Our history with Mansfield in terms of promotions and relegations is quite intriguing.

1978 we leapfrogged Mansfield into Division Two (now the Championship).

1993 we leapfrogged Mansfield into Division Three.

2003 we leapfrogged Mansfield into Division Two.

2008 we both were relegated to non league.

2013 Mansfield win promotion back into the football league by sealing the title, Wrexham lose in the play-off final

2024.....?

They went up in 1977 and beat us 1-0 at the Racecourse to pretty much stop us following them. Or so my dad says.

Didn't they win the title against us in 2013?

Yeah heard this story quite a lot on Stagsnet, all kicked off outside cause your lot had the mard on.

We did win the title in 2013 on the last game against yourself, but that result almost felt like a cert with you saving up for the play-offs. It was the last minute Matt Green winner at Hereford on the Tuesday before that which won us it.

Really it's been nice of Mansfield to wait for us all this time until we could join them in L2.

We owe wrexham for that really, they rested all their players for that game which helped us win the title. A certain David artell got sent off in that game late on for wrexham  :ffs:

We lost 2-1 at wrexham that season, another wrexham/mansfield stat is that had we won that game we’d have set a conference record of 13 straight wins, but had to settle for just the 12, it was on a thursday night as everyone was trying to cram in fixtures.

Think that’s the only time we lost post Christmas.

The whole Year Of The Stags started because every one was taking the piss out of us sitting about 12th. Ended up on a mad run and won the title, actually making it Year Of The Stag™️

I remember we’d lost to alfreton at home boxing day (i mean christ  ) and had got liverpool in the FA cup, we absolutely nailed them that game (when suarez hand balled it in) and never looked back.

It was a great match as you were flying and we had a good team at that time as well. 47 year old Glen Little came on and put on a clinic. That would be the most recent time we've played you at ours as I can't remember any cup matches.

That final conference season we won 20 out of 23 games after that Liverpool game. The three we lost to were Kidderminster at home in January, then Wrexham in early April and then Braintree away a week before the final game.

Everyone says that Hereford win on the Tuesday before the last game was the defining moment of the season but I don’t think we would have got to that game if we had not won three crucial away games in a week (Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday ) at Hyde, Luton and Lincoln. Both Luton and Lincoln were last minute winners. After them three I knew that the team that season was special.

Ridiculously tough league that season, one of the hardest in living memory , luton didn’t even make the playoffs!

When you look at how poor it is this season!

Didn’t you lose 2-0 away to us in February?

Yes, you are correct, our 20 wins from the last 23 games of the season was after the Kidderminster defeat and not before. The three defeats were all away against Newport, Wrexham and Braintree.

Massive win for Grimsby. Doesn't matter how they come in a game that big. All about the 3 points.
I admire the optimism you must have for us but I think we’ve left our promotion push just a little too late.

Yeah I remember after that Alfreton game you were due at home again against a team who at the time were flying at the top of the league but then somebody accidentally left the sprinklers on and it got postponed….. :lac:
I went to the rearranged game too right in the middle of your mad winning run and we still battered you for an hour before you brought on Matt Rhead and the fat fucker scored with his first touch and we lost 2-0.

I keep telling you, it wasn’t a sprinkler it was a hose.

Well we're not going make the automatic places but I'm beginning to believe that we could make the playoffs despite us being shite. It's a breath of fresh air after consistently struggling at the bottom of league one then finishing 20th/21st(?) last season. Even if we don't make the playoffs it's been a successful season.

We're done for the autos I think. Lost momentum at the worst time and I'm not sure we overhaul any 2 of the teams above us to get in. Which is fine, POs is more than ok with me.
