Harrogate away.

Taking the fucking piss this!

So much for the new 'all positive from now' HG.

But yeah what a shit draw to get them away and also in the EFL trophy. We have to beat these c***s sometime though.

Well the season hasn't even kicked off yet and you're expecting us to lose to shitty L2 opposition.

Not so positive from you is it? Which is what you said you were only going to be this season.

Ooh yes just seen that, another one where it would be better to have each others fixtures. We'll give you a wave as we pass each other

We’ve drawn them in four of the past 10 seasons and we spent two of those in the National League.

Drawn away (quelle surprise) at Barcelona, sorry Notts County. Should be a cracker.
Of course we are - not even worth discussing whether we're going to be home or away in cups.

EDIT - Just read it's the 19th away tie in the last 22 in the League Cup...!

Can't wait to get the sleeper train back from Plymouth. Last six trips to Home Park have been Tuesday nights for us now.

Franchise (A) - FFS, I thought we'd got rid of them.

We haven't taken a cup competition seriously for many seasons - when you can't even be arsed to field your full first XI v Man fucking City at the Etihad then you know your manager hates cups.

Don't know if the change of manager will bring a change in attitude towards cups, but I suspect not since our chairman is all bullish about promotion and such (however unrealistic that may be) so I guess that cups are seen as weakening our chances.

Unless we sign spectacularly well though (unlikely), I can see us finishing mid-table this season, what with having a total rookie manager and all.

In which case I'd actually quite like a cup run, but I doubt I'll get it.

“Shitty L2 opposition”. Nice and humble that.

There does seem to be a lot of miles being travelled. I would advocate a further regionalisation at this round, would help with travelling and the carbon footprint (if the EFL bothers with that sort of thing).
OK, we will risk playing the same old sides but I'll take that

I think they’re reasonable choices to be fair, I doubt you get many neutrals watching early round Carabao Cup games in any case.

Well I won't be getting a Now pass for that one.
Would have thought Gillingham v Southampton was a better choice, but what do I know ‍♂️

Our fixture is way better than the Wrexham one. Biased perhaps but it’s local and a ex prem team.
Theirs is just one because the owners might be there and there is a media love in.

Wrexham are on live just because it's Wrexham.

Cup competitions have lost any credibility for me, even the FA Cup.
Even if you draw a big club the chances are they will play youngsters and fringe players against L1/L2 opposition.
Not like the old days when you saw all the stars as squads were a lot smaller

I used to feel like that, but last year was brilliant. Beat Championship QPR and PL Brighton, culminating in a quarter final at Old Trafford. If you can get a run, you can have some good nights.

Yep, I am still disappointed that we lost at Oxford in the Cup weeks before beating them in the league, as I would have loved to have seen us play Arsenal. The year before we lost to Cambridge who then went on to beat Newcastle.

I expect us to lose, it's Harrogate, we could play the best football ever seen at this level with 99% possession and 30 shots on target and they'll still win 1-0 with a freak deflected own goal. Good that we don't have to play them in the league but being drawn against them in both the EFL cup and trophy is taking the piss.

Agree it’s taking the piss and is just our luck. It’s a shit away day and a shit away end. Couldn’t give a fuck about the trophy match, they could tank us 10-0 for all I care. Only thing I want from that game is no injuries.

The Carabao cup game I fully expect us to win. Yes it’s a crap away day and they are a bogey team but we are a league above them now and should have some better quality players in by then. They were down the bottom end of league 2 last season and possibly will be this season. I expect us to go and stamp authority on them and get the win. If we don’t I’ll be disappointed, i’m sick of going out of the League cup in round 1.

Very excited for our first game of the season against Fleetwood on Tuesday…!

For us this has a fair bit more importance than would normally place on it after today. Personally I’d be looking at giving Arblaster, Chislett and Thomas all a good go in this one. They actually all looked pretty useful when coming on today so as far as I’m concerned give them the chance to earn the starting roles after some of those today didn’t exactly advance their cause.

Away to Leeds United.

Hopefully we don’t risk any of our key players and we give run outs to the players that were on the bench today. Either way, I struggle to see us get through.

Leeds 3-1 Salop

Thomas looked very good, loved the run from one area to the other before eventually they got to him just in time but was very direct and rapid.

Not overly arsed about the competition but we really need to put in a solid performance to settle the nerves ahead of the weekend.

Hopefully Balmer is fit as he looks a prospect and need some defensive options.

Probably get minutes into Wilson as well.

Crawley at home. Sadly it doesn't look like they are a complete basket case as they beat Bratfud today.

Think we will rest Carroll and will make a few changes so might be a tight one, though a repeat of last seasons first round would be welcome!

Leicester at home on the tellybox.
Will see how they fare today but it’s a tough game for sure, unless they rest and rotate the squad. Although we have good form in this competition and have beaten many champ and prem teams over the years.
