Very excited for our first game of the season against Fleetwood on Tuesday…!

For us this has a fair bit more importance than would normally place on it after today. Personally I’d be looking at giving Arblaster, Chislett and Thomas all a good go in this one. They actually all looked pretty useful when coming on today so as far as I’m concerned give them the chance to earn the starting roles after some of those today didn’t exactly advance their cause.
Well I expect a big reaction from your lads after the weekend. I honestly don't know what to expect, game time for other squad players, extra time penalties...may the best team win

If there isn’t a reaction of some sort then I would suggest being a professional footballer is not for them in all honesty. Not so much winning the game as you’ve got a good team but the performance needs to be exponentially better than that second half abortion on Saturday at the least.

I think now in the League Cup they’ve abolished extra time and it goes straight to pens. At least I hope so given how long the games already are now with how they’ve changed how they do stoppage time. Wouldn’t be leaving much before midnight if there were.

Not really arsed about this competition and I expect we'll go straight out, but it's a shame that it would be to Franchise.

To me it's not a local derby and never will be, but I have to begrudgingly admit that to many of our fans (especially the younger ones) it is.

Plus there must surely be the desire to show that we're considerably less shite than we were in the first half of Saturday's game.

Newport away. A chance to get some minutes for the new signings and some of the youngsters. With Chelsea and Spurs entering in the second round a bit of incentive to get through. As much as the cup doesn't inspire, the quarter final against Man U last season was one of our most memorable games of the last decade

Swansea away. Expecting to lose. Just looking to get through it without additional injuries.

Away to Plymouth, could be one of our lowest ever away followings, more so now that the sleeper train back was cancelled from service because of the ASLEF overtime ban, a fair few of us were gonna get this but have now pulled out. Only real saddos like me will still be going.

Third time in nine years we've drawn Plymouth away in the first round too.

Wellens will rotate the team and to be honest as long as we don't pick up any more injuries I doubt many will care how we lose this.

:bl:
That’s quite the curse - it’s an awful choice at the best of times given it’s feckin’ miles away, it’s not a glamour draw, and 9 times out of 10 they’d beat you (at least given the recent relative fortunes of the two clubs, even though Argyle have been shite in their time too).

Is that dedication, or stupidity. Treat yourself with a night off.

Away at Notts for us.

Not entrely sure what kinda side we'll go with, it'll depend if we have enough numbers to move the squad around and I'm not sure we do tbh.

In these sort of games we'd usually rest Jackson but we don't have any other available defenders. We might see a change in midfield, perhaps one out wide and that'll be about it unless we call on some of the young lads to fill spaces.

I don't usually bother with this but Saturday makes this quite a big game now as we can't afford a follow on performance from that second half and result.

Injuries may mean we have to stick with some of that back line, Mitch Clarke limped off who was our best player first half and we don't really have another option but to stick Sang there who was a disaster. Would bring in Iacovitti and hopefully Lowe is fit.

Would love to see Arblaster and Thomas come in as they looked exciting when they came on late Saturday so this is an ideal chance to get a proper look.

That said where we would normally make 7 or 8 changes for this I don't think we can now, a really bad performance/result tonight and things will start to look very ropey for Crosby.

As expected a few changes like Arblaster, Chislett, Iacovitti and Thomas all starting. Ordinarily you would say this was changes to rest a few but those who played Saturday forfeited any right to start so do well tonight and they should all stay in the team. Not a fan of Plant at RWB, it’s not his position but needs must for one night I guess.

Given the slew of new summer arrivals, I’m not sure what our best starting XI is (and I suspect Bloomfield doesn’t know either yet, with some unproven loanee kids), but we’ve seemingly gone with a strong starting line-up.

Probably the right call, given the gloom around Saturday’s shambles, but the flip side to putting out a decent line-up is that there’s nowhere to hide if it goes tits up.

We’ll see.

The standard of refs is diabolical. You have to laugh because it's just absurd.

Having the better of the game, but Crawley scored whilst we were waiting to bring on a sub. Such is life.

We just can’t defend any crosses into the box. Going to be a long season I think.

well blimey, 2-0 up. we may actually win a cup game. (yes, yes, we're perfectly capable of pissing away a 2 goal lead)

A cup game?

Who is Matt Bloomfield and what has he done with Wycombe Wanderers.

Very comfortable 2-0 at Notts County tonight. We went strong with our line up, but we don't have depth to make too many changes (did make 4? from Sat), but very straightforward, and could/ should have been more. Expected far more from Notts.

Ok my start of season optimism is beginning to wear a bit thin.

Some concerning signs.

Much more enjoyable than Saturday for sure. There are still some very worrying signs defensively and but for Ripley at the end pulling off a couple of worldies we might not have won. Going forward though I liked what I saw. Chislett and Thomas were very impressive and caused Fleetwood issues the whole time they were on the pitch.

Looking dodgy for a bit, but class shone through in the end.
Watch us draw Port Vale in round two
