It is a draft.

I guess some people do it all themselves. You can also let the website do it for you.

Last year I went halfway and set a few rules (eg. pick a QB in the first round, pick Seattle defence above any others if they're available, pick a kicker last, don't pick Tom Brady under any circumstances etc) and then let everything else be done automatically.

Set it and forget it really. It's dead easy and you'll be better off letting the website do it if you're new. I'm gonna do what I did last year again.

edit: as to when, everyone does it at the same time. So you'll need to set your rules before whenever that is. Or stay up until silly o'clock and do it live.

Well that was a little embarassing for the NFL last night with the HOF game. A league that generates billions of dollars and they can't even get an adequate playing field. As it happens I doubt either Green Bay or Indy would be too disappointed not having to play this

Yeah, HoF game seems a complete comical cock up from whoever was in charge of preparing the field.

Would imagine starters will be pleased, but I'll bet it was a lost opportunity to fringe and low picks to stake a claim.

If you need extra players in a second league I'll happily stick a team in, I've lost in PPR and 2 QB leagues before so losing in a standard scoring league wouldn't be to much of a problemo. I wouldn't be up for being an admin though.

Are folks ok with an 18 team league then? Makes things a bit more challenging in terms of plumbing the depth charts, but that's all good IMO.
