Going to be starting on some of those whiskies tonight and watch the World Series; 'mon the Cubs!!

Drink pints of pretty much anything, lager, cider, ale, Guiness.

Typically a lager drinker but tend to drink cider a lot in the summer months and it's now entering ale season for me now it's getting dark and cold.

At home I will generally buy crates of coors light, lovely when cold and is always on offer in at least one of the the main supermarkets.

I'm a sucker for a bottle of red wine too, love the stuff. Also have a couple of bottles of bourbon indoors including a southern comfort which I'll usually only use as a mixer along with vodka.

I've never got into whisky but it always looks good with some fantastic looking bottles so I want to make that my next venture. Have any of the resident scotch drinkers got any recommendations for a beginner or suggestions on how best to find my taste?

Magic I seem to recall you asking for bourbon recommendations quite a while back and you settled for Bulleit, judging by your pic you liked it enough to drink again?

Highland Park 12 is great for a starter for a single malt imo; its not too strong yet there is a lot to it in the nose, taste and finish.

Just looked it up, it's supposed to be rather smokey/peaty? I think I would be better suited to a slightly sweeter/fruitier one. I'm pretty sure I've seen this Highland Park in the pub I go to at work, I may very well give it a try when I'm next in there. Thanks!

Its very very lightly smokey, and I only picked it up in the aftertaste tbh.

Purchased a limited edition 16 year old lagavulin in Glasgow a few weeks back. Really nice but I much prefer the 8 year, which is comfortably my favourite whiskey.

Only just seen your other post about Bulleit so apologies. I do like it but that's actually the same bottle! Nearly all gone but I've had a litre of Tanqueray and a bottle of scotch since then as well (I don't drink spirits at home allll that much).

Funnily enough the scotch I have atm is Aberlour 10 and I really like it but I'm nowhere near the person to be asking for scotch advice (although if you're equally new to it, maybe it would be a good call).

I think I may go for it at £20 but will also be trying the Highland Park next time I'm in the pub.

It's a nice enough drink, given to our man of the match post-game. The Northern European lads lap it up, the Spanish boys literally lap at it once, frown, recoil and call us gilipollas.

I've enjoyed many pints of Tribute and Ringwood's forty niner, ( I took in a brewery tour one year on holiday) Ringwoods 'Old Thumper' is a quality ale too.

Tribute is comfortably one of my favourite beers, will always have it in the pub if I see it on and will always get a bottle when I get these deals.

There is a new hispster type bar opened in my building at work and have a selection of those Beavertown cans, I've had the session IPA and the smoked porter, enjoyed both I have to say.
