Yeah, he made out like we were competing against Real Madrid, then 12 months latter we offered Rayners a better deal than the one you offered him. Stay clear of Davis.

Thank fuck for that!

To be fair the deal you offered Raynes was on better terms, not sure about money, probably about the same because we're normally on the same financial level as you and next season we'll surely be on a lower financial level than you. Maybe we just valued Devitt more than Crewe did.

That sounds a bit more interesting that most of the lower league journeymen and former players we've been linked with so far.

I wouldn't be happy exactly with Bentley as manager, he doesn't play great football and would probably strip any creativity out of the squad (apart from Devitt) but part of me thinks, if things are looking that bad for next season, might as well skip the part where we try something different and go straight to the firefighting appointment, though Bentley wouldn't be an option mid-season unless Morecambe sacked him, which is unlikely. At least Bentley now would be better than someone like Graham Westley or Russel Slade in January.

It is a gamble and you are right there is no guarantee the scottish market has anyone, but the harsh fact is since i went in 1988 i don't remeber carlisle EVER looking at the Scottish market.

its as if the entire football landscape in Scotland is simply not work a look, it could be worthless, but maybe for once worth trying...................just as long as it never ever ever again is the Irish route....don't care if that sounds racist, but the irish spells with Collins and Kavanagh should remove any chance of anyone Irish ever being manager here again.

I miss them days when Roddy Collins went down the Irish route.

At least they were entertaining, player troubles off the pitch, for example Roddy chasing after a group of players who he caught having a night out on the town before a match day. lol

The point I guess is we could have afforded Devitt, but Davis was a shite salesman of the club, and as soon as his piss poor attempts at recruitment failed he then made out every other club was bigger/richer than us. The prick is definitely after a job, I hope to god your chairman rips his cv up should it land on his doorstep.

I’d be very surprised if Peter Murphy hasn’t applied for the job

I wouldn't want to see him sully his legend status with a failed attempt at managing us, a la Jack Lester at Chesterfield.

I'm sure if, to pick a random Irish manager, Martin O'Neill applied for the job we'd be crazy not to even interview him :P

Like most of the unpopular owners down here, ours have a knack of making strange decisions. Literally nothing would surprise me.

I think Jimbo is leaving us, certainly sounds like it. He said before the Cov game that he wasn't sure if he'd still be here next season, which usually means they are off. He deserves an opportunity higher up the card as everyone knows he's been working with nothing since forever. Be interesting to see how he works with an actual budget.

The amount of crap he's had to put up with upstairs with the ownership bollocks who can blame him for having enough? It's probably the right time for him to go, we need someone coming in from the outside and totally shaking everything up, but knowing our board they'll probably promote Stuart Drummond which would be a disaster.

I can't think of any situation where a young inexperienced manager has come in and done well at a struggling club.

Michael Flynn came in when we were 11 points adrift in March 2017.
Lou Macari did it with us, we were a nothing team , struggling in division 4, four years later, we were a established team in division 2, having won promotion 2 years on the trot, good cup runs, attendances soaring and a feel good factor to boot.
We have had a run of ex players come to us and have really been a success, Ardiles, Hoddle. Wise and di Canio.

If Curle gets the Bury job I’m pretty sure he’ll sign Adams.

Curle is a steady manager, he’ll get you organised, particularly away from home where you’ll no doubt win more than you’ll lose.

It’s the tedious boring football at home that got me wanting a change of manager.
We don’t want Adams been here twice and the last one he was woeful, keep him

What's this obsession with Ian Atkins on this board? He managed us for one, fairly forgettable, season, yet I get the impression from the number of times I see him invoked by other fans that you all see him as our version of Martin Allen at Barnet.

Before he copped out for his cushy scouting roles, he was the lord and master of the lower league relegation dogfight. You knew you'd get shite football but he'd sort out any defence and grind out the results.

Would Kevin Ellison not be considered?

lol Raynes is shit though and because of that we blew promotion last season.

I wouldn't say he's shit. I would say he should stick to what he's good at, heading and blocking, think we tried to get him to play out from the back which totally scrambled his confidence, that and having a mare when you dicked us 5-1 at home......

5-0

We tried to get him playing out from the back too. When he joined us there was a video of the new players introducing themselves to the squad and Raynes' intro was 'I'm Michael from Manchester, I kick it and head it', straight and too the point, yet he reacted positively to Curle's plan for us to play out from the back saying he didn't enjoy playing in negative defensive teams so much and from now on it would be 'no more boomsville'.

Could have done with a bit more boomsville.

Sorry, I forgot we got 0 out of that encounter. I was going on holiday that day, you were 1-0 up when I boarded the plane, I text a mate at the match to keep me updated with what happens, 4 hours later when we landed in Gran Canaria I switched my phone back on as soon as I could, it was none stop beeps as the texts about the goals conceded came through. Good holiday though.

Bookies favourite David Hopkin has just won his second successive promotion with Livingston. They won today’s playoff final to win promotion to the Scottish premier league.

This surely will rule him out of the Carlisle job. He’s bound to get better offers after the job he’s done there. 3rd lowest budget in the Scottish Championship Livingston have.

He’s the guy I wanted, but we really needed them to lose today for us to stand a chance.

It doesn't rule him out in respect of him staying at Livi because Carlisle at their worst can get crowds they would get at their best, plus an English L2 side budget is probably the same as large chunks of the SPL clubs.

the risk is someone else going for him, but you should know in a day or tow, going off his interview after the match he's 100% leaving Livingston, gave that usual 'need to talk in the next day or two once this out the way' type interview that managers/players do all the time when they are 100% leaving and don't want to commit.

Carlisle could be a good job for him based on A: being easy to attract players he knows and B: they will give him 2 seasons at least unless he is horrific to build a side which could be quite important for someone moving into a new countries league system.

Matt Jansen is having an interview.
That's not a surprise, of the remaining contenders, he's the one I'd go with as he has some managerial experience, if not a huge amount and has been successful, albeit at a much lower level. I just worry that as a young and inexperienced manager, he needs the backing of everybody at the club, including the fans, and at Carlisle he won't get that.

I fear it would go the way of Lester at Chesterfield or Eames at Barnet, where you can't really blame a rookie manager for not being able to polish the turd he inherited; they make mistakes but have been pushed into a situation where mistakes are harshly punished and the fans' patience is limited.

Michael Flynn might have done well at Newport but to be fair he was in a situation where probably wasn't much pressure on him, 11 points adrift, and could have been an ideal situation to try anything in order to survive. Young managers have also done well in the past at lifting mediocre teams, with appropriate backing, but to come to a real basket-case where avoiding relegation is your goal, you have no money, no fans, no players and everything is stacked against you. I don't know. I just seems a bit like the ritual sacrifice of a club legend to the Gods of football in the hope they look favourably on us.

Hopkin is staying at Livingston.

Is this confirmed? New contract signed?

Quite surprised really. Not cos I thought he’d come to our shambles of a club, but I thought he’d have other attractive offers to tempt him.
