Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
It's maggots like you who vote for the tories and Blair labour that have given the press barons the power they have in the first place. I swear people like you are incapable of thought.

I've never voted Tory or Labour in my life. You didn't actually address the comment though.

So, we will have our first Female Prime Minister since Thatcher as May and Leadsom are the final 2 runners in the leadership race.

Hahah, fuck off Gove you dirty horrible back stabbing little fucker. God what a truly awful man he is, glad he didn't even get close to winning. Looks like him stabbing Boris in the back backfired on him, not that I have any sympathy for Boris, they deserve each other.

May's got this in the bag, I don't see the party members giving Leadsom much support. Well I hope not anyway.

Address what? You made a nonsensical comment that had the sole intention of trying to score some petty 'win' on an internet forum, a maggot fishing for likes is nice irony. Ze barons you speak of have dictated politics and subsequently the world as you know it for decades, so yeah, I'm sorry to break it to ya but it's the way of the world. Quite why you've got your knickers in a twist over an objective comment is unfathomable to me.

It's so nice to see you advocating that kinder, gentler politics Jeremy Corbyn has been advocating for.

I asked you five time in the other thread to clarify what a Blairite was. You had no idea then, and you have no idea now. I have been a member of the Labour Party since April 2010. Before that I was a member of the Lib Dems. I have never actually commented on Tony Blair on this forum, ever, as far as I can recall. But go ahead and call everyone you disagree with a conservative or a Blairite. That's sure to get things done. Make sure to continue to personally insult people as well - it reflects so well on the left.

As for the topic at hand, it does seem worth remembering that both of the candidates are, y'know, Tories. People who are shocked that one of them likes fox hunting and the other one sent vans round telling people to Go Home are being very naive. May has been playing divisive politics for years. But Leadsom would be far worse, and is backed by Nigel Farage and Nick Griffin. Whatever you think of the Cameron wing of the Tories, they're not *quite* as bad as the Iain Duncan Smith wing of the Tories.

The identity politics already flying around with two women Tory candidates challenging for top job, after so many liberals went for Thatcher way back when for merit of her sex, is execrable. Predictable as owt, but gag me with a spoon. Vapidity knows no bounds. Feels like that's literally all the Tory party have to do for people to baselessly cheerlead them for another 4+ years.

Loving Leadsom's owd blog, too:

I read it as a piss take - a nod towards the idea that we should 'no longer listen to experts' and that facts are a load of rubbish.

The state of it all..

Some people seem to think this means Michael Gove will come back in.

If Portugal hadn't come out for the second half last night, Wales wouldn't have finished the game for them.

Ha, yeah I don't see a way back for Gove. Does this mean that May wins by default then?

Also, does it have an effect on the whole EU thing - now that ALL of the major Leave campaigners have sacked it off?

No, May's already repeated today that "Brexit means Brexit".

Which is absolutely the right thing to do.

I'm really surprised at how smoothly the party have recovered post Brexit. Given how divided they are over this issue, from both grassroots support to MPs, I think they'll all rally around May now. Roll on Thatcher 2.0! :shifty:

It's amazing ain't it!? We were repeatedly told than it was a win-win for labour as they wont be divided yet the Tories will be in disarray. Hmmmm, turned out well didn't it...

Something doesn't seem quite right about a one-horse race to become the next PM.

Mere weeks after the nation voted to end the tyranny of being governed by the unelected, we get a PM who wasn't even elected by her party.

Just less than half of Maidstone have spoken.

From the Tories point of view, May has a foot in both more liberal and the righter wing sides of the party so she's an ideal person to keep the post Brexit repairs going for them. Leadsom would have sent the party into a tailspin fighting itself all over again, because frankly she's a nutter who is totally unsuitable for the job.

Just need Labour to sort their shit out as well, either backing or replacing Corbyn, and then we might have two coherent political parties to lead the country again. For a couple years perhaps.

Yeah, ignore the fact you vote for a party and not a PM. In any case, this "tyranny of the unelected" will only last four years, that compared to a lifetime dictatorship of a United States of Europe, not much of a sacrifice in the grand scheme of things.

It's the same arguments as Gordon Brown all over again isn't it.

May would most certainly be accountable, as Brown was, as there will be a general election in due course. Quite likely to be sooner than the full term, it would seem.
