Its weird how some teams have their annual fuck ups. Stockport typically fuck up in April (from their national league days), we go around January and Mansfield...now?

well we had a fuck up with 12 games to go when Evans left us and Flitcroft joined, then the season after it was the last five games in which I think we lost all of em.

Bradford away on that pitch is a bit of a equaliser so it’s a tough one Saturday despite a poor result for them mid-week.

It just depends on the mindset, if someone had said with 9 games to go we’d be 5 clear of 4th with a way better GD anyone would’ve been absolutely ridiculous not to bite the hand off. If someone were completely neutral they’d probably look at our position and go yeah, basically you’re up, but the reality is when you bore down into it is that it’s not that simple.

It's a very tough league this year. Points totals are a red herring, the three that go up automatically will have done a great job.

I imagine it’s sleep intruding at this time of the year.....just being in the play off position is great fun and exciting....I don't think I’d enjoy autos stress right now

We usually have ours in September and it lasts until about April.

This year feels positively stress free in comparison to last year and the year prior.

We were down there for 15 years though and the pressure built higher each year.

Even still there is something disheartening when you win every week and it makes no positive difference to your chances.

I thought Wrexham and Notts running away with last year's Conference (followed by Chesterfield probably doing even better) meant that was a weak division.

Now I find out that several sides tightly battling it out and maybe having the lowest total in living memory also signifies a weak division.

You have Wrexham and Stockport in the relegation places... and Salford a place ahead of them.

Poor as they’ve been by their standards you’ve got a bottom half featuring Bradford, tranmere, swindon, notts county, doncaster all bigger than mansfield for instance - it ain’t no easy league.

Basically this......it’s that simple really.

A lower points tally usually means a more competitive league (look at this year's Legaue two). I think this year's L2 has been pretty competitive with loads of clubs still able to make the top 7. But I still don't think last year's NL was particularly weak, you just had two teams who were a lot better (and better resourced) than the rest of the league. Notts had a League Two budget and we arguably had a League one budget and were attracting players who shouldn't have been at that level by paying them a lot of money. The table from three down was pretty tight.

Generally the standard of the National Legaue has improved over the last decade as teams have got more professional. Obviously it's not as good as League Two but it's a competitive league with difficult away trips and as only two go up it's hard to get out of also given the lack of solidarity payments etc it also gets harder to get out of the longer you are down there without an owner willing to plough a lot of money into the team. If anyone has the misfortune to be relegated then you'll find this out.

TL;DR Weak/strong division arguments are generally a nonsense. Getting promotion/winning titles is always difficult.

Feels like an opportunity missed today, a win would've seen us 4 points off the autos with game(s) in hand on some of those above us, and would've put a good stranglehold on a playoff position. Still, eight points from the four games since our couple of postponements, carry on at a similar clip and we won't be far off.

I do feel sorry for you guys!

I’m fully convinced that we would have romped to the title if we had started the season with Williamson and not that dinosaur.

All ifs and maybes but the stats we do have speak for themselves.

Since Williamson took over in October, 16 wins, 3 draws, 7 defeats (51 points from 78). Compare that to 4 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats under Alexander (16 points from 39).

Trouble is a lot of us thought it would be good to have an experienced manager after the 1st timers we seemed to be employing and to be fair, Alexander didn't have a bad record.
