Isn't the Robins away friendly nowadays plus the Mardyke, cottage, Rose of Denmark? I know the Cooper's and rising sun are home only and, obviously, the Lions but the rest are okay aren't they?
I've never bothered with the fanzine either TBH, if I have a beer I go in the concourse.
Never seen any away fans in the Mardyke, don’t drink in the other two. Masonic is home fans, as is The Coronation and London Inn. Best you’ll probably get is the spoons opposite the London Inn. Haven’t been in The Robins for a while but I doubt that’s away friendly is it?

The football ground guide has Rose of Denmark, and Cottage Inn as recommended for visiting fans.

Probably why we never head up that way then mate. Been in both before but tend to head elsewhere before the game.

The Knights Templar is a dream if you’re an away fan getting the train, 2 minute walk from the station.

I’ve never been in either to be fair, only been to Bristol City once and drunk in town and when at Rovers have drunk down Gloucester Road.

Been in that Knights Templar a few times, somehow managed to get lost first time looking for it as it’s tucked round the corner and out the way. Always seems to be heaving in there though.

Gloucester Road’s decent yeah, some good pubs down that way. It’s always busy with away fans on a match day if there’s a big following, we went there at opening time for breakfast and a drink the other year for an early KO against Cardiff and by half 7 it was full of them so we didn’t stay long after.

Had my stag in Bristol last year and went in there on Sunday morning before the train home and it was rammo even then.

No idea now fella, always used to be. I'm not a big drinker at football nowadays so it's either the Rising sun or the Coopers then 1 in the concourse under the South stand for me, if I bother atall.

Yeah Gloucester Road is decent. Load of boozers on one big stretch, can’t ask for more really. It takes you right into the City centre too, that’s if you can make it!

Unfortunately, Gloucester Road is also a Gas area so I don’t bother going there on match days. It’s either North Street or the fan zone for me.

Got thrown out the boozer by about 20 plod and forced to go home for no apparent reason other than being from sheffield after Bristol rovers away in the cup a few years ago on Gloucester road

Bristol has changed though hasn't it? The town is a lot more gentrified than I remember it back in the early 90s. Went to the 'new Ashton Gate' and it was a bit shit, bland stadium and lost the charm and hostile atmosphere of the old away end.

I doubt they’d have been drinking in there, if so can understand them being asked to leave as it’s asking for trouble. It’s been closed down now though.

Did you go home or just move onto the next pub?

Pathetic isn’t it. Have I ever shown you that our fans are currently suing WMP for an incident in 2015 where a group got off a train that was packed with City at New Street and were rounded up, marched to another platform and threw back onto a train to Bristol, with the reasoning being “they looked like trouble”... quite incredible.

Think stoke fans claimed compensation for something similar at old Trafford.

Why’s that? Thought that was the main Rovers haunt, must have been raking it in.

No idea mate, I’ll try and find out.

Just found an article from April 2017 saying it was sold for £245k and the new owners are keeping their plans for it secret. All a bit weird.

Bristol is a bit 'gentrified' nowadays I guess SB but I wouldn't want to be shouting my head off as an away fan around BS3, even nowadays. The city centre and area around the waterfront is a very nice place to be though.
The atmosphere will never match the old east end, that was awesome, but it's better than it was when the rebuild was completed.

Oh of course, still rather Ashton/Bedminister than your out of town grounds like the fucking Madejski.

Many good memories of being in that away end, proper ground.

Some areas have, some haven’t changed a bit. Nothing has really changed around the stadium in BS3.

Yeah the old ‘EastEnd’ is missed, but it’s the same for the majority of grounds around the country. However, I don’t think the redeveloped Ashton Gate is bland. Still has character imo

How is Bristol City a ball ache? The ground is surrounded by boozers and the waterfront is only 2 stops on the Metrobus where there are literally dozens of places to have a beer or preferably a cider.
I'm genuinely amazed by your comment Camborne.
Local knowledge I guess.
There are a good many pubs on the way up Gloucester Road, and not so many on the walk to yours (at least not on the quickest route)

Can't say I've noticed Camborne. There are plenty but maybe not on the direct route from Temple Meads', loads just off of that route but non Bristolians probably wouldn't know that.
Then again, you would have to be pissed to go to the Mem eh! ;)

Only thing is there’s nowhere around the ground other than the fan village for an away fan where you’ll be welcome really. Never been to the fan village myself but can’t imagine it’d be much fun when it’s pissing it down like it was Saturday?

"Fan village"
Does it have a pond? An idiot? Little cottages with honeysuckle growing up the walls? Herb gardens? A pub that's now been converted into a Thai restaurant? A cheerful vicar cycling around smiling at everyone? Range Rover Evoques and 13-plate Volvo estates? Tourists defecating on the green? Londoners recently moved in complaining about the smell of silage and the noise the church bell makes? Then it's not a fucking village.
