Can't compare teams who have won things in knockout competitions. It's far more difficult to be consistent in a league than a knockout.

Leagues are marathons compared to knockout competitions.

The title race is over imo - it's Leicester's.

The belittling of this achievemnt in this thread is astonishing though. To say its been an easy premier league this year is ridiculous. It's largely the same as the one that Chelsea won last year. Instead of the Premier League being dominated by the big clubs we are now instead seeing a more even playing field brought on by a few things:

1. Increased revenue of smaller clubs
2. Better recruitment of smaller clubs in comparisson to bigger clubs
3. Increasing evening of the playing field with advances in training, sports nutrition etc.

As for the Leicester vs Forest argument, its been raging all year and to be honest, both are fantastic achievements in completely different eras. I'd argue that Greece's Euro win is probably bigger than all of them considering how crap that side was.

It's funny that those claiming it's an easy PL this season are fans of clubs who won't be winning it. Leicester have faced all the same sides Arsenal have.

Based on budgets and squads, Leicester have no right winning the title. It's a big F U to the premier league and the clubs in it.

FairPlay to them, and it's definitely one of the greatest accomplishments in English football if they hold out to win it.

aaaaaaaaahhhhhh but Greece and Denmark had to qualify 1st..............add the 2 odds at the beginning of each process ie odds at beginning of qualification process and odds at beginning of tournament and you will find that makes a bigger odds against total................and therefore you are wrong and i resty my case.

The "Miracle on Ice" is the nickname given to a February 22 medal-round men's ice hockey game during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, in which a team of amateur and collegiate players from the United States, led by coach Herb Brooks, defeated the Soviet Union team, who were considered to be the best hockey team in the world and won every tournament previous bar 1.
Greece won in Greece. Denmark won in Denmark.

Neither qualified for their respective tournaments.

As for the Miracle on Ice, it was a 17-to-1 upset, it's nowhere near. Besides, the same thing was done in 1960, 20 years prior and the olympics only come around once every four years.

Denmark won in Sweden and Greece won in Portugal.
However, johnny's point about the fact that they had to qualify makes their achievement akin to winning a league is wrong on two counts:
Firstly, the standard of team in the pre-qualifying stage is lower than for the final tournament stage and is only 6 - 8 matches (as was the case then).
Secondly, Denmark didn't qualify by right. They were only admitted to the tournament because Yugoslavia, who had won their qualification group was in no state to take part

38 matches as opposed to 6 in a final tournament tells its own story.
There have also been plenty of worse teams in Premier League history than either Newcastle or Norwich (Villa are an extreme outlier).
I agree with Bilo that is arguably the biggest sporting upset ever, if it happens. For Leicester to achieve this over a year is immense.

I'm not sure about the relevance of that as the Soviet team were technically amateurs too and they certainly weren't paid millions.
You know that the odds of winning a one-off match even against markedly superior opposition will be lower than for someone to achieve the same consistently over a long period don't you?

The fans of Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea! That's a lot of people!
I think pre-season odds of 5,000-1 on their winning the title suggests something to me!

John Daly wins the 1991 US PGA title

Daly should never have even teed off. He was originally the tournament's ninth reserve but found himself promoted, on the eve of the first round, to first reserve after several players pulled out. Daly packed his clubs and drove through the night to reach the course - eight hours from his Memphis home - in the hope that he might yet sneak into the event. When he finally arrived in Indianapolis, a message left at his hotel informed Daly that Nick Price had withdrawn to attend the birth of his son. In Price's stead, and having borrowed the Zimbabwean's caddie, Daly (who hadn't even had time for a practice round) stormed to an astonishing three-shot victory with rounds of 69, 67, 69 and 71. 'I killed it,' he said afterwards. 'All four days, I didn't think. I just hit it. I just hit it so good, I had no fear out there...'

Leicester have it in the bag. They are still going about their business in a calm manner, and there aren't enough games left for a small dip in form to make the difference, even if that happens, unless Arsenal or Spurs can win all their games bar maybe one. And neither are playing well enough to do that.

Also, anyone who tried to belittle what a utterly amazing achievement Leicester winning the title will be can fuck right off. Like Bilo, I can't think of anything that competes with it. It's fantastic.

First of all, golf is a shit boring sport played by cnuts with really bad dress sense. I have no idea where Daly was ranked in the general scheme of golfers.
Secondly, this took place over a much shorter time period than a football season.
Thirdly, Daly just had to make sure that he himself performed. In a team sport, it's not enough for an individual to play above their perceived potential, the whole team has to do it consistently.

I take that back, don't know what flew into me.

ANYWAY biggest upset ever. Luckily Ben has been arguing my case while I was away blissfully ignorant of my 75% incorrect statement (at least Denmark didn't qualify).

You're scraping the barrel here. Horse-racing is not a sport. If he had won those races by carrying the horse on his back then I might have considered it as a worthy accolade, but not the other way around.
