And you can't quite see the link why teams are crap on it that don't play/train on it every single day?
All I'm going to say is that on Home form we'd be 3rd bottom, whilst on Away form we'd be 6th.

Guiseley played well in the first half and had at least one glorious chance to score. Second 45, we were camped out mainly in their half, hit the bar via a deflection, keeper makes several good saves, shots blocked near the line, endless pressure and some bad misses from us. Still think we have a very good chance of going through if we play like we did second half, if we turn up how we started, we will lose.

Still don't seem to have got back to firing on all cylinders over the last 4-5 games, got a few injury niggles and continuity hasn't helped. Still I imagine the Cowleys will sort that out, we will be adding and strengthening to the squad and statistically the Cowleys do better in the second half of the season so we will take 3rd and still in the hat for the next round.

We, despite training and playing on 3G last season, had a better on grass. Frankly if you can't play well on our surface which is designed and setup for good Football, then it's your own fault. Or prepare better.

Our surface didn't negatively impact Solihull or Braintree, odd that

Your surface is set up for all weather football and revenue. It's nothing like a slick grass pitch. It doesn't bounce the same, it doesn't roll the same. How anyone can argue it is anything like a good grass pitch is beyond me.

Yes i saw how impressive you were at prenton park, you parked the bus but left the bus doors open i seem to remember
And we've not set up defensively since - lessons were learned and we've lost one game since then.
However bad we were in that game, Tranmere were worse yesterday, and I doubt our defence will have an easier ride all season. So going back to the original point, Mellon will have to change Tranmere's mentality and tactics completely, and do it quickly.

Oh, hang on - Sutton have an artificial pitch??? Why has no one mentioned this before?

That's a fair assessment Luke, given our early season capitulations we are slowly growing in confidence which as we all know makes a huge difference to performance. We clearly set out not to lose that game but did manage to create ourselves which is another step forwards compared to the Tranmere away game where we only had one half chance in the whole game.
Read had a good game and really should have scored, thankfully his aim was off yesterday. I did laugh at him standing in front of our keeper blocking his view as we set up for your free kick just outside the box. He wasn't quick enough to retreat and the liner flagged him offside as soon as the kick was taken. It would have been funnier still if the ball had gone in the net!
Harry Anderson obviously has quality but seemed determined to have niggle fight all game with our Alex Purver rather than concentrate on his game. Perhaps born of frustration?
Looking forward to Tuesday and hoping we have some energy left in the tank.

Burgess Hill were atrocious. Easy as you like.

Bizarrely we were allowed to drink whilst watching the game but only in a specific corner of the ground, which is FA rules according to the steward.

Having over a year of Football on it I can confidently say it plays better than most grass pitches (it helps that we water it pre kickoff and at halftime). Please note I said most grass pitches. There is such a variable in the quality of pitches at this level that you can't in all seriousness and honesty say they play the same. To suggest otherwise is crass dishonesty IMO. Perhaps only in the Premier League where most pitches have artificial blades in the pitch.

No they don't all play the same, but I would honestly say the variances in them all are lesser than the difference in artificial. Bored of this now, the rules are wrong, let's just leave it at that.

Indeed I'm also bored of the moaning about 3G pitches. They're 1) here to stay and 2) the future. To suggest they're 'wrong' is both silly and sad.

If a team is any good the surface they play on shouldn't be much of a hindrance

I joked to one of your supporters on the way out that I blamed the pitch but don't think it was a factor. Maybe a couple of slightly odd bounces but tbh perhaps no more than any other game where you just don't notice the same.

Good win that, fair play. I was wrong for once.

I'm genuinely still pissed off.

A word here about these synthetic pitches, they have one at Harrogate. Last time we played on one was in Unibond North at Woodley Sports and Durham, in 2010. We had all the propoganda then about, "no different to grass", "all the old failings have been solved" etc only to see the ball bouncing out of the ground on every goal kick and a pass along the ground only coming to rest when it hit something solid. That was only 6 years ago, so i was sceptical to say the least to hear the same assurances about the new generation of pitches. What a surprise! The ball behaved exactly as expected on a grass pitch, to the extent that 5 minutes in I'd already forgotten it wasn't real grass. I have seen the future and it works. :bdick:

Also, can Harrogate's fan tell me why there was a banner at the home end that said "Harrogate Town's Blue Army"?
Did anyone know we Yorkshire folk are sectarian, or at least those who live in Harrogate are? Apparently North Yorkshire hates West Yorkshire. We didn't even know Harrogate was in North Yorkshire. Then again, we don't think much about Harrogate at all. Their team has as much punch as one of those cream scones they serve in Bettys Tea Shop.:fl:

Don't get it, where's Harrogate's fan tonight? :bdick:

Ah bless, worrying about where I was on a Saturday night.

To be fair I was trying to forget the abject shower of shite. Thought you lot pressed well and showed far more desire and cohesion as a team. We were abject, not a shot on target and our best creative influence playing out of position as a lone striker for 40 mins despite having 2 forwards on the bench. Tin pot performance on the pitch and off it for you guys with portaloos.

Many of your lot were saying it was the performance of the season, good luck with that then as it was a pretty poor match, just glad I got to see Tommy freak boy Denton get on the pitch.

And seems we have the same problem as at the Shay - with away fans the 600 in your case appearing to be selective mutes apart from a short burst of song post your first goal. Good job your teenage asbo cast of Kes the Stage show put on a good performance for us. Heard far more noise from 50 Curzon fans.

Maybe you were all taken aback by the pitch, new stands and the turnout from our lot. The 3g is particularly nice with some rain on it, less so when hot. More tin pot however was the attendance announced. apparently only 40% of our total capacity! Put it more at 2750.

Don't know owt about the HG Blue but done a few Ibrox visits myself and a quite a few Gers round town but not seen that flag before.

Hope you enjoyed your city break.

How's Sutton's away record relevant to their 'advantage' of playing on 3G?

The only debate is whether away teams at Sutton would fare better if the pitch was grass. Which is pretty much impossible to determine.

Should have lost, dreadful second half performance after playing half decent first half.

Was pleased in the end to hang on for a replay.

Stamford is aBfor their level and a lovely town as well, enjoyable visit.

They only opened it last season.

Just got back from Barrow and have to say thats the worst i've seen Tranmere play in an away game since we've been in non league. Looked like a pub team all afternoon and it took untill 16:45 pm for Tranmere to get their first shot away. Gutted to be out of the FA cup.
The playing side to Tranmere Rovers needs sorting out fast, otherwise we can wave goodbye to the play offs.
Agree with all of that, absolute shambles. Even the highly impressive own goal didn't it make it worthwhile going. I understand we have a few players out, but that's still no excuse for shite tactics - it was obvious from the first few minutes that Cook wasn't going to win a header, but we kept hoofing it to him all game...

But surely it doesn't matter what surface FC Halifax play on as the ball is 20 feet in the air for 90% of your games isn't it?

So you're saying there were over 2000 Harrogate fans there? Where some of them disguised as Halifax fans? Or trees? We could have got that whole crowd on one of our end terraces. Yeah we were pretty quiet, but then it was your cup final, not ours. :bdick:

Most of the Harrogate fans there were army lads who to be fair to them made great noise. But there was definitely 800-850 shaymen there as we filled up the stand that went the whole end of the pitch. Plus some town fans got turned away because there was too many! Bit of a poor do really from Harrogate
