried the hardened old school non-league manager with Sturrock and it didn't work, so Darren Way looks like a complete opposite from the outside looking in and not knowing too much. I'd suggest from recent history, that it's not the sort of appointment that gets you out of the shit (see Hargreaves at Torquay), still, you never know ;)

Having seen you on Saturday, I'm sure you'll be fine.
