No, at the moment we are both about to be overtaken by fish
We'll see , it wasn't so long ago that any number of Grimsby fans would have personally carried hurst as far from Lincolnshire as it's possible to go .

An unexpected 3 points today and they were deserved. Danny Wright finally showed some composure in front of goal and Hodgkiss had a fantastic game at left back. Of our loanees, I thought Nathaniel Kelly was fantastic. If Birmingham don't want to keep him and if it is over for Gowling here, I'd happily have him and Grimes as our centre back partnership next season.

2 home games left now - Barnet and Bristol Rovers. Ah well, at least we have got one home win in 2015. :conf:

To be fair I'm still not a massive fan of Hurst and I still stand my opinion that he should've gone last season, in spite of hindsight I'll stand by that even if we win the league, but I'll continue to praise him for this run we're on and I'll refrain from slating him should it abruptly end. I don't rate his tactical ability but he's proven his man management is pretty damn good. He's gotten rid of the bad apples, despite them being incredibly talented, and replaced them with players who both give a shit and aren't half bad.

Hurst actually has a very good record in signing successful players and if he'd managed to sign a top striker at the start of the season we'd probably be well away by now. He's also signed Palmer at the right time, the last time we challenged at the top was when we signed Ross Hannah on loan. He was quality for half a season, sent us top then turned shite. Palmer is firing in the right half of the season. Part of me feels Hurst struck lucky a little bit, but I'll give him the credit instead. He makes utterly moronic decisions from time to time but I can rarely fault his signings. Arnold, Magnay, Brown, Pittman, Nsiala, Mackreth, even Clay, all of them good at the very least. Magnay has to be signing of the season in the league barring Akinde.

So yeah. I've found that Hurst ain't THAT bad. He just sometimes does stupid stuff then starts gobbing a bunch of crap on the radio afterwards.

Any idea on the number of Halifax fans there mate?

Unsegregated this time so no account. Was nice to watch one half from the home goals though as the top steps afforded a rare decent view of the game. I suppose it was our customary 183 we bring down there, maybe minus a few due to our bore form but we spread ourselves out.

Cheers, was just wondering for the away support figures on this forum, an estimate of 160 sound about right?

1st win in 8 games. Came at just the right time as we could have easily come unstuck today. Macclesfield will be a very interesting game, they come with threat from out wide and that is the only area of The Shay that still has grass. (we don't use that bit). We have looked good on the few occasions we have gone 5-3-2 this season as there aren't many sides with two full backs better at getting forward. No dout it'll be 4-3-2-1 again then. We have a slim shot of the play-offs and a win against Macc is vital at keeping that alive as we often stuggle at Sincil Bank.

Was on in the background where we were, and I watched the final ten minutes intently. Found it uncanny how Macclesfield's play in that period mirrored our own style: staging an attack that's not quite good enough, passing it around to consider options/find gaps but dithering, and ending up ham-fistedly wasting it. It got to the point where you could see their Matty Pearson equivalent, or their McManus equivalent as they rolled it back and forth on the left. Considering our forward performance was actually quite convincing today, I hope this means we've passed the goal-shy bug onto the Silkmen.

Ballpark but go for it. A few of our away followings have been a bit miserable this season. Maybe we'll improve and bring a nice little entourage to our final few.

Lincoln, Barnet and us. You should bring a couple of hundred to Lincoln, and if you're still in the hunt then a fair amount to us as well I'd imagine.

Could well be up to 500 if we beat Macclesfield. Hope springs eternal!

Well, back home now with a new land speed record set...

Another roller coaster of a game like Tuesday. We were the better team throughout. It was a blow to go in to half-time level. Our on-loan goalkeeper, who was brilliant in the week, made a hash of Rooney's shot and Mahon tapped it in.

Second half, Charnock got sent off when he fouled Betsy. It was a clear penalty but the referee, who was awful, gave a free-kick. Brilliant save from the goalkeeper from it. Rendell soon got his second from a corner. Then it got really easy for us and we were knocking it around waiting for the inevitable third. Cue Chester getting a corner and scoring.

About 500 blocked shots later, Josh Payne saves the day. 30-yard volley, first time, into the top corner. Comfortably in the top three goals I've ever seen live and our goal of the season (although we've scored about five goals of the season...this season).

As for Chester, they were alright. Lightweight up top and Crowe didn't have a proper save to make all game. I was a bit worried when Hobson came on (yes, really) as they needed someone to challenge our CBs but then almost straight away they went down to ten men. Kingsley James is still the myth I always thought he was. He chased fellow England C International Payne's shadow for 90 minutes. In fairness, the other Chester midfielders I didn't even notice so clearly that didn't help at all. Goalkeeper is decent as is Heneghan. Rooney largely anonymous.

