In the last 6 seasons we've now drawn Wycombe in the 1st round of this cup 50% of the time.

Sheffield United away for us. Atleast we won't have to worry about a cup run
Its a big club away which will please some and the fact it's so recent, some fans might not bother. Be nice to turn them over but can't see it happening.

It feels like 100% of the time. Uninspiring for both sides. Cup runs have been in short supply at San Sixfields so would be a welcome financial boost if we can get one this season.

Baaadiff away for us. Local which is good but one we will probably lose. We have just arranged a PSF against them too!

Harrogate at home, who we also play in pre-season. Our first home tie since 2017 and the first time we'll have played a professional game against them.

As the Northampton fans have already said, it’s a dull draw for both sides - but meh, it’s not like the initial rounds of this competition are ever really likely to throw up an interesting draw.

Maybe I would have gone if we bagged the plum draw that is Bromley away, just out of novelty value, but other than that these fixtures aren’t expected to be much other than pure duty right now.

Made me laugh when one of them doing the draw picked out Wycombe v Northampton as his standout tie of the southern section

:bl:

I did get confused though, didn’t bother to read the thread title (duh) and thought we were talking about the BDSM trophy rather than the league cup. Must…engage…brain.

So actually it is a worse draw than I thought. Especially if we go straight out, as we so often do in cup competitions.

Walsall away so grateful in this instance that it's on Sky.

We had all four ties at home last season so can't complain about an away tie.

Not bothered if we go out seeing as our run in this may have contributed to our loss in form in the autumn, not to mention Mitchell getting injured against Middlesbrough which ended his season

Birmingham at home. Could give us an early indication of where we are at as expect them to be pushing for top 2 but in reality I wouldn't expect either team to take the match too seriously

I completely forgot that they're all to be on sky. Either way, I'll be at Bramall Lane.

Newport at home, for once for us a home draw and a tie that is winnable.

Mansfield at home....Think we will make 10 changes from the team that started at Orient. Only imagine Iredale who had a mare will start at lwb instead of lch.

Gk Southwood
RWB Desmond
RCH Forrester
CH Firino
LCH Johnston
LWB Iredale
MF Dempsey
MF Morley
LW Ndululu
CF Adaboyejo
Rw Mcatee

If Lolos is ok i expect Adaboyejo to drop out and Mcatee slot in the central role and lolos then taking Mcatee place on the right

Result does not matter, mins do

Scrub that Forrester has fallen downstairs at home.....Needing Emergency surgery on his foot
Hope we see him again this season

I’m expecting we’ll put out an entirely different squad also, fringe players and dev squad kids.

But that’s a good thing, it may be a crap competition yet it does give sidelined players and kids a chance to break into the first team, and it’s competitive football that (semi) matters (as opposed to endless friendlies).

QPR.

Minutes in the legs and all that I guess, look like we need it.

Hoping Clough plays everyone on the bench from Saturday, not too bothered about this just want to avoid injuries.

Oh wait - this is the league cup not the BDSM thing, in which case maybe a bit less rotation, save the full on dev squad players for the Tinpot.

Walsall away tomorrow. We’ll probably rotate some but we won’t make wholesale changes, mainly because we don’t have a massive squad. Woods is serving the last of his 3 game suspension, but I can see us giving a start to Watts at RWB and Alli up top instead of Magennis. We’ll probably also give minutes to Fitzwater and Purrington.

2-1 win

Sounds like Nathan Jones doesn't take cup competitions too seriously which is a shame as we've had so little to get excited about the last 20 years that the odd run in the cup have been highlights.

That being said we actually have quite good squad depth so could still field a half decent team if he goes for wholesale changes.

Sheff U away. Parky saying he's going to make changes to give lads who didn't play as the weekend some minutes.

We've got 15 fit senior players to face Blackburn, 3 of whom are goalkeepers, and will try to save almost all of them for this weekend's trip to Blackpool.

Don't imagine us going up or down this year so a cup run would be nice. It's a shame we've drawn about a hard a draw as we could in Sheff United away.

Wellens has said most of our players on the bench Saturday will start, ideally he needs the win to add money to the budget........

I would expect it to look very different, but still strong....The depth is great!

He could change the whole defence and midfield and still have:

Bolton, Brunt, Scarr, Boyle, Revan

Jones, Evans, Rathbone
