Not at our fluid best by a long shot, but a tough tough game and a superb win. Gives us a nice boost to go top prior to Tuesday. Surprised we didn't make changes either pre game or mid second half with the big one on Tues - but locking up the win was vital. Lineup Tues will be very interesting. Draw suits us with this win, but suspect we'll go for it and as Pompey prob need the win to settle any anxiety it could be an absolute cracker.

Top o’ the league.

Not an overly exciting first half- both teams playing a pretty intense style of football which I kind of expected from Southend after what I saw of them earlier in the season. Neither side really having too many decent opportunities; most of the play in the middle third.
Keep it warm for us for a few days...

A thoroughly professional performance today without needing to up the gears. Southend were very negative I thought and gave us far too much respect allowing us to dominate possession. Should have been more comfortable than the 1-0 scoreline suggests. The one goal lead though was rarely threatened. Our midfield were excellent today, in particular McCormack who was back to his aggressive best. Southend were disappointing. Had been impressed with them in the match at KR and in the JPT but the fast flowing and accurate passing game was missing today. There is no doubting the spirit at our club. You could see that at the end of the game. Players, management and fans alike enjoying the victory. NJ may have gone but big Mick is just allowing the players to continue playing in the same manner. They play for each other and give everything. What more can you ask.
Tuesday game is massive. A sell out crowd again under the floodlights with 1st playing 2nd. Should be one hell of a game and atmosphere.

Hopefully a draw.

We didn’t play very well at all against Dale today but the three points is all that matters.

Yep. Really, really glad to get the 3 points after going behind - I thought we were going to batter them again going by recent form but fair play to Rochdale, restricted us to not many chances and nearly equalised at the end with a goalmouth scramble. Hearing it was one of the better performances from an opposition side at Oakwell this season.

Only 2 points off Portsmouth in 2nd. Another big game on Tuesday at Oxford to come, can't wait.

It was quite a poor game. Rochdale weren’t very good and were behaving like quite the c*** with regards to time wasting and dirty tactics, we broke through quite a few times without making anything of it. Their goal was ridiculous too, embarrassing on our part. It was just a poor game all round overall but I’m growing quite accustomed to it, this division is just death 80% of the time. But like I say, coming away with the points at the end of a bad day at the office will do me.

All eyes on Luton v Pompey this Tuesday. If it’s a draw then mathematically speaking my lot can go top if we win the games in hand. However our games in hand are scattered and one of them needs moving again due to our checkatrade involvement, plus we may not win them anyway.

Maja’s gone so a goalscorer needed so this is going to be a big week for SAFC in the transfer market.

Luton have been quite impressive but part of me thinks Pompey will get 3 points as well as Barnsley on Tuesday. The top 5 are all capable of going up automatically and this season just keeps getting more and more interesting.

February a massive month for us as we play 4 home games by the 19th against all winnable oppo. Starting with Wimbledon next sat, let’s hope they don’t play like they did yesterday.

Hats off to AFC Wimbledon yesterday though and a shout out to Wycombe who keep grinding out results. Let’s enjoy the rest of the season.

I’m not overly confident, but I don’t think any Pompey fan can be overly confident that they will win either. We’ve not lost at home in 10 months and are 16 unbeaten. I think it’ll be a tight draw.

I'd certainly take a draw on Tuesday. The result against QPR will have given us some confidence after two shambolic performances against Blackpool and Oxford. Whatever happens, there is still a long way to go and we still have to go to Charlton and Sunderland, whilst Barnsley still have to come down to Fratton.

Realistically it's two from five for the autos but we still need one or two signings before the transfer window shuts.

On paper a point away at Peterborough isn’t a bad one but i’m a little disappointed. Peterborough not very good and were there for the taking, we weren’t at our best ourselves which makes it frustrating and we were clearly missing Taylor. Grant’s missed penalty is probably one of the worst I’ve ever seen and then it breaks immediately after the game that he’s leaving, so thanks for that final contribution, Karlan. Does beg the question why he was even playing let alone taking a possible match winning penalty when his head and heart is with another club.

Rumoured to be looking at bringing in two new forwards though, one on loan and one permanent so we’ll hopefully be better off.

Disappointed not to win but we’re still in touch with some winnable games coming up, three clean sheets on the bounce so that’s a positive and the fans were excellent.

Thought Luton outplayed us first half. Second we was much better but still didn’t create a lot. Fair result

Cods have lost their way, accepting they had a way in the first place. Individually some solid performances but as a TEAM a bit of a shambles. Paddy Madden deserves better, the lad puts in a real shift every game, not seen many players with his work ethic. Manager wise, I expect to see some development of the team as the season progresses but currently we seem to be regressing. Looking at our neighbours Blackpool, we have far better players, light years better infrastructure and off-field support for the team and a pitch you can play the game on. Yet they are doing the business despite all their adversities.

We have discussed similar comments among the group who sit together re players/ground/training facilities/backroom staff, the list goes on for a good while. Our inability to come back from a goal down is embarrassing, Barton speaks very eloquently in his post match interviews but actions speak louder than words
I actually think we can 'kick on' next season and aim for a play off position, at the end of the day the buck stops with the manager and Pilley takes no prisoners !

Hopefully Hawkins is back and new signing Omar Bogle will feature, gone from no hope, to a little bit more confident, especially as the conditions are going to be horrendous and may suite our direct style.

Don’t think it’ll go ahead if I’m honest.

Well I can’t go in any case; but we’ve been here before with snow postponements and abandonments. I think it’s best not repeated!

Big game for us up at Bradford tonight and not fancying our chances. We are getting perilously close to the relegation spots and don't seem to be able to buy a win in the league, despite some good results in the cup (seems familiar to when we knocked everton out of the cup in 2003 and fell out of the league the same season..)

Plus we never seem to get much from trips to Bradford.....prediction 2-0 Bradford

Got a funny feeling about tonight. Despite the fact that since Jones went we have done well, it does rather seem from the interviews I’ve read it’s the players sort of self managing at the moment with Mick providing a light steer in the right direction when required. There is clearly great spirit and togetherness as a result of that, but think that only takes you so far, especially in big games against whiley operators like Jackett and a Portsmouth team that can seemingly grind out wins.

The signing of Bogle may prove very astute, he absolutely ripped us apart the last time he played against us for Grimsby if I recall, one of the best centre forwards displays I’ve seen. Now we have 2 better centre halves these days I think but and he hasn’t done it since then, but in a team that plays to his strengths as I think Pompey might, he could prove a real threat.

We will see, let’s hope the team this season continues to surprise and prove me to be wrong.

Due personal incompetence I will be forced
to attempt to follow this game on an over night bus between two South American backwaters, I’m thinking the journey might be torturous in more ways than one!

Expecting a draw or loss, hoping for more. Bets on Bogle coming on on the 75th minute and scoring a matchwinning brace?

Kieffer Moore hat trick tonight would be nice then we can slap another million onto the asking price.

Huge game tonight (as above) Vs Shrewsbury, the brilliant December form though is long gone and the last few games have been nailed on relegation form, so that will need to change. Lack of transfer activity isn’t helping so confidence or good spirit is non existent and going 0-1 down tonight will almost guarantee we lose. Weather update - a bit drizzly.

On the bench. Woodrow hatty would be nice instead.

Realistically think we're in for a tough game and taking nothing for granted after Saturday and Oxfords last result beating Pompey
