To be fair the reason there’s a lot more Vale discussion is because we have a lot more fans on here than most. Got to be what 6-7 regular active posters compared to most clubs having a couple.

it's your team and so you are allowed to say the doom and gloom predictions that turned out wildly inaccurate. you finished only 3 points behind us yet wanted to claim a monopoly on wrong predictions because your team was worse than my team earlier in the season rather than later. cambridge ended up with 9-10 points more than one of your predicitions so i dont get why you are so offended because you think vale fans a melodramatic.

Not offended but if we’re being strictly fair, everyone had us to be relegated - it wasn’t just me saying that. So we were all wrong. And with good reason, teams don’t usually take 16 points from 9 games when they’ve taken 17 from the previous 30 games.

It’s fine being doom and gloom as long as it’s realistic, that’s the point. Vale fans were telling us they were certs for the drop without being remotely close.

I’m not offended. I just think you’re a bunch of drama queens.

In fairness, everyone was digging Vale fans out in League 2 because you were getting promoted one week then relegated the next.

It's probably because we have the most bipolar team. We can never either be really good or really bad. Even when we've been promoted in recent years, we've made it as difficult as we possibly could for ourselves.

We're, I think, the longest serving team in the football league to have never been in the top division. I think maybe also the team with the most amount of seasons in the next to top division without ever getting into the top division.

We've never fallen out of the league, yet never finished higher than 8th in the next to top league. We've had 2 promotions in 30 years...both from the bottom division. I can kind of understand why we're a bit up and down as a fan base.

I think I've mentioned before that I feel we have one of the most passionate fan bases in the country (aside from the North East) in terms of being bothered about our club. That's why you find quite a high percentage of Vale fans on a lot of these forums. My Vale supporting mates talk about Vale a lot in social circles but I know a lot of Stoke fans who don't even know who their players are or who they are playing at the weekend. I get the same vibes with some other teams I have visited....it's more of a hobby for some rather than a passion. Obviously that doesn't apply to those on here as everyone is clearly passionate about their own clubs.

Ah yes, I remember that season. It was the one where you were promoted in pre-season.

It was also the season we done the double over you but your regular posters on here still couldn't understand how Cambridge United were where they were after a smash and grab at your place.

We were one of the favourites due to how well we'd finished the previous season, started like a train before the wheels fell off (and then Dazzler came in a spectacularly hit back into form all be it far too late).

Yet not one Vale fan claimed we would be promoted, most fans had us in their pre season picks. We are far too pessimistic and been Vale fans far too long to ever believe Vale would live up to expectation.

That said I am glad we didn't, promotions for Vale are so rare, especially via a Wembley trip that to experience it behind an tablet/TV screen would have been gutting.

That said Trafford was a cheat code... what a keeper.

Best goalkeeper we’ve had since Jussi Jaaskelainen. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t get capped by England at some point.

Although through a screen our promotion during horrible times actually gave me something else to focus my mind on and look forward to. Lockdown would have been worse if my team bottled it as well.

Possibly but I hated every minute of it, it was kind of a relief when we did the kind thing and agreed the season to end despite our position, would have been so Vale to make the play offs and the first time at the new Wembley and not be able to go!, not being there for 18 months was the tough part as it was missing that "escapism" that watching you side getting slapped 4-0 gives you !

I always think it must have been crap for Wycombe and Morecambe fans that season, Wycombe having their only ever Championship season and Morecambe winning promotion to the highest ever level and missing out on that experience. Wycombe fans of course missed the promotion as well as it was in the Play Offs behind closed doors.

Was lucky enough to get England v Germany tickets in the Euro's and that kind of felt like the gloom of those 15-16 months was finally over. Christ I hope we don't go back there again.

Wycombe fans of course missed the promotion as well as it was in the Play Offs behind closed doors.

yeah, it was dogshit, but I guess you have to put it in perspective of how much COVID affected people in general, and if the worst way in which it hit you was not getting to watch some football matches, then I guess you could say you got off lightly (obviously many Wycombe fans probably got more seriously impacted also).

To be honest I never thought we'd get to the championship, I can't see it happening for us again any time soon but you never know.

Well having seen Cheltenham at all 3, I'd have to say old Wembley looked great from the outside, but I was disappointed once I got in. I was only 13 though, so I didn't have a drink or anything.

Millennium Stadium being right in the centre of Cardiff made it awesome.

New Wembley was impressive, but it was the one we lost and frankly it lost all lustre in that moment.

I've seen games at the Old Wembley with less than 20k to around 100k. Still the best for me but my judgement may be clouded by the likes of the '86 Milk Cup Final, England/Scotland games (including one where the idiot booking tickets got them in the Scotland terrace) and the Euro 96 group games.

New Wembley should resonate after the Play Off victory back into the FL but it just felt like another, albeit large, football ground especially with the atmosphere. I felt the same for the JPT final but the competition wasn't important tbf.

I've never gone to the Millennium Stadium as anything other than a neutral which again tbf may affect my view.

I think it helps that Cheltenham is so close to Cardiff, and winning twice there made it feel like it was a home ground - even if we were massively outnumbered by Grimsby fans in the second game.

As I said, being right in the city centre really helps it as well.

Agree with you on the new Wembley. The old Wembley at least had that feel of tradition.

Lots of boozers in the city and easily accessible from there it was great. The new Wembley was alright as a one time deal (and to be honest my view on it would be different if we lost) but everything was priced ridiculously and unless you were allocated the Green Man or Box Park I didn’t see a lot else in the vicinity pre-game.

We had both didn't we, I was in Box Park was cracking that all be it bizarre in Lee Hughes walking in wearing his match worn Vale top and start doing the Hughesy!

I used to go loads to watch England and its a cracking stadium facility wise, for example the Stade de France is miles behind as was the Bernebeu, (do like Berlin though), but its probably from a facility point of view the best in the world.

Atmosphere can be hit and miss though, England V Germany in the last 16, half empty was immense but I have been some England games when its been flat.

I met a mate in Central London. There's 1000s of great pubs and it's just a far better experience than in and around Wembley. It's also not that far on the tube from Central London. Made the right decision too as the jobsworth bouncers weren't letting anyone in over an hour before the game at the Boxpark in spite of about 40 or 50 people leaving as we walked up to it. I can never understand businesses turning away money for no apparent reason.

I actually thought the Lioness bar in the tier that we were in was class. Like a nice hotel bar but with atmosphere.

Can't really remember the old Wembley too much as the last time I went was in the Anglo Italian cup final, I think in 1995, and I was only 12 I think. Remember it looking huge though when you looked out on the pitch and Wembley Way being fantastic.
