Yeah I accidentally posted on the wrong thread but guess we are coming into the frame. Probably us and Stockport collected most points since the start of December. No pressure on us of course but there is a lot of (familiar) belief flowing through the players/fans.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
The next month I think will determine it for Carlisle. Get through this and they have a top 7 maybe even top 3.

Or they will collapse through a tough bunch of games……..teams we ain’t been beating this season.

For me key is Carlisle just finally ‘having a go’ in these game and not worrying about who they play.

The strengths are alot of skill, pace and creativity. The failings are that the back line and goalkeeper and not promotion quality.

Go into these games attempting to ‘keep it tight’ and I think they will lose most of them without much effort, that defence will always leak goals, it gifted two horribly defended goals yesterday to a deflated Crawley side will lax marking and half hearted defending.

Take the game to the other side, using the pact passing qualities the side has and it’s ability to create chances then it may well come off with afew wins.

Sadly I think the opposite will happen, a belief of keeping it tight and batting that will see them lose most of them.

For me despite us currently being outside the playoffs positions we are pretty much nailed on as a playoffs side, we've thrown plenty of them stinkers in this season that we all get at this level, but we somehow seem to hang around in the right area of the table. We never look great but are generally hard to beat, we also only seem to turn up against teams in the top half of the table, so if we can continue this trend and grind out a playoffs place I'd be much more confident in them games than say us home to Harrogate

We've not played to keep it tight all season? Zero reason why we would start now. The amount of goals that we've scored are testament to that.

The open nature of our play is why we've had the odd game of conceding 3 or 4. I wouldn't worry about the two goals yesterday we already had it won.

13 clean sheets is decent and puts us on course for 18 which is a solid amount. Add to that 11 games where we only conceded one goal. That's 72% of games where we've conceded 1 or fewer which I think is good. Couple that with our consistent scoring and that's a recipe for picking up points regularly.

Holy has come in for some stick but I don't see it. Barring that Walsall mess he's been more than capable. We've been blessed with good goalkeepers over the years which I think gives our fans overinflated expectations between the sticks.

Its one thing going up but another thing is staying up -- Just ask FGR fans. The difference is not as big as League 1 to the Championship but it is still quite a difference. Exeter, Port Vale and us have done ok but we are still just middle to bottom teams. Not sure about the others who went up but we have spent over 1 million just to get to this position. Are the teams in pole positons this season able do this as you will certainly all need to improve your squads drastically. There is no point going up to just simply go back down the next season.

Hoping for a small miracle and you win the league as I've a treble with Burnley, Sheff Weds and you guys. Burnley has already been paid out and the Owls look a good bet. Its unlikely but still alive (just!!) Do you still have Orient to play?

We don’t. 0-0 at Brisbane Road and beat them 1-0 at Sixfields in the New Years fixture.

I’ve done the same - Burnley, Wendies, Wrexham and . . .

. . . fucking Swindon. Although I’ve done it e/w which is finish in the top 4, but I think that’s beyond us now with the loss of so many players.

Yeah it seems a stretch.

No point going up to go straight back down again?

How do you explain the existence of Northampton Town then?

I Can't. But I'm sure their fans would love them to stay up . For at least a couple of seasons anyway. I can still remember watching Northampton in the top flight in the Mid 60's. So they can do it. Mind you I think they only managed one season.

All the best clubs have only spent one season in the top flight tbf.

I remember watching your lot on your way up ( 61/62 Season ) I think we did the double over you and got relegated. You also played in Blue.

If you can repeat last weekend's antics against them twice that would be cushty.
If we can keep getting the away game postponed we could play them twice in mid/ late April and decide their season.
I wasn’t joking about this you know - I always thought it was highly likely that a game so close to the FA Cup QF weekend would have to be rearranged…

Last time we got promoted, the teams that got automatic promotion alongside us were Orient and Northampton. Just saying.

What's so good about Northampton?

They usually take up one of the relegation spots when they go up?

Not wrong sadly! Worst example was when we went up under Wilder, promptly lost Wilder and Ricky Holmes, and incoming gaffer Rob Page deemed John Marquis and James Collins not good enough for League 1!

That team under Wilder was one of the best I've ever known at this level, such a good crop of players you had who ended up annihilatiing this league and it wasn't an easy league at the time.

We got Nicky Adams off you the following summer which was nice.

Even though it was always against us I loved watching Ricky Holmes, he’d have been loved here. Shame he seemed to have some bad injuries.

Yeah he was class. Had his own goal of the season comp that year, joined from Pompey where he was sat on the bench. Remember playing Pompey after he’d started on fire for us, he scored the winner and Sixfields serenaded the away dugout with ‘there’s only one Andy Awford’ for letting us have him. Proper player.

When your own team lets you down for £17,000+. And to think, last season I backed Orient at 33/1!

Ben Fox, Tyler Magloire and now Ali Koiki joins them in the ‘won’t play again this season’ club. Rotten luck and all in the last couple of weeks.
