What a crap fight for promotion this season has been, anyone who goes up will come falling right back down.
Just shows how poor it is when your main challengers are Stevenage and Northampton ffs, talk about the most anti football, fucking tinpot lower league teams imaginable.

Next season will be more fun at least when we're fighting it out against Hollywood Wrexham, Notts County and a better Bradford.
I'm pretty sure teams performances in L2 has only a very small partial effect on how they will fair in L1 the season after and will mainly depend on how the club can cope on the whole with the step up, with regards recruitment and finances etc. As the the team that gets them promoted is generally in the main very different to the team that takes the field in L1.

I said last week that our top 3 hopes were gone after fucking up at Gillingham, and I stand by it. I was also ridiculed for saying I don’t think we’ll finish top 7, and whilst we’re still in amongst it I do still think we’ll fall short. Preying that the team proves me wrong. i’d absolutely take a 7th placed right now and then we can worry about the actual playoff games later. But this is now 4 games without a goal, and only 1 or 2 chances at best over the 4 games. Easter weekend is now massive for our top 7 hopes, 2 games against out of form teams that we have to win. Continue this run of not scoring and it’ll be over come Easter Monday with the tough fixtures we have coming up after.

We got ourselves into a great position, but the worry is we’re going to just fizzle out with a whimper.

A career in motivational speaking is not for you.

This might be the core issue as we close in on something that we have all craved for such a long time. I read and hear negative comments everywhere when it concerns Carlisle United. The years and years of being beaten down both on and off the pitch have left a huge mental scar. I don't blame those people. I have the same ghosts in my mind but I try to fight them away.

I'm getting to the point now where if it doesn't happen now with Paul Simpson then it will never happen. It's worrying and stressful. Being a local man Simpson himself will have a sense of this desperation and my hope is that he's able to shield the players from the torrent of self doubt that seeps out of all Carlisle United supporters.

This home game with Tranmere is our most important game in years. We need a turning point, a punch of optimism. What a perfect opportunity with a large crowd to build some togetherness and belief.

Promotion is still a very real possibility and we've got to show on the terraces that we're up for the fight all the way.

I don’t think we will unless there’s a huge squad overhaul. As much as I criticise this squad for lack the quality to compete with the top teams, it’s more than good enough to be a solid league 2 team.

Obviously some players will move on, but I don’t expect us to completely rip up the base of the team like Holdsworth did in 2021.

We’ve exceeded expectations this season. For me it’s been glaringly obvious that we don’t have the quality to really be competing with these teams at the top, so it’s an achievement in its self to be where we are, even if we do as I expect continue to drop off.

With Simpson in charge I see no reason why we can’t further improve our squad over the summer. He himself said that it’s going to be a long term thing. I know this board has previous for flogging players and making cuts after a good season, but I’m hoping they’ve finally learnt from past errors.

Stockport County.
Cut this down to the top 10 now. I said last week Barrow were well in it, they've got a good run in. Worth a tenner on them sneaking in the play-offs.

We're more likely to drop out of the play-offs altogether than challenge top 3 but table says all cards are still on the table. But we're just flat at the moment. Never get a our best team on the pitch.

I think Bradford will finish in the top 3.

Yesterday was a big win for them given all the dropped points above them and looking at their remaining fixtures I expect them to pick up a lot of points.

It’s getting real tight.

Win our game in hand (Crewe away) and it puts us right on the edge of the autos.

We have Crawley away Good Friday then Sutton at home next Monday. If we win them both, I think we may climb into 3rd position and end Sutton’s play-off credentials.

Our last three games of the season are key. Northampton away, Crewe away and then Leyton Orient at home on the final day.

Going right down to the wire is this one.

Agreed. The near future does look promising.

I wasn't implying that it needs to be this season or bust. Although given the current position we've got to give it our best shot to take advantage.

What I meant was that whether it's this season, or the next, or the one after that. I have this sense that if he can't achieve promotion out of this league at some point in the near future I'd fear that would be a crushing blow for the club, especially when off the field matters remain unresolved.

Stockport and Mansfield (currently) have the easiest run-in.

I'm not sure about what makes an easy run in near the end though. Hartlepool and Rochdale are 23rd and 24th and we have them both but they're fighting for their lives etc.

I'd rather be playing teams like Doncaster, Wimbledon, Walsall etc who are just seeing out the season.

I really don't think we will make the playoffs, we are an additional point worse off with our goal difference and we've still got six points to make up. As you can see with our W/L ratio in the table above it shows how inconsistent we've been over the season. However, it shouldn't take anything away from what a good season it's been for us, even to have a slim chance at this stage is a lot more than I ever expected.

We've a couple of interesting home games where we could put a spanner in the works of the auto chase. If you believe what you read on here though Carlisle will be coming here trying to get back in the top 7.

This illustrates why I say our top 7 hopes could be over by 5pm Easter Monday. Imo we need 6 points from the 2 games.

We’re not getting much out of those last 5 games.

I've written us off, we are pretty hopeless against the top teams in this league so therefore we're not good enough to go up.
Need to invest in the summer on better attacking and creative players, ones who are at their peak and have good pedigree for this level. Not some fucking loanee 18 year olds or past it has beens.

What, written is off for top 7 as well? Or just for automatics.

I think top 3 is gone, because as you say we’re not good enough against the top teams, but if we win both games over Easter we’ll have a chance of top 7. I still think we’ll fall short but I haven’t given up yet.

I have more faith in Bradford being top 7 after their late win

The tanks looked pretty empty at Sixfields yesterday so have a fear we’ll get reeled in. Newport and Gillingham over Easter so hopefully at least 4 points from those two.

Swindon and Rochdale for us. Need at least 4 points, hopefully Orient spank Salford and we can get back into that top 7 on Friday. We never fucking win at Swindon though, don't think I've seen us score there yet either

We scored at swindon last season when it was half a yard over the line but the ref didn’t give it haha.

The win yesterday was massively important especially with the draws knocking about for other teams, if we can get 4 from those 2 i’ll be happy.

A draw against swindon would be alright with rochdale, grimsby etc coming up

Whereas Rovers are treading water and have nothing to play for. Some think that caretaker Ian Dawes’ preference for a midfield diamond will enable the stronger sides, I certainly include Carlisle in those, to tear us apart. We’ll see. While a part of me would enjoy it if we could reciprocate the way the Cumbrians in tandem with pet referee Brakespear effectively derailed our season last year, it isn’t going to happen.

Ended already. We have 5 of top 6 to play. At least we have interesting games and should get some decent coin in from the away fans. Not enough goals in us ultimately this season. I’d be surprised if we don’t win a game or 2 at home vs Northampton, Carlisle, Orient and Stockport though, so we’ll have a say in it (Orient are up so can discount that one really).

Our defeat at Bradford means I’m man enough to admit that our top 3 hopes are over so now it’s all out to try and cement a play off place.

Im a bit concerned at having to play 2 games in 3 days over the coming weekend. I know all the sides do but we are really stretched to the limit at the moment, the lack of options off the bench was clearly felt on Saturday against Stevenage. Hoping for a win against Newport and then a home draw against Gillingham as the tired bodies are more obviously noticed.

Correct. It was confirmed last season by the Chesterfield and Wrexham fans that Stockport play Dover at home every single week.
