Bob Bradley is the reason USA are where they are.

Honestly can't see Southgate rejecting it, why stay with the U21s of offered the full side job? No logical reason at all.
Reason he's rejecting is because he knows he'll get no respect from the players or the public and will eventually get sacked and probably never get another noteworthy job in football for a long while. Smart move from him.

Fergie has recommended Big Sam for the job. Sir Alex hates the England football team.

I see the FA are going to ask Stuart Lancaster for advice - well he did manage to get England out of a World Cup at the first hurdle!

Surely asking his successor in Eddie Jones might be a better option?

But he has the "passion and can rant at the players"

TBF He might organise the defence but not sure if the current squad would accept him TBH.

I honestly don't get the 'get the respect of the players' argument with any manager. If they want a call up, they'll do as they're fucking told. Or off to bed with no dessert.

Capello tried to do that and didn't get the support of the players.

After all he banned vital things like tomato ketchup which upset the likes of Paul Robinson and Phil Jagielka..

Then we wonder why our players look totally devoid of tactical know how when it matters..

The Argentinian fans I've seen talking about him possibly being appointed coach sound gutted about it.

Imagine Bielsa trying to explain his 3313 to Rooney and Henderson.

According to some papers Klinsmann is in talks with the FA.

Bet the Sun and co are going to love potentially having a German in change of the national team!

Greg Dyke will probably explode with anger...

Klinsmann would be...interesting.

He had a big impact on the reformation of German football, albeit not quite getting the trophies to show it.

I don't know much about Klinsmann's long term impact on the German game. Doesn't it stand to reason that the team manager would have relatively little impact on that compared to, say, Chairman of the FA?

Germany overhauled their system post-Euro 2000, as I understand it. Pre-Klinsmann. Crediting him with their success since his reign seems to be confusing correlation with causation.

It sounds nice though, doesn't it?

Klinsmann is rubbish, and with our media appearing to think it's still okay to knock the odd racist/xenophobic headline, it should go down a storm.

Having recently finished reading Raphael Honigstein's Das Reboot, it seems that Klinsmann had quite a large role in the overhaul.

I suppose the difference is that, in theory, the FA should already have the infrastructure in place to see us doing much better in competitions, whereas 12 years ago, Germany didn't. Klinsmann seemingly played a big part in the changes.

On the flip side, the reviews he is getting from people across the pond are not so positive.

There is such a shortage of top class English coaches right now, it's crazy.

Fair enough. Don't suppose you could elaborate on what that was?

That oft-stated stat about us having about 3,000 qualified coaches compared to Spain and Germany's 30-odd thousand must be something to do with that, and that's partly explained by the prohibitive costs of actually taking the courses. We just don't make it easy for people to take up.

It's also hard to imagine an Englishman with a modest playing career becoming a successful manager; unlike Mourinho, Wenger, Benitez, Villas-Boas or *googles* Sampaoli. Not sure why that is - maybe English clubs are particularly sceptical environments?
