So as the season is drawing to an exciting conclusion, I was wondering who would make it into your own team of the year.

I await the standard how can you have player x in there and not player y who has been excellent for us this season. Well I see most players live twice a season at best so going by what I have seen at games against us and on the FLS.

Mine would look something like this:

GK: Luke Mccormick. Clearly too good for league 2, seemingly destined to stay at Plymouth for the rest of his career however. Christy Pym with an honorable mention as he was excellent against us at Sixfields also.
RB: Christian Ribiero. Like what I have seen previously, Exeter fans always rave about him also. Honestly think this spot will be Brendan Maloneys next season.
CB: Aaron Pierre. He was a beast against us last season and seems to have carried that forward. Helped keep Wycombe towards the top.
CB: Curtis Nelson: I always think of Plymouth as winning games with a boring 1-0 (other than when they beat us), looks a good player.
LB: Joe Jacobson. Shocked Shrews let him go, always rated him. Good left boot on him, definitely league 1 quality. Ben Coker unlucky here.
RM: Lawson D'ath. I couldnt really think of anyone to go here so stuck Lawson in. Picked up from Reading after being released. 8 goals in his first pro season, a real prospect and fantastic attitude, didnt have an agent, didnt ask how much he would get, only if he would play.
CM: Ryan Woods. Class act, clearly going to be playing at a higher level sooner rather than later, with Shrewsbury or not I dont know.
CM: Nathan Doyle. Again struggled with this one, I have always rated Doyle and he always battered us with Bradford, but he has missed a lot of games this season, happy to be swayed elsewhere with this pick.
LM: Danny Mayor. Looked quality both games against us this season, part of a Bury team that has me convinced if they dont get automatic promotion it has been a poor season with their squad.
CAM: Jed Wallace. Clearly too good for League 2, been excellent for Pompey, expecting him to go to the Championship in the Summer.
ST: Marc Richards. Has missed a lot of games through injury ( same as Doyle in this case) however scoring 17 in 25 really is excellent. His general play has been oustanding this season and has been a real blow losing him over the last few weeks.

So who would you put in and why?

If this was for a 1 time game and assuming no injuries then I think Troy would be pushing for a place. None others from our end unfortunately.

I'm not very clued up as to who is good enough for a place in this. Not many players have really impressed me against us this season either.

Ones that stand out were Grimes for Exeter back in September, That Leonard for Southend and I want to say Whelpdale (Stevenage) and Whalley (Luton) for there performances against us but they were up against a Lee Beevers who was being played at left back when he's meant to be a right back...

When he first signed, we went on a long unbeaten run. When he got injured, we can't buy a win. I very much doubt he'll sign a new contract - he'll be picked up by an upper L1 club. Him and Jonathan Smith, one of, if not the best central midfield partnerships in the league.

Also a shout out for Luke Wilkinson, until recently. Hope you didn't watch last nights game though; he had a horror show.

I'll have a think about this later. Jamie Cureton should definitely be in it though. What a man.

One more for Jamie Cureton here. By far the best player on the pitch when Daggers played us at Bootham. Scored both goals and ran the entire show. Haven't seen a stand-out performance like that from anyone else.

The two stand out players that I have seen this season are Cureton (D&R) and Cameron (Bury).

The Wycombe goalie, Ingram looks decent as well

Cameron could be a good shout actually, has had a very good season. Burton fans who have been your outstanding players this season? I didnt include any initially in my team of the year which seems odd considering your top!

Mousinho at CB (not CM - he's only played a couple of games there) and also captain. Also Beavon up front - he hasn't scored a lot of goals, but he has the most assists in the league: http://www.teamtalk.com/league-two/top-assists

Matty Palmer has also been very good - he will eventually end up in a higher league, hopefully making us a nice sum along the way.

The Newport RB (I think he was the RB, could have been the LB as I can't remember whether I noticed him first-half or second-half - guy with the long throw) caught my eye the other week. Wanted to dislike him intensely for wearing coloured boots as a FB, but he was a very tidy player.

James Shea has gotta be in with a shout for keeper imo.

It may sound daft, but I'd say Owain fon Williams is in with a great shout for goalkeeper too. He makes one brilliant save a game at least. Danny Holmes as a right back if you are struggling for one would be a solid choice.

That's Ryan Jackson. When he's on his game, he's very, very good. Shame about the boots though, I agree :bg:

Paris Cowan-Hall (while he was still at Wycombe) impressed me, as did Lawson D'Ath (Northampton) and Scott Griffiths (Luton) when I saw them.

Obviously harder to judge this as we only see games we have been too as teams not on TV every week. Going by what I have seen of players this season, this is what I would go with.

Sam Saunders would 100% be in there had he been here longer than a couple months. He's a terrific player.

I don't think Power would make the team, he's been terrible against us both games and hasn't played well for a while it seems. There's a good few centre mids better than him in the league i'd say, our lad Dempsey would give him a run for his money for starters.

Marcus Holness and Adam Dugdale both at centre half from us. We'll win the Premiership with this team...

Max has been hit and miss this season, had a purple patch just before Christmas, but has been bang average the rest of the time. Fonners is worth a shout as keeper though, especially considering what's been front of him.

I don't know whether I would put Francomb in it. He has been solid but not spectacular. One of the best crossers in the league though.

Our Matt Grimes would have been an absolute obvious pick for centre mid for this one. 4 goals, 3 of them free kicks and half a dozen assists. Ran the show in midfield every match and really started to dominate technically in there. Obviously, that led to England U20 recognition and unsurprisingly he left just a few days into the January transfer window to Swansea for £1.75mill.

Players who have impressed me when watching (not saying they should be in the TOTY) are:
Whatmough (Portsmouth), Woods (Shrewsbury) and Hussey (Bury).
Can't be sure how those have performed on a regular basis but I know Woods has been getting a lot of attention throughout the season so I can assume that how he played against us was no fluke.

If I had to try and put something together it would probably look something like this:

Leutwiler
Riberio, Goldson, Pierre, Jacobson
Wallace, Woods, Doyle, Mayor
Richards, Tubbs

Subs: Ingham, Mousinho, Cameron, Leonard, D'ath, Collins, Cureton.

It'shard to gauge from the odd live game and a few highlights.

I'd agree with Woods of Shrewsbury and Marc Richards. Best keeper Joe Day of Newport, Lucas Akins and Mark Cullen both played well against us.

No Rovers player comes close in my view.

The first player on my team sheet would be Jamie Cureton, followed by Danny Mayor. Don't know about the rest.

Like I said - going on what I've seen. If you're picking the "dream team" then mine would be different but you're not you're picking team of the year which is judged on performances. Francomb was excellent at KR right at start of season, Power was superb down here for Tranmere. Dempsey at Carlisle had less than no effect on either game we played against them so that's why he's not in there.

I don't know how accurate that assists table but I can't believe Wallace wouldn't be in it, he had something 4 assists in the 6-2 at Cambridge, got an assist vs Luton in the last few weeks so they must have missed him out.

http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/team/player-profile/jed-wallace/8 Says on your website that he only has 5 assists in his 37 league appearances this season, as well as 11 goals, so the chart is probably right.

Really?!? He's one of the worst players i've ever seen at Yeovil. He was so bad at the start of this season that he couldn't even get into our team and we have our worst squad in 20 years. There were no tears from anyone when he was shipped out.

I wondered how long it would be before GJ was mentioned. About half a sentence as it happens.

Funnily enough Johnson is the opposite of Maloney, shit for you but superb for us. Shame the way it ended but he's still the best manager we've ever had.
