I’m curious to know if Bradford had their best team out, can anybody confirm?
We made 5 changes but the ones to come in are all squad players so are expected to come up to the mark. We should have won but didn't do enough to do so. Draw the right result and the quality of penalties very good. Early days for both teams, plenty of time to improve.

Well played much better than Saturday especially after Bradford missed their pen, probably because the players realised they were playing against 12 men so had to step it up a notch.
Bit childish. Even replays look as though we had a good goal chalked off but a good experienced ref must have seen something

Yep really liked the look of Kouyate. Plant had a rough night.
Yeah was disappointed with Plant as he came through last season very well, that said he is really a wide forward rather than a wing back and playing out of position but did do well as cover there in L1 until his injury last season.

He is probably crying out for a loan in the National League to get minutes (or maybe played in his proper position!) but of our kids he is the most experienced now.

Conceding from an underhit backpass and then Slocombe lobbing one in his own net? We are BACK.

"The Entertainers"

Naturally we were never going to win a shootout with a goalkeeper who has never saved a penalty for the club (he adopta the ineffective Peter Shilton method) but I was really impressed with the performance until the sloppy backpass.

We defended really well for 60 odd minites and then we didn't.

We had nearly 3 times the number of shots and touches in the opponents half than Grimsby, but couldn't really make it hard for the keeper with some awful finishing. I think if Patto played we would have won easily, but with his injury record it's understandable that we keep him just for the league. It was very slow and lethargic at times, the best thing about the game was a very good penalty shoot out what I thought would go all night at one stage. One last thing on the game, every corner more or less was given as a foul one way of the other. I have no idea how we got a pen, but likewise I've no idea how our goal was disallowed, considering how poor the pen was I know which decision I'd have rather had!

Best of luck to Grimsby, hope you get a good draw.

Lost 2-1 away at Derby, no shame in that especially considering we made a few changes & gave some of our attacking squad players a go.

The bigger worry is that Mandeville has picked up an ankle injury in training but not sure on extent of it, Colclough’s hamstrings are being ‘nursed’ (fit enough to be on the bench tonight though), Tanton came off at HT (fingers crossed that was planned), and last but definitely not least, Tom Naylor seems to have rolled his ankle after a heavy tackle and had to come off in the 2nd half (they scored 1 minute after).

Positives are that Dunkley & Gordon looked very good again, Oldaker excellent again, and Dobra was my MOTM and got another goal. Fingers crossed the injuries aren’t too bad. Overall, I’d have taken a respectable 2-1 loss before the game definitely
Well fucking great. If you could pick 4 players to not get injured they'd be right up there. Especially Naylor. Hopefully they're pretty innocuous. Mounting up a wee bit now the injuries. Most not long term though I think so that's one thing at least.

Keeper horror show - carrying on after the howler against Chesterfield. 2 down to Creepy, got back to 2-2, missed a pen, then bollixed it up in the final couple of minutes.

Why Kennedy thought it was an excellent performance after losing 4-2 I have no idea.

Need a proper keeper - quickly.

Early days but Byrne and Baldwin look shite. Some promise in the rest of the side but that will be our downfall.
The most frustrating thing about this is that everyone saw it coming a mile off. I’ve posted a few times how we’ve gone for quantity over quality at centre half and nothing has changed my opinion on that.
The Critchlow deal this summer, if it was ever an option, was frustrating because that is the level required, one player of his standard would cost I guess the same as two bang average ones of which we’ve got about 8 of vying for 3 spots.

Our recruitment team identified these two very early which says everything really. People don't rate Stubbs but he's infinitely better than these two.

That's really surprising to hear, he was good at them here.

Saved 5 in 1 season for us
His reflexes and spring have long gone. He's been a good club servant and I rarely slag players off but it's almost cruel to be putting him in goal now because he's absolutely shot it.

Baldwin should be good, has all the physical attributes but his decision making and concentration at times are all over the place.

Baldwin’s a great example of ‘players don’t change’, as we all say, he’s got good attributes and ‘could’ be a good player - he’s just mentally not good enough to play at a higher level, I’m not sure you can teach things like concentration and common sense

Although Bradford did beat MK Dons a week ago so it’s funny to see their fans writing them off

We played quite well in the first half tonight , and did ok at the start of the second half, but once Plymouth got ahead and we made a ream of changes, it's been one way traffic.

Their changes were much better than ours.

Harrogate away is a fucking great tie. Big buzz about it already. Will we only get a 1,000 or so?

Some good draws for League Two. Tranmere going to Leicester and Donny going to Everton.

Wimbledon at home to Ipswich in the Ali Al Hamadi derby.

Not League Two obviously, but Barnsley v Sheff Utd and Brighton v Crawley also look like tasty games. Some very watchable games.

We didn't defend well against MK Dons, we gave up a lot of good chances through some shocking defending. It was only their bad finishing that we only conceded one.

Would you take Platt back? He's looked a steadying influence for us if a bit short of pace.

Well happy with Wednesday at home, always a great atmosphere whenever we play them and they won’t have to travel far as Yorkies practically live in Cleethorpes for the whole Summer holidays.
Don’t think the Police will be too pleased with that draw though.

Without doubt. He was our best centre half last season and would still be by some distance.

2nd round draw offers most of our teams splendid opportunities with seven home draws.
Good luck to all nine of them. :2thumb:

Last time we played Wednesday in the League Cup we beat them and then got drawn away to Liverpool in the next round.
I’m not greedy, I’ll happily take that again.
Some young kid no one had heard of started for Liveroool that day and scored a hat trick, went by the name of Michael Owen.

At least we’re not playing sheff Utd. Police would have absolutely crapped themselves. Wednesday fans a much better lot

850 max at Harrogate I think. Was last season anyway, that was up a few hundred on previous seasons too.

Meh. Lost on pens at Grimsby after changing half the team from the weekend.

Play them again in a couple of weeks but will be a much different team.
Grimsby probably had 6 players out who most would consider to be in the first choice X1. Wright, Tharme, Hume, Thompson, JDS & Rose. Our bench included 2 yt’s, 2 first year pro’s and a sub keeper. Down to the bare bones.

Bradford made some changes for the game but Cook was on before half time and used the strong and experienced bench to the full in 2nd half.

It was a decent competitive game with a draw a fair reflection over 90 mins.

Obviously I'm interesting ahead of Saturday to see what your injury situation is like and Cook says Mandeville will be out for a period of time whilst he's more optimistic on the other 3. So, could be playing you lot at the right time maybe.
We've ravaged at the moment

Madden, Mandeville, Colclough, Sheckleford, Palmer all will be missing.

Naylor went off injuted on tuesday, as did Tantan so no idea if they are out too. Expecting us to sign 2/3 today/tomorrow though otherwise we are shafted

Is Colclough definitley out because he was on the bench against Derby even though Cook said his calf wasn’t right. Can’t have been that bad to be named on bench, maybe just didn’t start through precaution?

Anyway, heard Araujo & Markanday are done deals so relieves a bit of pressure on injury front at least
