I will be surprised if its not Brown. Bowyer would be a good shout if we have money to spend (which we probably dont). Most of the other out of work Managers horrify me especially Allen.

No to Rudge as well, what he did for us in the 90's will probably never be matched at the club and I would be all for him being given some sort of role at the club (ambassador/president etc) but not with regards to the management side of things.

Every time our manager role comes available fans clamber for ex managers or ex players to be appointed but we need to move on and bring fresh faces in

At this level I would say having contacts can be beneficial. In recent years because of his football contacts, Lee Power (our chairman) has managed to get decent loanees from Premiership sides. This season the lads we had from Liverpool were very unlucky with injuries but I think at one stage or another this season, all of them appeared in the Liverpool first team this season, which shows we can get decent young loanees in. Brad Smith who we had on loan the season before last is back up to Moreno as LB at Liverpool. Mason and Pritchard at Spurs another 2 that we have had recently.

Ok, they won't always work, but we have had more success than failure with our signings since LP came in.

Dan, feel free to shoot me down!
Can't argue with that - Mason has played for England since his loan with us! Some of Power's 'punts' have been strange on occasion - God knows what Bangoura was about.

But on the whole as a chairman who is responsible for recruitment he's done pretty well.

Think he may surprise a few this close season.

Allens a bit of a joker isn't he so might get on well with the likes of Dodds etc who are known for that in the dressing room. Not ideal though.

Brown to oversee player negotiations and to assist in selecting the new manager (much in the way Marc Richards assisted Cobbles chairman)

Assume this may mean Brown is to be number 2 and to advise on a new boss. May give us hope of a decent candidate.

judging by the statement from the club maybe Brown isnt the next manager. Gareth Ainsworth could be a possibility?

you dont rate him then?

I'm not a huge fan no  I don't think Wycombe fans rate him either particularly!

Known for playing quite dull, long ball football, with a lot of petty antics from his players (diving, time wasting etc.). He gets results with that style at times but I get the impression Wycombe fans are now bored to death of it.

He's used to working on low budgets though at Wycombe if you believe him, and he gets okay league finishes, so he does a job I suppose. Wycombe also got to the play-off final last season, but that's the only real success they've seen under him.

We will end up with Warnock, Brown as his assistant.

Warnock wants to join a Championship chasing for promotion, which is what I said.

What don't you get?

You are definately a product of Burslem.

Not always had that mentality has he?

And no, I'm not a product of Burslem

Judging by those comments, it looks like Warnock is thinking about retiring at the end of next season. Which isn't surprising given that he's 67.

I've got to agree with SERNWA on this one though, if he takes any job, it'll be in the Championship. He hasn't managed in L1 since the 90s. Plus his salary demands will be way above what Smurf could afford I reckon.

there is something seriously wrong if he gets a 3rd go

Agreed, I can't believe the idea of going back to that sort of dinosaur football again is a serious option. It would make zero sense which pretty much guarantees that's what Smurthwaite will end up doing.

He's said all along he'd stay with us or have a crack at breaking the record for number of football league promotionswith a championship club and then retire. This would be his last season as the season falls over the period when he's wifes having her last bout of treatment for cancer.

He's categorically stated he won't drop any lower, so why the fuck Port Vale fans think they have a chance is beyond me.