You’re being kind by saying we were alright as that was absolute garbage from us, worst performance of the season for me, nowhere near good enough. Burr’s focused on next season, he’s chopping and changing the side every week and it’s resulting in some really dismal efforts in the present. Absolutely no threat up front without McBurnie, an out of form Hughes with an out of position McConville. We ended the game with three or four way out of position and it was difficult to watch really from our point of view.

I disagree about James, he’s no myth, up until mid-January he was great but after he got sent off at Southport and we’ve brought in Abbott, he first struggled to establish himself back in the side and now really getting going again. It could work in our favour if it means we can keep him next season as Fleetwood are interested apparently. We do have a battle on our hands to keep hold of Heneghan though, he’s out of contract in the summer and there were a rift of scouts there watching him today.

As bad as we were today I do think we were slightly unlucky not to sneak something from it, you were the better side but I was underwhelmed, a really lethargic and lacklustre effort for a side chasing a play-off place. Strangely enough I thought we looked better with ten men and caused more problems when Hobson came on, he’s probably not up to this level overall but does work hard and ruffle some feathers, that situation suited his game.

It's alright, one of the wide players is Adrianno Moke. I watched him yesterday, I thought he was auditioning for a part in "Lost In Space". Failed to beat his man or fell over, every pass or cross to a Bristol player. He must the the most ineffective player in the league. Fairburn/bank is very good though, a Jack Muldoon type, the back 4/5 will need to be on their game. We'll beat them though, it's only Mickey Mouse Macclesfield. :woo:

Also worth mentioning the lovely little interview I heard from Teflon's Steve Kittrick this evening on BBC Shropshire driving back up. Getting himself fired with some of his comments, potentially? At best he's damaged himself for good. 35:30 on this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02mdp8d
"Dover are one of the poorest Conference sides I've seen"
"I've never been to a club where players just do not want to play for the club. I've asked a player to go on and he goes to me 'Why should I go on, you haven't played me.' I've never ever, in my life, managed in football and a player's turned round and done that. As far as I'm concerned he's a coward"
"I think if every manager in this league had some balls, to turn round and say exactly what [they think to the players], because they're frightened of the PFA"
"It's one thing I'd pack in football for. Player power is rubbish"

If that's true, it's the player who should be sacked, after being named and shamed. What a twat. :dk:

Christ , that really would put a rancid cherry on your shit-cake of a season .
Not sure what you're referring to, won't affect me, I couldn't care less if Grimsby, yourselves, Barnet or Billingham Synthonia won the title.

Swing and a miss.

We certainly 'weren't at our best' and the two goals we conceded were poor defensively. Yet, we still created a fair amount of chances and didn't particularly give you a look in. At 2-2, though, I didn't see us getting another.

Agreed, but can't help but think Steve Kittrick will come out with more burns. I honestly think he's a good manager and his points here are good enough.

Enjoyed the trip to Lincoln, nice city and friendly home support in what is a proper football league stadium, made better by the 3 points. There seemed to be an air of despondency amongst the home support though, and having watched the game I can see why.

It was a rubbish game tbh, the wind didn't help but neither side played the conditions well, with lots of hoofball on show. Luckily for us, Lincoln are truly shite, they had nothing up front, their no. 9 Burrows was especially poor and as a team they lacked any real fight or spirit. Our second goal was a case in point, a poor square ball followed by a powderpuff tackle and then their big no. 23 Brown was outmuscled to the ground by Kurtis Guthrie of all people, who was then brought down by Mr angry Farman.

We did just about enough in the end, profiting from a generous ref who became the first in living memory to award us 2 penalties in a game. If Parkin had scored both instead of missing the second, life would have been a lot easier as there is no way Lincoln were going to get 3. The ref then semi-levelled it up by giving Lincoln a fairly soft pen as well, which set up a minor flourish at the end, with a succession of corners putting us in panic mode.

The funniest bit of the day was seeing that fat lad on the near side of the co op stand getting so easily wound up by a bit of banter, waddling down to the barriers to gesture at our supporters trying to offer them out, what a tool.

We've got to play much better then that if we want to stay ahead of Woking and Eastleigh, we're battling away but lack the quality and will probably miss out in the end.

Christ the last five games are going to be interesting, that Alfreton goal could be pretty massive.

Think Grimsby are favourites now given their form (who'd have thought that six weeks ago?) but it's all to play for now in these last five. Depends who can handle the situation best, and with it being so tight at the top after our hardest game I still give us a chance. Suspect it will be play-offs now, but you never know.

Lack the quality? After the money you have spent, that is a pretty shocking admission IMO... :ffs: :dis:
