Not sure how you can even define a clubs size without involving history, so I'm going to include it anyway.
Blackburn are the biggest and then Portsmouth.
After that there is a gap and then arguably Bradford, Charlton and Wigan in no particular order.

That is very kind of you, but I cannot see us in the top five, top dozen maybe. Though we do have the potential to grow our crowd size, and our away support, given the distances, is pretty impressive.

In terms of budget, we (AFC Wimbledon) are one of the smallest. That will be the case until we move to our new ground.

We're top 2, hard to separate us and Portsmouth after both clubs have been completely fucked in the past decade. They probably edge it based on attendances alone.

Wigan are a small club. I remember the days of Springfield Park. They used to bring about 39 fans to Glanford Park. You will see. In five years they will be back to what they were.

Lol we are absolute nowhere near the smallest in the league and neither are Wigan. Im gonna list all the clubs who are smaller who haven't been mentioned yet who get smaller crowds, history records ect and if you can give a good reason why anyone of them are bigger then give us an explanation.

Bury
Walsall
Doncaster
Gillingham
MK Dons
Oldham
AFC Wimbledon
Shrewsbury
Northampton
Southend
Oxford
Peterborough
If you want an honest appraisal I'd argue that Oldham are marginally bigger than you and they've been entrenched in this league since god were a lad, they don't have the new stadium bounce you lot have but have played in the top division in my lifetime, should they ever get a sniff of success they'll get the crowds back.

Oxford, again they've been through and now they're on the up, their crowds are restricted by the fact they've only got three sides, they've again played in the top flight and reached a cup final in my lifetime.

The only thing 'big' about you lot recently was a certain Mr Evans. You are not bigger than us, similar in size perhaps, but not bigger,

We might actually nick it on recent history as well.

Fair response it's always gonna be close with us and Oldham but they have played top flight and we haven't plus they haven't got the new ground factor so you might be right there.

Not sure about Oxford though, they've played top flight but at the same time they've played non league, a place we've never been. They they have a huge catchment area though which is why they take millions to wembley so the potential is there if they get to the premier league.

Never said we we're big i said we are nowhere near the smallest in the league which is right.

If i would pick any team in league 1 who is about on par with us club size i would say Gillingham.

Missing Sheff Utd already. This thread would have been locked after one reply last season.

You dingles could only dream of being as big as us and no matter how much Peter Swann pumps in, you'll never achieve nothing in your lifetime. Silly old man.

We're a perfectly middle of the road team.

I was going to stay off this thread as it's daft and silly but how on earth is your recent history 'bigger' than ours? Cannot fucking wait to hear this...

lol, we're bigger than Rotherham, you averaged 9000 in a new stadium in the Championship,
We also have been in the top flight and won a trophy

It's not even close

We've been in that stadium 5 years, it's not that new anymore. Support has only grown since being there. Our ground holds similar amounts, you won't average 9k in the foreseeable or maybe for a very long time as you've reached your peak as a football club.

You were in the top flight when football wasn't ruled by money, you'll never be in the championship again forget about the top flight.

Our support in a small working class town surrounded by big clubs is admirable and brilliant if you ask me.

Your support and ambition in your club coming from a one club city in one of the most affluent areas of the country is quite frankly pathetic.

I actually find it insulting your try to compare your club to ours, you have been non league, we have never and never will be and your history from the 90's onwards isn't worth comparing to ours. Doesn't come anywhere near it.

Would have averaged alot more than 9k in the championship if we built a bigger stadium because we had so many sellouts. Best way to measure will be this season where we are both in the same division and see who get the highest crowds.

If you're not counting history like you said then the only things you can judge on are budget, attendance, stadium size and quality of the squad, I'd order it something like:

1. Bradford
2. Portsmouth
3. Blackburn
4. Wigan
5. Charlton
6. Bristol Rovers
7. Blackpool
8. Plymouth
9. Rotherham
10. Oxford
11. MK Dons
12. Doncaster
13. Northampton
14. Peterborough
15. Scunthorpe
16. Gillingham
17. Southend
18. Oldham
19. Walsall
20. Rochdale
21. Bury
22. Wimbledon
23. Fleetwood
24. Shrewsbury

I try to stay away from threads like this because they're pointless and meaningless and like this one, end with supporters of two small clubs arguing.

However, there is no planet in this galaxy where Wigan will ever be bigger than us. Even if you're taking history out and base it on the criteria you have, I'm still not sure where/how you place Wigan above Charlton.

Budget - Debatable. I'm not entirely sure of Wigan's finances but we have a very wealthy owner who just won't spend the money.

Attendance - we averaged roughly the same number of home fans as Wigan last season despite being in a division lower and a season ticket boycott.

Stadium size - The Valley has a bigger capacity than the DW.

Playing squad - Wigan's is better than ours but so is Burton Albion's and they're not bigger than us either.

You've also got to take in to consideration the other teams you compete with in your local area. Within 30 miles of Ewood we've got united, city, Bolton, Preston, a team I won't name, Wigan, Stanley, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale. There are other catchment areas with similar amounts of teams and some with far less which obviously has a knock on effect on the turnstiles. Some of those big clubs fans will never experience the lows that the majority of us experience, but will never appreciate it the same when they achieve something great. The fans who fork out good money to watch lower league clubs have more respect from me than anyone who thinks finishing forth in the prem is a disaster. Ask long suffering fans of Pompey, Charlton , Coventry, Blackpool, Rovers what wealthy owners can bring.
On the plus side plenty of cracking local derbys for us next season, and some horrendous away days for anyone on the south coast. First season in ages I've actually looked forward to.

This thread comes up every year without fail.

Bury are a small club fanbase wise but with a respectable history, having won this league in 1997 along with a couple of FA Cup wins.

Are you on a wind up?

Or are you a fucking moron?

(That's a rhetorical question by the way)
