That's probably a fair assessment looking in from the outside, but I can assure you that our slowing down was more down to circumstance than resting on what we had. Our roster was large and we were being very selective in who we bought. Perhaps too selective, which may well have been the drawback of knowing exactly how good a buy each character was, as it meant that we were just looking for the best buys, rather than keeping our roster topped up. Plus, at the time where we were leading, our roster was getting fucking huge and reaching its limit anyway.
The only two great offers we got late on that were really worth considering were Superman (who got thrown away by Natch, in what I can confidently say was his only misstep of the entire game!) and then Sauron who we never really got to use properly as his power is used when he dies, which he didn't do until the end.
Dave just mentioning it reminds me to say, yeah, those fucking weapons! We got none, you guys got 4, and they're so useful. They're lesser versions of Gary/Ash, but unlike those guys they can't be killed and are hard to remove. I'd probably look to make them limited use in future...
We only had 4 weapons towards the end mind you. For most of the game, we had nothing until Gimli died 3 quarters of the way through and we got his axe. Then we got the Combat MG and Blades of Chaos etc right at the end pretty much.
It was NK who were a pain with weapons, plus they had Hagrid who could always boost his BR.
