Burton Albion as an away day

Away support has been restricted, I think for safety reasons for all way supports this season.

The irony being all three August home games are on sale and none have sold out, the first two nowhere near as I understand it. Basically 1400 away tickets have (or will) be snapped up and we'll struggle to sell roughly 2000 general sale home tickets all season bar probably the Derby, Villa and Newcastle games.

Can't remember if I've posted in this thread or not, but I think Burton is quite overrated as an away day. Trains are fairly cheap from London, granted, and probably even cheaper from the Midlands, but the stadium is a mile from the station down that god awful never ending straight road and when you get there, there's very few decent pubs. We went in the Railway a couple of times, but it's meh. The city centre is also a fair walk from the station, but does have a better range of pubs, granted, although you then have to get a cab from the centre to the stadium which is more £££ to lamp out.

In short, I don't actually like it very much as an away day. That being said, it doesn't matter to me now because we're three divisions apart . Good club though, hope they do well in the Champ.

I must admit I wasn't impressed when I went three years ago.

There's nothing much in the immediate vicinity, and it is a long walk from the train station. Town centre is in the opposite direction too, so if coming by train and you go into town then a taxi may be best bet.

It is a small town, so realistically one shouldn't expect too much, especially if you're coming from big cities like Sheffield or Newcastle.

The Cooper's Tavern is a great pub near the station though, and I am sure there are one or two others.

The Football Ground Guide website gives a few suggestions too.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Coopers shuts for some of the bigger games. They don't like football fans (rowdy ones anyway) too much.

Just picked up 2 tickets for our game there on saturday. 20 quid very reasonable for championship football - and a terrace too!

Sounds like your trip to Burton was identical to mine got off at the station and asked locals where the ground was to be told it's 40 minute walk. That road is never ending!

There's a trading estate literally a stone's throw away from the ground on the other side of the road from the ground, you can't miss it. Cost about £3 IIRC.

If not, go back up that road and there's a side road on the opposite side of the road from the McDonalds where he can park his car. About 10 minutes from the ground, and the dedicated away boozer is on route, which is where we went to get a drink pre-match.

If you like proper old school boozers with top notch real ale turn right out of the station and right again onto Cross Street and the little boozer down there, Coopers Tavern, is immense.

Stay in there and get a taxi up.

Never really understood why real ale fans feel the need to force it down everyone else's throats.
If you like it great, but other than a few pale ales, I can't stand the stuff.

I just find it hard to believe anyone who describes Carling as decent, let alone superb!

everyone to there own i say. plenty of drink on offer now, far more than 10 year back. must say camra should recognise lager more, some quality independant small breweries like camden and stancil doing good lagers
