Southport 0-3 Peterborough Sports

We shot ourselves in the foot in the first minute, terrible defending from Anson and Cam Mason hopelessly out of position, and their lad slotted it in from an angle just outside the area. We tried to claw our way back in the game but created nothing, and they picked us off as they had been threatening to do with a good attack down their right. I thought we'd come out fighting in the second half but we lacked any sort of threat. We gifted them a penalty through a stupid challenge, but Mason made a decent double save from it. Two minutes later though Peterborough Sports launched another counter attack and made it 3-0.

No complaints about the result, Peterborough Sports were well organised, physical, and played some good football. I think they'll surprise a few more this season. We, however, have somehow managed to turn a +5 goal difference to a -1 goal difference in 110 minutes of football. I fear our season may have peaked at about the hour mark last Saturday!

City 2 Boston 0. We really should have won by more, very unimpressed with Boston who looked substandard today.
Unimpressed is probably putting it kindly.... we're literally making it up as we go along
Had Gloucester had anything about them for large portions you'd have done what southport did for the first hour last week

Well, Lakeland did do ok in the NPL with us, More than, tbf. Played 442 initially, then we got up with 3.4.3 AND some new players, but almost immediately he went to 5 stuck at the back & 1 up front and basically stayed like that. Seemed to be trying to grind 1-1s and nil nils out. Which can work out for you, granted. Especially with 1 down or sumsuch. But with 4 down this season its a dangerous game to play.
He also p*ssed off a large section of us when the new owner changed the club badge, went to the stoopid green kit and crazy 'name' change for our Throstle Nest ground etc,. All unconsulted and dropped on us as a nasty week of shocks a couple of yrs back. Lakeland -whether under instruction or thru' a misreading of the true supporters, defended all this AND was v critical of the support. Some of us never forgot or forgave that, and he was tainted as a result.

If I was fair on the tactics the 4-5-1 was what Curzon played a lot under Flanagan when I first watched Curzon and it served them well as they had double promotions and think Lakeland was in coaching set up at that time.

But it involved enormous workrate and we also were one of the best passing part time sides, we would pass ball to death even if it went no where they carried on and on until it started to click.

Mistake Lakeland seems to be making is turning this style into a more defensive hybrid approach, hoof forward and think later.

It doesn’t work but the forward has zero support in this manner, at least when passing it up the field we had 7-8 players bringing it forward and while we didn’t always get to box when we did we had options.

Now it’s hoof forward then hope 2-3 players can work past 6-7.

He won’t last long if it carries on,worse for him is while we were a direct side last year we had a no fear attack approach with our last manager, it leaked goals but you enjoyed going.

I find it a chore going to watch curzon under Lakeland.

Decent day out down Chorley yesterday, a cracking following from Darlo too and made loads of noise.

Thought it was an even game with both sides having their share of dominating the ball without doing much up top.

Happy with the draw though, tough place to go is Chorley.

As always, Darlo fans were excellent, supported their team and were a credit yo their club. Agree a point each was fair, good luck for the rest of the season.

Kidderminster away today…….

A year ago with our previous set up we’d gone and taken game to Kiddy, created chances, may still have lost because we would miss many of them due to not being able to afford the quality others can, but still have a good go and make Koddy know they were in a game.

One year later of Lakeland and I’d expect tonight will be ‘Kidderminster, aaarrggh, aaaarrgh 9-0-1, 9-0-1, don’t pass the half way line’

We will then either get outplayed but somehow scape a 1/2-0 loss and say ‘well it was Kidderminster’ or else will get thumped 4/5-0 and say ‘well it was kidderminster’

Ah great. We just had that with Leamington although their keeper was on a different level. One of the best keeping performances I've seen at Aggborough.

Also I hope your fans aren't following the your club website to find Aggborough

" On the 16th August 2022 Curzon Ashton will make the trip south to Birmingham to play Kidderminster Harriers."

Just a short 15 odd miles away.

Going off our tactics I think the most plan is our lone forward will play in Birmingham with the rest of the team sat back in kidderminster

2 goals up. surprising but something we can hold onto and may well win it.

thought our manager under pressure, but considering their fixtures this start must be heaping pressure on the kiddy manager.

listening to game i dont think curzon have done masses going forward but they have given kidderminster absolutely no chances so far and kiddy just cannot get a foothold on the game.

1-0 down with 10 minutes to go, and Southport have been down to 10 men for most of the second half. It looks like the hoodoo continues.

147 Darlo fans in a crowd of 871...I thought Southport got bigger crowds than that TBH.

That's a good number travelling.

We've got a lot of fans who live well out of town who can't get to midweek home games (myself included). Our midweek attendances tend to drop by 100-200 fans compared to Saturday games and have done for years.

Find it an interesting start of the season, no one really standing out.

Kings lynn top, but when you see the games realistically they have not played anyone too tough yet (no offence to brackley but your a building project this year)

from what i have seen of banbury and their results so far, could be the dark horse.

Artificial pitch came to the rescue there, absolutely hammered it down for hours and would have certainly been called off otherwise.

We started the game well against Peterborough but couldn't seem to capitalise on our possession and sure enough they break, put it across the face of goal and get a tap in. Cheap goal to give away, defensively we're not quite there yet.

Fortunately we didn't panic and got back to passing and stretching play and McClure headed in a cross and then Sion Spence got his first for the club just before half time. Second half we dominated play and it was only a matter of time till we got another, McClure brilliantly finishing off another cross into the box. He was then subbed, and we got a penalty literally a couple of mins after. He's our penalty taker, so instead Mitford stepped up but smashed his shot against the post.

A good display overall, despite the scoreline Peterborough were no slouches and I'd be surprised if they don't get some more shock results like they did at Southport.

Frustrating defeat for us, their centre back just took a pot shot from 25 yards out in the 85th minute and it flew in. Great goal to be fair.

Deserved more but got to take that on the chin and just credit a wonder strike. Good competitive match.

By heck it was warm credit to the players from both clubs playing some attractive football in those temperatures. I'll second that good luck Prodigal for the rest of the season.

More accurate would be it`s a major rebuilding project at Brackley. only four left now from the Trophy winning side, and they are all getting on a bit now. Eight gone from last season (including three of the best). Was concerned in prospect, and it doesnt look great. Brackley wouldn`t normally turn a 1-0 lead into a late 2-1 loss, but this season is different. New guys need time to slot in and we will see how they measure up. Play-offs will be a big stretch, mid table consolidation feels like the best outcome. Which will be strange, after six seasons of sustained success.

Didn't think we dominated any part of that game to be honest, we looked flat and no signs of creating much.

Southport looked more drilled, organised and wanted it more especially after going down to 10 men.

Was impressed with Marcus Maddison when he come on, looked to add a bit of life to that midfield.

Not impressed by the little scrotes behind the away end throwing a flare into the away section. Idiots.

Need a reaction on Saturday. We go again.

2 more points dropped fro a winning position, Keeper Urwin beaten again from distance, major worry is we struggle for goals, Connor Hall will get goals but unfortunately he has little support ex Manager Vermiglio has saddled us with Jack Sampson on contract, he must be the worst striker in this Division by a huge margin. A season of struggle I am afraid.

We've just signed midfielder Ben Liddle after being released by Bristol Rovers during the summer.

He's the son of Darlo Legend Craig Liddle.

Quality signing for us, surely now we are targeting the play-offs.
