Welcome Alun Armstrong to Darlington.

Decent appointment for us.
That’s a great appointment.
Just wondering what Darlo fans think to pinching another teams manager that is under contract, personally don’t give a fuck and great bit of business by you but isn’t the same as York appointing Martin Gray.

No, not at all. We haven't pinched him, we have not head hunted him - the vacancy was advertised and we have only considered applicants, of which Armstong was one (and Bower another)

Gray resigned his Darlo post and was appointed by York the very next day, nicely skirting around the compensation issue. Seems to me that he was head hunted.

Our selection was done properly, Armstrong hasn't resigned and we're trying to work out compensation.

What was wrong regarding Gray/York was the fact that Gray resigned knowing he had the York offer, instead of waiting for York to contact us and tell us that they wanted to appoint him.

Chalk and cheese

David Powell, Chester fan and sports correspondent for local newspaper the Chester Chronicle has drawn up his Conference North team of the season having been to all of Chester's 42 league games last season. They are:

GK Tony Breedon (Leamington FC)
RB Sam Minihan (Stockport County)
LB Adam Blakeman (Chorley FC)
CB Gaz Dean (Brackley Town)
CB Andy Teague (Chorley FC)
LW Ollie Crankshaw (Curzon Ashton)
CM Shane Byrne (Brackley Town)
CM Jamie Chandler (Spennymoor Town)
RW John Johnson (Altrincham FC)
ST Glen Taylor (Spennymoor Town)
ST Jordan Hulme (Altrincham FC)

Subs
GK Matt Urwin (Chorley FC)
DF Ash Palmer (Stockport County)
MF Gary Stopforth (Chester FC)
ST Matt Warburton (Stockport County)
ST Daniel Udoh (Telford Utd)

Any comments?

Jordan Hulme was a class above anything else I saw last season. He tore us to absolute bits and ran us all over the shop.

He's signed a new deal with Alty according to Deva Chat.

I was somewhat surprised when Salford City released him, after he followed joint-managers Johnson/Morley from Ramsbottom United when the pair took over at Moor Lane. He's a decent player.

Alun Armstrong seems to apply for most jobs, definitely in the running for Pools the last three times we've needed one, obviously can't wait to get shot of Blyth!

I need a notepad, one or two caught my eye on my travels last season.
Seriously, Tony Breedon wasn't he the goalie that alarmingly came running out of his area for no apparent reason down at Leamington? Darlo fan's.

He can't be happy watching his players jump ship. Sean Reid gone to Morpeth, and fan's favourite Kieran Green going to York. That must make his piss boil.

His piss will cool down a bit when several more Blyth players jump ship, but to join him on his new vessel.

Hereford should be a force next season with their £700k budget.

Just don't see the point in spending that sort of money at this level, even if you have it. Wouldn't surprise me if Spennymoor's budget is at that sort of level as well, their chairman reckons their turnover will exceed £1 million this year!

A £1 million pound turnover is quite impressive for a club that averages well under 1,000.

I appreciate this is only your opinion, but I'm very surprised that no County defenders made your team considering we had the best defence in the league.

To be fair it was between Trotman and Minihan (your right back if that's how you spell his name?). Only my personal opinion as you say, but in my opinion I think County were the best team this year but not necessarily (warburton aside) with the best individual players. Always incredibly dependent on which day you saw teams / players of course.

Going back to Hereford and the 700k - I know they get good crowds but have they come into money?

It was only about 2 years ago one or two teams at the arse end of L2 budget wise were running on 800k budgets, although I’m still not surprised clubs are running similar at this level.

Their budget when they won their Step 3 league was £331k. This season it was £500k and they've stated that they will increase it by 40% next season. They sound as though they've been building up their war chest over the past few seasons, which is something we failed to do.

Josh Wilson has gone to Ashton utd. Expect they'll go straight back up with their investment. Sad to see him go but expect us to make a big signing now up front.

Never ever totally convinced by Wilson, he did get goals but I definitely think he would struggle in National League. Will do well for Ashton Utd in Evostik.
