We used to have the best pies in the world at the Vic , just Ginsters now .... The Crown pub in Accrington now holds the best pies in the world title ...

You didn't cancel it. We bought it out. He won every test in pre-season

He's played two games, scored two goals, one assist, leads the team well and has turned in 2 8/10 performances.

You didn't know what you had there. Maybe your pies are shit. We do beef and stardust at the Vic.:2thumb:
You bought out his contract?? I figured we would've had to pay the fat fucker off to get rid of him so that's even better! Losing him was potentially the best bit of business we did all summer if we've not even had to pay a penny.

Ibehre has scored 3 goals so he's already topping Paynter and to be honest I think everyone's still a bit in shock about Paynter getting any goals so I don't expect them to still be competing later in the season. I am certain that we've got ourselves a much better player. As for him winning all the tests, I think that must say more about the rest of your team than it says about him.

To be fair there's loads of cases in football where a player is total gash at one club and great at another. Paynter has had a mixed bag in his career but there's no doubt there's a player there somewhere.

A lot of it comes down to man management. I personally wouldn't mind a Curle type figure giving me a bollocking but it doesn't always work.

He feels he's been badly treated and he's out to prove a point. A lot of the lads we signed over the summer are the same. Ronnie wanted players who feel upset about being released or players signed from other clubs looking to further themselves in league football like Carl Magnay, Trevor Carson and Adam Bartlett. He wanted signings with that extra appetite we've not had for years. So far the signs are good and I have faith that Ronnie and the current crop can deliver.

Paynter on the face of it is exactly the kind of striker you need at this level so let's see what he does.

Agree on this point but with Paynter there's been a downhill trajectory pretty much since he left Swindon - even here he was playing alongside a certain Charlie Austin which I would imagine helped his form - as he was shocking at Leeds, average at Doncaster and then shocking for us as well as some bad loan spells amongst those.

I hope he does alright because some good stories came out of the club about him - in particular I remember someone saying how their kid met him outside the ground and got taken in to meet all the players and get his shirt signed, which at least shows he's a decent person. I don't think he'll be able to consistently perform at this level any more though.

Have you any idea what you're paying him as well? The general consensus around our club was that he was on around £2k/week but I would be shocked if you had paid him that too.

£2k wouldn't surprise me.We got rid of a lot of high earners during the summer,to be replaced by non league lads or released players,so there would have been plenty of spare cash about

Doubt he'd be on 2k. Probably closer to 1k plus bonuses

Do you think the non-league lads are cheap? Magnay had a good contract at Grimsby and really only came to us to be up north. Carson was on a big wedge at Cheltenham but wanted league football, Bartlett maybe as Gateshead's keeper but I doubt he's on Maxted's wages.

I'm not sure there's much left. Move for Mirfin suggests that.

But he's not an out and out goalscorer so you could possible credit how many goals a poacher like Austin would get with Paynter occupying markers allowing Austin to use his movement...

Either way we're not sure how it'll turn out, while I was sceptical abut him getting the armband, I think it's a result of his determination to prove his doubters wrong, being 31 he knows the game and is at the age where he's his own man. Would rather Woods got it but at the of the day he's relishing the role and doing the business so good luck to him

That's just too easy. You keep calling him fat but he simply isn't.

We've got a rejuvenated player on our hands in the fittest squad we've had for donkeys yonks. Watch him go.

Magney, will be on decent money, but the likes of Fenwick & Woods won't be.

Unfortunately, Rakish was not among the goalscorers today, but I can't help feeling that today's win was, in part, due to him simply being on the pitch. Good players tend to be an inspiration to the other not-so-gifted ones. Go lad

They must be leaving half the pitch unmanned if Billy Paynter is managing to slip into the space.
You're quite right, they leave half the pitch unmanned, and Paynter takes up the other half himself.

Apart from the two headers he's scored.

It's a wonder the big fat pudden can get off the ground, eh? :dk:

Surely to the tune of Painter Man

Either or, as long as he keeps getting those goals.

If you can fit it to Brahms Rhapsodies and he keeps scoring it's OK by me.

Would it fit to 'Fat Bloke In The Ring?' by Boney M??:cool1:
