Fair enough, hopefully our fans find the interest to come out in numbers, if for the occassion rather than the opposition, its in theory on the biggest games in our history being only our second quarter final in any of the two major cup competitions.Sold out their allocation of 1300 in a few hours. On the day only 1000 turned up, I think this was due to many snapping up tickets for loyalty points.
I'm sure they could double that for a trip half the distance and a quarter final.
Not a chance we sell out for that… with all due respect to them it’s not enticing at all. Lucky if there’s 6-7000 there and probably won’t even open parts of the ground.
It’s winnable but more likely than not we go out with zero money made and no big tie.
Our fans are more confident than I am on that so will have to see, maybe the initial disappointment clouded my view on that. You won't sell out for a Lg Cup quarter final?
That would be terrible as it isn't as if you make quarter finals on a regular basis! The opposition for this for the home sections shouldn't matter as it is a quarter final of a major cup, even if somewhat devalued now.
Its winnable and I have warmed more to the idea of the opportunity we have with that draw I guess, I have seen us beat plenty of Championship sides with us as both a League One and League Two club so no reason we can't add another I guess.Erm let me point out we beat boro away in the quarter final.
I was there.
They can be beaten.
We calculated our run to be worth £750k. So it’s worth it.Its winnable and I have warmed more to the idea of the opportunity we have with that draw I guess, I have seen us beat plenty of Championship sides with us as both a League One and League Two club so no reason we can't add another I guess.
Exeter pushed them all the way (shame it could have been a guaranteed L1 semi finalist!) so lets give it a go and see what happens, if we do win then its a two legged tie on TV twice so bigger ££££
Think we've just got to make the best of it, very few of us were alive or old enough to remember the last time we got this far in one of the major competitions and we all hear about the "Iron Curtain" legends of 1954 who made the FA Cup Semi (they won the third tier North as well) and have the statue to one of that side images and stories so it is chance to get close to living that experience and may not come around for another 70 years so could be a once in a lifetime thing for us.We calculated our run to be worth £750k. So it’s worth it.
At this point I think if we get to the semi finals they will probably move a Premier League Tie and put that on instead! We all know how it works by this point, was never going to be any other way. Guess anyone wanting to watch our game will have to do the VPN and ESPN+ job.
Our game was broadcast live in Denmark if that helps. We all know how it works by this point, was never going to be any other way. Guess anyone wanting to watch our game will have to do the VPN and ESPN+ job.
Yeah ours was on Bein sports I think in a few countries. Our game was broadcast live in Denmark if that helps.
It would be a disappointment if we didn't sell out, but 6-7k would be pathetic. Absolutely no chance that's all would turn up. Quarter final for potentially the only time in our life, with a chance to get into the semi final of a major competition? Regardless of opponent, every one that has ever called themselves a Vale fan should be desperate to get there to watch this one. Capacity for home fans is 12k (+3k away) so I can see it being a complete sell out. I'd say 10k home fans minimum, so long as they sort a temporary measure for the Paddock toilets, or bring the work forward that was due to start in Jan.Not a chance we sell out for that… with all due respect to them it’s not enticing at all. Lucky if there’s 6-7000 there and probably won’t even open parts of the ground.

We've not played Boro since we were relegated from the Championship in 99/00, but I know enough about them to know they'll 100% sell out the 3k tickets they'll get. If they had the Hamil like seasons before they'd sell the 4k available in there, no problem. They'll see this as a massive opportunity to get into the Semi final. I think a few Vale fans are massively under estimating the enormity of this game. Wonder if it's an age thing, younger fans don't value these competitions anymore. I was disappointed we only got 9k home fans for the play off semi, but if we don't get that many as a minimum I'd be embarrassed. We should get over 10k home fans, but given the size of the game, regardless of any other circumstances, we really should sell out.The problem with these next round of league cup games there just a week before Christmas where people are either skint or saving there money for the Christmas holidays. Middlesbrough are a decent sized club so is imagine they will sell 2500 or so to vale on a Tuesday night. Surely the 7500 home fans vale got against Bolton the other week would go to this game, so there's a good chance you will get 10k in.
Its hard to say, if we got 9k home fans for the PO Semi why would we get more for this in theory? Midweek before Christmas and people will be at work so I think its optimistic but I guess we've not had this situation before in our lifetimes to know so could be wrong. We've not played Boro since we were relegated from the Championship in 99/00, but I know enough about them to know they'll 100% sell out the 3k tickets they'll get. I hope I am wrong and I will secure my seat as soon as they are available but just not sure its going to catch the imagination of the casual fan especially if they need time off work or are skint pre xmas, add in we have now 4 home games in about 13 days now as well.I think a lot comes down to how people don't value cup matches anymore, which is sad. But for a club like us this is a huge match. We've not been in a quarter final in my lifetime, probably never will again, and have an outside chance of making a semi final. Just baffles me. Let's see how sales go closer to the time, might be wrong and tickets fly out.
Surely if moneys tight and you're having to pay for one of those 4 games, you're choosing the quarter final of a major cup competition?I hope I am wrong and I will secure my seat as soon as they are available but just not sure its going to catch the imagination of the casual fan especially if they need time off work or are skint pre xmas, add in we have now 4 home games in about 13 days now as well.
I was more think ST holders, pricing will be key on this I think.Surely if moneys tight and you're having to pay for one of those 4 games, you're choosing the quarter final of a major cup competition?
Vale have certainly struck lucky with standard of opposition in this comp so far to get into a quarter final!
This would be the only game they'd have to pay for, already paid for the other 3.I was more think ST holders, pricing will be key on this I think.
Exactly! This would be the only game they'd have to pay for, already paid for the other 3.
We’ve had a decent set of ties for progression but to be fair Mansfield away who were unbeaten and Crewe are having a decent season. All be it Sutton probably gave us the hardest time!Vale have certainly struck lucky with standard of opposition in this comp so far to get into a quarter final!
Its still all lower league opposition apart from Fleetwood though. Cant think many teams have got to the quarters without playing a Champ side on the way. Can only beat what’s put in front of us, if we do go out I would rather we’d had a big boy and gone out earlier. Its still all lower league opposition apart from Fleetwood though.
