Don't invite him round to watch in your living room next time then! He wasn't in the commentary box.I'm a big fan of Smithy but I remember the one game he played at centre half for us last season at Torquay and he had rings run around him. Much more suited for a central defensive midfield role.
Dulwich played well, Jeff Monakana direct as ever and Danny Mills proved a right handful but their defence was found wanting on more than one occasion.
Guy Mowbray successfully triggered me tonight saying that Smithy had signed from Wealdstun, it's fucking well pronounced Weald-stone, similar to Maid-stone funnily enough.
We tried playing Orlu as a ball playing centre back in 17/18... no wonder we got relegated.
It's funny how players can make a diffent impression at different clubs. Orlu's been decent for Hamlet so far, solid defender, but agree that I wouldn't want him attempting anything too fancy. He nearly got caught in possession on the edge of his own box faffing about at one point late in the first half last night, which didn't look as bad on the television. (The commentator decribed it as "skill"!)
Smith looked a bit limited in our midfield, a strong enforcer but lacks subtlety on the ball; however he's settled in well as a left-sided centre back and that was his fourth goal from deliveries into the box since the beginning of October.
I like Monakana, direct winger with pace who can take his man on either side and deliver with either foot. His season has been rather disrupted by injury and illness so far.
Mills is a phenomenal target man who wins almost everything in the air, good finisher who wastes few chances, and a good leader who holds the ball up superbly. He's also assistant manager of our youth team, who play at home to Forest Green Rovers in the FA Youth Cup 2nd Round on Thursday with a tie away to Middlesbrough awaiting the winners.
