I'm in Liverpool tomorrow so will be scouting about for any favourable looking pubs.

Ship & Mitre is on the list but after that I'll be in new territory.

Now I live in town I'm a 10 minute walk from the Ship & Mitre. This is a very good development in my life.

Anyone have recommendations in Altrincham (Alty)? Also should the game be called off, is there anywhere worth checking out in central Manchester?

Just back to work from the pub after a couple of pints of the guest ale.

It was VPA from the Portobello brewery based in London (of course), never heard of them before but really enjoyed the drink. Have any of you more seasoned ale drinkers tried any of their stuff? I wouldn't mind trying some of their other beers.

The new Guinness Dublin Porter is really good. I'm a big fan of Sainsbury's Taste The Difference London Porter too.

Dublin Porter was 3 for £5 in Tesco so grabbed some of that today, looking forward to it.

Best bets in Altrincham are Costello's Bar in Goose Green and the Old Market Tavern on Old Market Place. The former is a nice little pub and is the Dunham Massey Brewery Tap. The latter isn't owt special in terms of decor but always has loads of ales in good nick. Phoenix beers seem to turn up quite regularly.

Manchester has fuckloads of great pubs. Knott Bar, Marble Arch and Port Street Beer House are probably my favourites based on last visits. But there are about 15 others worth a visit.

Never had VPA but I like Star, which is an amber ale. Decent brewery, I think.

I can see this 300 beer book is gonna ruin my life.

I'm also going to be THAT dickhead now who scans the ales on tap, then spends 5 mins flicking through his phone to see which ones are on the list.

Sorry Dessy.

EDIT: Upside is that my local Sainsburys, Asda and Waitrose all seem to have updated their stocks so I've got a load more to try.

I struck Exmoor Gold off my list last week, didn't think much to it, really. I think that may have been how the pub was keeping it though as it smelt strange. They're usually good so I'll forgive them.

Did particularly enjoy a pint of Hunter's Blackjack. I'm a big fan of Hunter's. Full Bore is one of my absolute favourites, though at 8%, I don't have many.

Did enjoy the Dublin Porter last night. Not the strongest tasting porter I've ever had been it was very, very drinkable and I'm looking forward to having some more of it.

Struck Duvel and Franziskaner off the list yesterday. Both quite similar, pale, lager-ish and fruity.

Ooh, I'm unfamiliar with that Thornbridge IPA and the Brewdog. Good?

Had the Chiron before (as with all their offerings that I've tried, I approve). Wish you saw their beers on draught more darn sarf. Only ever seen Jaipur on at a couple of establishments...

The IPA was a solid beer. I preferred the Chiron but it was still good.

The Brewdog will find its way into their official range in due course, apparently. I really liked it. One of their best beers IMO. 5am Saint remains my favourite but this wasn't far behind.

New forum, new era.

I sincerely hope you're a Yorkie full of bitter in Krazyhouse right now.
Close. I managed to end up in Popworld like a true champ.
For the record, wasn't mad about the beers I had last night. Obviously that's the way it goes when beers are on rotation and you haven't had any of them, or even the breweries before. Oh well, next time I'll choose better!

My local Wetherspoons seems to be on an American kick at the moment, so I struck Brooklyn Lager off the list. It's very flavoursome for a lager and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also tried Rogue American Amber Ale as I thought it was another one from my book, ended up having two bottles, but it turned out to be Rogue Imperial Stout which is in the book. Also had another Dublin Porter which was very drinkable, even after a skinful.

Trying Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier tonight (glad I've still got the bottle in front of me for that one). It's an odd one, a "cloudy wheat beer", a quite sweet taste to it.

30 down, 270 to go. Got another 2 on the shelf, and another 13 in the local supermarkets before I have to resort to ordering them online.
