Can’t believe we’re in the top 3 based on how we’ve been playing this season.

With the Hartlepool and Rochdale resurgence in full swing we do have the toughest run in I think out of all the teams.

Top 3 was done after the Gillingham defeat in my opinion. And now our top 7 hopes are hanging by a thread.

Given the way we’ve been playing for the past 6 games, our lack of quality and the fact we’re proven failures in games against the top teams i can’t make a case for us picking up enough points to finish in a playoff place.

Today was must win, and we failed, against an out of form team who were down to 10 men for about 40 minutes.

As I said a couple of weeks back, I’d take scraping 7th place on GD right now.

I think we've blown our shot at promotion unfortunately. Don't get me wrong on paper we're still right in the thick of it with some winnable fixtures but everything about us is trending in the wrong direction. We're losing players to injury left, right and centre and our performances just aren't the level of a side that will earn promotion.

If we do win promotion it'll only be via the automatics, if we fall into the play-offs there's absolutely no chance that we win them.

I wrote us off after Newport but a really assured performance from a visibly knackered squad has perked me back up again.

Win lose or draw we always seem to be 6th.

Genuinely not looking forward to playing Rochdale next week. Just hope we put in the same performance as we did today and not like we did against them at home!

Still don't think we'll finish in the autos but very happy to be proven wrong.

We've basically secured a place in the playoffs now, Mansfield can only catch us on goal difference.

That Stockport result is a grim one for anyone with hopes of sneaking that third auto spot. They've gone from hardly conceding goals and eking out wins and draws to dishing out a spanking. They'll run Cobblers hard for second spot now I reckon which slams the door shut as they'll have enough to get the job done. Carlisle have both of these two at home next and could throw a spanner in the works but I can't see it. Stockport looking like they're replicating their unbeaten run but from last season.

I still think we’re in danger of being the team reeled in. In fantastic form yes, but I can’t see that continuing in all honesty.

We've not actually hit the top 3 all season but I do fancy us to get there now.

We've the game in hand and still have Northampton to play. They can be caught. Lots of it's and buts there but for us it just has that feel now.

How do the rest of your fixtures look?

Yeah it's almost like you hit form marginally too early...but to be fair the division is weak. Win at Carlisle and it's a huge step towards it.

Rochdale and Northampton aside the rest have nothing left to play for which I’m hoping will work in our favour, Leyton Orient will presumably lift the trophy at home before playing us.

I beg to differ - our run in:

Sat 15 April: Northampton
Tuesday 18 April: Stockport
Sat 22 April: The Cumbrian Classico, against a side who'll be absolutely desperate to finally get one over on us
Sat 29 April: Salford
Monday 8 May: Sutton

That's pretty tough - 3 sides still chasing promotion, one with half a chance of a playoff place (who are gagging for revenge after their experience at our place, and are yet to beat us in the league since their return), and the favourites for the midtable cup.

If we don't take 4 points from the next two games, our automatic hopes will be all but dead.

Gillingham will likely give you a game too, but at this point you're as likely as anybody to go up.

Think the second and third promotion places could go down to the final day with 4 or 5 sides still involved.

Agree with that but it feels we had our big wobble at Newport on Friday. A poor result today would have left everyone panicking but the win and the manner of the win has given everyone a massive boost.

Carlisle a huge game, worth the 4 1/2 hour train.

Don't think it's a bad list of fixtures to be honest.

Get past Rochdale and then you’ve got a nice couple of games leading up to what could be a massive game against ourselves. Definitely feels so up in the air.

I genuinely don’t think I could take that again

Been a while since we've been involved in an automatic promotion shakeup this late in the season, my guts are already turning. Last season must have been hard to stomach for you...

Aye potentially yours might be.

For us:

Gillingham (a)
Carlisle (a)
Rochdale (h)
Orient (a)
Hartlepool (h)

More away games than home. Gills have won 8 of their last 9 at home. Fellow promotion team in Carlisle. At the Champions when they receive the trophy. Rochdale needing to win to stay up and potentially the same against Hartlepool.

Can't believe it's going to come down to us hoping for favours from the Monkey Hangers and Barra on the last day (presuming we're still in the mix at that point)

During the game yeah but by the train had pulled into the station at 10pm it was all processed! Didn’t have any enthusiasm for the playoffs that followed at all mind you

Also - a certain Lincolnshire club having their relegation from the conference confirmed today has raised a smile and a small helping of ‘get to fuck’….

Fucking no chance we’re taking 4 points from these next 2 games. We’re not good enough to beat those teams. Top 3 is gone. It was gone a couple of weeks back in my view. We had to beat Gillingham and Walsall.

Top 7 is even going to be a struggle now. I was laughed at weeks ago for saying I don’t think we’ll finish top 7, but now i don’t think people are quite as sure as they were.

I can’t see us winning any of the next 3, today was a huge setback!

Stockport have basically cruised it since mid-October once they settled into the league with 58 points from their last 28 games. Now they've finally broken into the top three it's difficult to see them not making it.

Mental break down when you finish 4th and see us scraping into 7th?

Indeed, and I will not be at Field Mill to watch us get turned over. Had enough of that for one lifetime.
