Mané must be an absolute nightmare to handle, I'd hate to be a defender against him.

Still chances aplenty for both sides here.

Another slice of luck for Liverpool, Hoffenheim are fizzling out here.

Thoroughly undeserved imvho. Freekick taken while the ball was moving and from an incorrect position. Hoffenheim have been robbed here. Shameful scenes.

I noticed the moving ball as well mate.

I wonder if the Liverpool fans will be discussing this rule at length as they have done with the offside rule for the last few days mate.

I doubt it mate.

Get that fur our your eyes, we've been boss! :p

Also you can take a freekick from a moving ball these days, the rule came in last season iirc.

Expecting, nay demanding, an in depth post from Bilo once the whistle goes, outlining exactly how and why Liverpool cheated their way to victory. A sad day for what little remains of the integrity of the game. Mate.

In the bag now, surely. Thoroughly deserved. We've had less possession but 4 times the shots on target.

One goal in the home leg and it's done and dusted.

Edit -

A decent keeper would have saved that.

Thoroughly deserved imo. Makes you wonder what could have been if the first penalty was called against Lovren early on. By rights Liverpool should have been down to 10 for 80 minutes.

I was going to say something about how this clean sheet could prove to be very important for Liverpool going forward, renewed confidence etc.

Ha.

Good result for Liverpool in a high-pressure game, they'll be over the moon with that even if the performance wasn't spectacular. All about the result in games like this.

Hoffenheim might just have sneaked back into contention with the goal but I can't see beyond Liverpool now.

Job done. Just about. Better result than performance anyway. Sheesh, we make Arsenal look like Juve at the back.

It's hard what to make of that game if your analysis of a Liverpool victory ever goes beyond the opposition being shit or Liverpool getting lucky.

First, you have to give credit to Hoffenheim, they're bloody good. They didn't lose a single game on home turf last season and today you could see why. Play that game again and it's not often we'll come out victorious, Hoffenheim got the buildup spot on -- every team that intends to keep possession against us in the future should take note. People have short memories but the amount of teams that try to retain possession in their own third against us and not get absolutely battered can be counted twice on one hand since Klopp came in. We didn't make any glaring mistakes in our pressing really, but Hoffenheims angles were spot on for pretty much all of the match.

As for us, conceding one goal away at this lot isn't much to be ashamed about. Kudos to Mignolet for a couple of key saves but it was never his shot stopping that was under scrutiny anyway, he's always been solid on the line. Salah had pretty much the same game he always seems to have, he just missed his chances today. Henderson very good in the first half but rightfully subbed in the second as he faded. TAA very good going forward, less so going back -- he could have prevented Hoffenheim's goal had he not focused on the linesman. Lovren, Matip slightly better but some ways to go yet, Moreno was the best player in the backline which I think is the first time ever for him.

But you have to leave one stanza just for Mané. He's so incredibly intelligent it's remarkable. If you ever were to teach a winger when to move inside and when to move outside, just ask them to watch Mané. Not everything he does comes off but I swear to god he never picks the wrong run ever. This gives him a consistent advantage against whoever he's up against, which makes him significantly more influential than his talents should reasonably allow him to be.

As for the ref, I'm not sure getting away with a slightly moving ball in the middle of the pitch quite equates getting an incorrect penalty against you, as we did. But no, the goal shouldn't have stood. We got lucky in many ways but I wouldn't say we got lucky with the ref -- a half decent penalty taker and we'd have more than a half reasonable complaint.

Roll on Palace.

Was never going to be an easy game going away to a young, energetic, confident Hoffenheim side so the only thing that mattered was the result, and they got that. Conceding the goal late on is a bit of a ball ache for them as it keeps the tie well alive at Anfield, was a good game to watch though as both sides backlines looked quite dodgy, Hoffenheim's line was crazy high. I expect Liverpool to finish the job off next week but it should be another decent game.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we got rid of Andrej Kramaric.
What a lazy, fucking shit penalty that was. He'll play tougher passes to teammates than that.

That's the reason he can't shoot penalties anymore, played a few matches in England and is infected :D What a disaster of a penalty. Should've let a german shoot this one against an english team and not a croatian ;)

Hoffenheim have been the better side, in control of the game but are conspiring to fuck it up so far.
Liverpool have been sloppy but look dangerous on the counter.

The Hoffs were a bit too nervous for me in their first ever match at this level. You could see this especially when they played the ball from the back (normally that's one of their biggest assets, today they created some chances for Liverpool with a too risky play at the back)

Anyway, as I wrote here before Hoffenheim is still too wet behind the ears at this level, the experience will come ....in the Europa League. Congrats to Liverpool, they deserved the win.

TAA ONE OF OUR OWN!

Didn't know he's an American :D

All the best for Liverpool in the CL group stages (and for Hoffenheim in the Europa League). Up until now no German club has yet won at Anfield in a European competition and I don't think Hoffenheim will be the first.

Their first defeat at home in over a year. A shame it took an illegitimate goal to do it.

Watch out now GB mate, if you keep posting this much about us you might give us some credit by mistake. Rule of average and all that.
