What will be will be, we've all dropped and gained points, although it does seem Barnet have dropped more at the death.

As it stands, the goal difference doesn't mean anything but I'm sure we will all at least drop 2 points between now and the end of the season

We are poor tho, we have hardly played well all season, be it for a strong defence we would be lower reaches of mid table. For all the big names we have we don't create and we don't score. Just shows how poor the conference really is how we can be only 1 point off top. Thats my opinion.

You scored very late on to win it. Which so many teams have done this season, which is unbecoming of league champions.

Looking at form and momentum now, think Grimsby will get it. They're on absolute fire.

Had we held on today, we would have had to slip up twice from five games.

I'd still rather be in our position, even though Grimsby have been looking ominous for some time.

Can't see this being sorted before the last day. Could be a tough choice for the live BT game...

Agreed. How will they choose between Braintree v Altrincham and Telford v Wrexham? :ffs:

All the teams are poor that's why we're all non league . Saying that I don't think its a poor league at all . Crazy , exciting and frustrating but not poor . A point at macc is not a disaster and I've given nothing up yet . Utg

Apparently it was John Akinde who gave away the penalty!

I was one of the few who believed we were mad to let Brad go for the sake of Sam flipping Hatton, Brad should've always been our first choice right back for me. Having a change of heart now.

You weren't well on top during the second half, we controlled most of it. The first half was pretty even but all in all it was an ugly game of football.

Agree, the wind, slope and hard uneven bounce made it poor game. At no time did I feel Alfreton were going to score until the pen and Stack really had very little to do.

Definitely,
The ball was bobbling about on the edge of the six yard box, John went to put his foot through it but missed the ball and his follow through caught an Alfreton player.

Feels amazing to see us win again! Started with newish signing Muldoon upfront with Boden and they worked well although the latter never looked too happy. Weird after Nonentity scored their consolation goal because we completely turned off and didn't get close to having a shot afterwards. Was worrying at the time but we finally saw out a win, thanks in part to two good Glennon saves. Muldoon had one of the most confident performances as a Town striker for a while. So refreshing and deeply satisfying to see two chances finished well. Not our best performance from the past W1D6, but finally three points.

Also worth mentioning the lovely little interview I heard from Teflon's Steve Kittrick this evening on BBC Shropshire driving back up. Getting himself fired with some of his comments, potentially? At best he's damaged himself for good. 35:30 on this:

"I've never been to a club where players just do not want to play for the club. I've asked a player to go on and he goes to me 'Why should I go on, you haven't played me.' I've never ever, in my life, managed in football and a player's turned round and done that. As far as I'm concerned he's a coward"
"I think if every manager in this league had some balls, to turn round and say exactly what [they think to the players], because they're frightened of the PFA"
"It's one thing I'd pack in football for. Player power is rubbish"

1-0 win for Diamonds, with the goal coming from the only real flowing move of the game. While it would be nice to entertain every week, it is far more important to win! Happy with the result, and I'd be happy with a series of 1-0 wins to close out the season of course. All our rivals of import picked up 3 points too. As you were, with less games to go. Lowest we can finish is 4th (mathematically). Practically our total of 86 is already likely to give us a top 3 spot. 5 to go and the 101 mark still possible!

Thanks mate. Looking increasing like you guys will pull off the great escape. If Ronnie Moore suceeds he will be a really cult figure in Hartlepool.

Have a feeling we'll make it. He's done a great job, he's come in, got us organised at first and now we're playing a bit of football too. He's certainly ruffled the players' feathers and he's not afraid to drop or fine them. We've been too soft as a club over the last few years and he's really sorted us out.

Good luck to your boys too, think you'll stay up. Maybe we'll still get to sample the delights of Alfreton next season.

It's now clearly a three horse race and I am expecting all three to slip up at least once more over the next five games.

Plenty more twists still to come.

1st win in 8 games. Came at just the right time as we could have easily come unstuck today. Macclesfield will be a very interesting game, they come with threat from out wide and that is the only area of The Shay that still has grass. (we don't use that bit). We have looked good on the few occasions we have gone 5-3-2 this season as there aren't many sides with two full backs better at getting forward. No dout it'll be 4-3-2-1 again then. We have a slim shot of the play-offs and a win against Macc is vital at keeping that alive as we often stuggle at Sincil Bank.

Started without our first choice LB and CB so not too surprised we lost today. Shame we have helped Tinpotters towards the playoffs but I'd rather it was Woking than FGR.
To make you feel even better, we were without our first choice GK, RB, LB and BOTH CBs. :brill:

What a joker! You make ours and Grimsby's games sound like penalty kicks and as though your playing bloody Barcelona! You do realise that Macclesfield are about 20 places above Alfreton?!?!

If you don't like it then do one yourself.

So today you played a team you had previously had your biggest win against and lost to 21st place Nuneaton last week.
Grimsby played a team we had tonked 5-0. I don't really give a stuff about league position, I'm far more interested in the form and ability of a team now. Alfreton have shown they are a tough team to beat by going 6 games unbeaten and conceding one.

Did you want me to ignore the current facts and pretend everything was rosy in the Macc garden or that Welling are capable of more than just red cards?

Congrats on your draw by the way, If I was doing a thread for next week I'd mention you are now one win in four and things haven't gone to plan for you.

Well, back home now with a new land speed record set...

Another roller coaster of a game like Tuesday. We were the better team throughout. It was a blow to go in to half-time level. Our on-loan goalkeeper, who was brilliant in the week, made a hash of Rooney's shot and Mahon tapped it in.

Second half, Charnock got sent off when he fouled Betsy. It was a clear penalty but the referee, who was awful, gave a free-kick. Brilliant save from the goalkeeper from it. Rendell soon got his second from a corner. Then it got really easy for us and we were knocking it around waiting for the inevitable third. Cue Chester getting a corner and scoring.

About 500 blocked shots later, Josh Payne saves the day. 30-yard volley, first time, into the top corner. Comfortably in the top three goals I've ever seen live and our goal of the season (although we've scored about five goals of the season...this season).

As for Chester, they were alright. Lightweight up top and Crowe didn't have a proper save to make all game. I was a bit worried when Hobson came on (yes, really) as they needed someone to challenge our CBs but then almost straight away they went down to ten men. Kingsley James is still the myth I always thought he was. He chased fellow England C International Payne's shadow for 90 minutes. In fairness, the other Chester midfielders I didn't even notice so clearly that didn't help at all. Goalkeeper is decent as is Heneghan. Rooney largely anonymous.

This being shite thing is getting a bit boring now.

Moyses needs to run at least 100 miles away, he's never a manager up to it at this level. To be placed 13th with that squad is utterly fucking heinous.

We're never getting out of here are we.
