Just woke up to this news this morning, absolutely appalling. Worst thing is I'm not surprised it's happened and I'm sure there's more right wing Islamist atrocities to come.

What a sad state of affairs. A couple of days ago 40 people were killed in Beirut as well by a suicide bombing, claimed by fucking ISIS.

There was a bomb threat in the German hotel a day before the game? Surely the authorities should have taken it as some kind of warning?

Shocking, massive sympathies to all those affected.

Worst thing is I'm not surprised it's happened and I'm sure there's more right wing Islamist atrocities to come.

That's the worry, how can anyone stop it though? There's only so many terrorist plots that the security forces can intercept, more will slip under the radar.

I pray for the souls who've prematurely left their loved ones, the injured and everyone affected by this horrific tragedy. People are murdered in stomach-churning numbers everyday, but anytime my faith is deliberately manipulated to breed hate and utilised as a weapon, I can't help but feel immense pain and sadness that touches the very depth of my soul.

Innalilahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon.

I don't think this is a case of Islamic nutter head office having a think about where to go next, it's to do with where there are Islamic fundamentalists on the ground who are willing to kill. France obviously has a very large Muslim population, principally of African descent. Why would you take the risk of trying to travel to Berlin or London if you're based in France?

All just speculation at this point but FWIW, I think both sets of opinions set out earlier in the thread probably have some merit. I'm genuinely doubtful that these attacks have been committed by recent arrivals who've come here as refugees. I just can't see how there would have been time, apart from anything else. But equally, this does raise questions about the wisdom of letting people come into Europe en masse without even checking who the hell they are. I have no doubt that somewhere amongst the refugees and economic migrants there will be some seriously dangerous individuals. When we've already got a problem with Islamofascism, it seems utterly insane to say that anyone who can get themselves to Europe from a region in which Islamic fundamentalism is an even more serious issue can stay.

There will be more of these attacks. Thank fuck we're not in Schengen.

Out of interest, would this stop people visiting Paris? My girlfriend and I were talking about going in January. TBH I'd still go but she seems very cautious about it now.

Going forward, I can't help fear how long it'll be until a stadium in the UK is targeted. Especially in the lower leagues, these stadiums are soft targets, just like the restaurants and concert venue in Paris.

At football grounds, even in the higher leagues, security is not really good enough. How many times do you see flares and other pyrotechnics smuggled in? I fancy security will be beefed up in all stadiums this weekend.

Sorry to single one club out, but when I went to Oxford last season, if something occurred in that stadium, it was noticed by us that 100s of fans wouldn't have got onto the pitch/out of the ground within a few minutes.

I agree. I also believe the reason that those were let in must have something to do with migrant policies in the past.

Hint: I visited Schengen area twice and were given a 3 month visa one time and 12days visa the other time. And to get visas I had to provide my bank account details, IDs, certificate from my employer that I have a job and insurance to cover my time of visiting. I also have to prebook my flights and hotels. I also visited UK once and needed all those above except the insurance to get the visa. On the other hand, European countries are welcoming people from middle east who claim to be refugee to stay here forever.

yeah, until Tibet have conquered you, its the normal way.

furthermore they wont stay here forever, i can remember in the yugoslavian war, we accepted a lot of refugees from there at this time, but after the war ended ( or latest they turned 18) they had to go back ( thats why for example the reason why so many bosnian international footballers were born / grown up in Germany)

We fucked them well up in Mali where they had a good thing going but our troops took care of them.

We've always been the main target really. Quite a few 2nd and 3rd generation muslims (especially from North Africa) hate our country and are openly racist towards everything that is white and basically not Koran. There's an awful lot of hate in Parisian suburbs towards Parisians and the cockiness they bring (I'm not from a ghetto but I can see where they're coming from as it is quite true that Parisians can be arrogant bastards at times). As Alty said, there's more than enough people who are ready to die for some bollocks religion.

The aftermath is going to be hell. Taking the suburban train (like I do every day) is going to take twice as long and people are going to be scared. I can sympathize with that as this is not a Charlie Hebdo type attack as innocents have died. Le Parisien best sums up what has happened a few hours ago:

Gonna be a long weekend.

If the UK was a part of mainland Europe then I'm sure we'd be more at risk.
people keep saying this i don't get the reasoning behind it. we aren't the most powerful country in europe. we don't have the most muslims. we aren't involved militarilly in the most muslim countries. we don't have the highest number of DAESH members. there's no evidence supporting this assertion. i dunno if it's some kinda perverted attempt to be number one again or what

I didn't say the biggest risk, just more of a risk than what we are now.

Are you genuinely confusing the words "refugee" and "tourist"? Really?

Hopefully nothing serious but a part of Gatwick has been evacuated according to various unconfirmed reports on twitter.

' The so-called Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Paris.

In a statement published online, the jihadist group said the attacks were designed to show France it remained a "top target".

The group claims it studied the target locations and carried out the attack using "eight brothers wearing explosive belts and carrying assault rifles". '

i remain unconvinced they had anything to actually do with it besides inspiring another group. it's a pretty vague statement and i would have expected it sooner

I keep wondering why they chose to attack France again.

To follow up on Alty's point, Paris is probably the most easily accessible Capital to access that has the perfect qualities to attack.

Alty, I would travel to Paris tomorrow. It's a horrific attack but some perspective is needed, Paris holds millions of people and the only other attack of this nature was very specific. People still go to London and New York.

Need armed police patrolling all major city centres/venues at all busy times. Neutralise anyone acting suspiciously. Otherwise this will keep happening.

That sounds like an invitation for abusing power. I certainly don't want to live in a police state.

I don't think overtly displaying fear and paranoia on that scale is winning any kind of war. Events like this shouldn't alter the way we live our lives.
