1-0 down sounds a shocker! Aidan Stone booting a clearance against his own man into the net

Sounds like standard Vale in the League Cup, we just don’t mix well with this competition. Just get out the night without any injuries. Robinson by all accounts putting in a good performance, was probably the one bright spark at Exeter too.

Good exercise for us, minutes into players. Won’t lose any sleep over that to be honest.

Brizl City (H) for us. A reasonably interesting draw given the slim pickings on offer, but presumably that means we’ll just be going straight out.

Why do we always get such dreadful draws? A 500 mile round trip just after getting back from Accrington

Mk Dons at home.

Shame it wasn’t away in terms of a local trip .

Southampton at home. We’ve never played them in our history which now only leaves Liverpool who we’ve never faced.

Everton at home, terrific draw which should result in a full house. One of my pals already asking me to get him a ticket - and he's a blue

Oddly if we’d won and Stoke won we’d have faced off in round 2!

They made 11 changes we made 8, sums up this once decent competition
I said the same on this thread before. It needs going in the shit bin. It’s not what it was.
The competition should be axed - and I’ve read it probably will be anyway. It was a great cup but alas no more.

It’s only going to shit because teams are making it shit by not giving a shit.

I hope it doesn’t get axed, just fuck off the Pizza Cup instead.
That won’t change. Fa cup and the league matters - teams don’t care about the league cup until the semis.
The pizza cup is fine, if they do away with the group stages and have straight knockout plus fuck off the under 23s.
Why remove a competition that is one of the best chances for a league 1 or 2 club to go to Wembley ?

Yeah, you need good fortune, pleased for Scott Brown. Expect a 2nd round exit, interestingly enough we drew Everton 2 years ago at home in this competition. Got stuffed 5-2 , Jordan Pickford had an absolute shocker. It was in the middle of the pandemic so zero crowd, hopefully make up for it this time

The one time this competition would have drawn interest for us and probably been on TV and both Vale and Stoke fuck it up.

Staffs dibble must be pleased at not having to pay the overtime I guess.

Villa at home happy with that, be interesting to see what team they put out but we will give them a game no matter. Should be a good crowd on too. When do they decide the games scheduled for TV?

Whilst they might be experienced, they're certainly not good enough. Of the 11, Southwood, Raglan and Bonds are the only ones I'd consider starters for a league game. Raglan is not good enough, but better than the backups. Arguably, Ferry will become one as well, but he only signed yesterday.

Of the rest:
James Taylor - young loanee from Bristol City making his debut, will be lucky to make the bench again
Grant Horton - reserve player who will probably make the bench again but won't start
Tom Bradbury - big summer signing from Halifax, hasn't made the bench in the League yet
Dan Adshead - I thought he would be a first team player, but was his full debut last night
Ellis Chapman - Seems to think he's made it because he signed a new deal in the summer, has only been a sub in the League
Charlie Brown - A waste of money, MK Dons saw us coming. Don't think he'll ever score a goal for us.
George Lloyd - Been on the periphery for years now and doesn't look like he's going to break through - certainly not a player to lead the line.

All of these should be replaced on Saturday. Our first 11 is ok for League One, what's concerning is the backups are so far off the pace that a few injuries could be devastating to us.
We still ran you ragged when Alfie May & Liam Sercombe and the likes came on.

We have to go past Aston Villa who are in the Northern section to face Walsall in the Southern section.

Ridiculous.

Same result though
I will have a £100 bet with you now that it will not be 0-7, or 7-0 or any other instance where one of the teams scores 7.

We still ran you ragged when Alfie May & Liam Sercombe and the likes came on.
They came on when we were 6-0 down - what were you expecting them to do, run around like blue-ass flies trying to get a goal back.

It's actually another criticism of Elliott that he brought them on when the game was so clearly lost and all it was doing was running the risk of them getting injured.

On the bright side the lardies went out, would have been worse had they got through and we'd have had them but got knocked out!

Imagine Portsmouth rolling up on the Saturday to find the Hamil is now a terrace with no toilets though so probably for the best!

Can't fault the draw for us, Home tie against lower division opponents.
