They said Liverpool would be the first to go out the Champions League. After all, Tottenham have Lloris and Kane, Utd have Mourinho who knows how to grind out a nil-nil in big games, Chelsea are the English champions, and City are the best team in Europe who are on for the quadruple. How could Liverpool progress when there are teams like that they said, with Karius in goal, Robertson from relegated Hull as left-back, Jordan fucking Henderson, a static Emre Can and James Milner all in midfield; and selling their best player - they'd be lucky to get through the group with that lot and that woeful defense.

Well look at us now, in the semi's of Europe's elite competition once more. It's been a while, but we are back, back where we belong.
Suprised you remembered this was on.

I'm sure you were giving Liverpool your full support, after all the way you lot played against us at the weekend, it's like you were helping save us for this big game. Cheers toddles and bisto Sam.

Some Mourinhoesque "They're all against us" revisionism there Salts. Pretty sure when Spurs drew Real and Dortmund in the group stages while Liverpool got the mighty Sevilla and Spartak nobody was thinking anything like what you said. In fact you drew probably the second easiest group sides after Man Utd.
But y'know, you roll with that.

Yeah if anything people have been cautious predicting how we'd fair in this competition because we overperform against big sides who try to play against us.

Anyway, we had 3-0 and got an away goal early in the second. Roma was the story of the night to be fair, absolutely chuffed for them. Now please please give us Roma.

Great night in Rome , can you guys imagine same tonight in Madrid and does Juve have any chances for it . In my opinion they will win but I dont think they will qualify for the semis :<

My correct score for tonight is
Real - Juve 1: 2
Bayern - Sevilla 2:2 good luck

Actually, I might prefer Real*. I think we stand a better chance against them over two legs than we do in a potential final, and I consider our chances good against both Bayern* and Roma in a one off game. I just would not want to play Real in a final, which is likely provided we get there if we knock out Roma or Bayern.

* Provided they qualify tonight.

If Liverpool get Roma/Sevilla in the semifinals I'll cry.
Actually Sevilla would be fine.

You do know that an eliminated team can't advance to the next round, don't you? ;).
You're implying that Bayern will lose today 0-2...shut up, epic :D

Bring them all on I say!!!

Pissing himself before yesterday's match and now it's "Bring them all on" ;)

But right you are, after yesterday's match Liverpool hasn't to fear anybody in the semi finals. And if they reach the final they should fire Klopp before it because of his "final curse" (only joking, Salty)

yeah, and lost 5 in a row then. Like England 1966, won 1 final...ah wait, bad comparison because they didn't reach another final :D

anyway, too soon to speculate about the final, first they have to survive the semi final

edit: Now I am bit nervous too (like Salty before yesterday's match) after epic has predicted (indirectly) that Sevilla is winning it today . But I hope he's as shite in prediction like in Oakey's predicta in the L2 forum :D

Some of the officiating was abysmal over the two legs, but if you play your away leg without scoring against a team who will score in their away leg you're gonna get knocked out. City were a shambles at Anfield and came away without an away goal. That's what really cost them progression.

I dunno, I think losing both matches was probably a bigger factor.

You only scored through their mistakes, you never created anything yourself in the match.

This delusion going on is cringe of the highest order.

Barcelona heading for the exit. Come on Roma!

With this result and that it's a resounding fuck you to obscene spending.

Like signing Virgil Van Dijk for £75m?

The outlier in the semi finals is Roma, wouldn't be surprised if their wage bill is about half Liverpools.

Nestor Watach‏ @NestorWatach
Roma first side in six years (Chelsea 2012) to upset the elite group of Bayern/Barcelona/Atletico/Juventus/Real Madrid. No one else has managed to win a knockout tie against them

Correct, it's a phenomenal achievement for them. Barcelona are a dominant side but do seem to have a weak spot versus Italian opposition.

I can revise my earlier statement, Real / Bayern will be desperate to get Roma not Liverpool, who are now the weakest side in the competition.

As for Liverpool, if they draw Roma it will be a quite extraordinary stroke of luck - a route to the final without facing any European Royalty.

Hope Bayern and Real are kept apart - will make a good final.

Well done for spectacularly missing the point. Deliberately one suspects, although perhaps I'm giving you too much credit. Van Dijk was one ridiculously expensive signing, rather than an almost entire team full. Also, his purchase was facilitated by the sale of Coutinho for an even more ludicrous fee. To the other team my comment was directed at coincidentally.

As for Roma, their achievement last night in getting to the semi-final eclipses all else in the competition. And I'm aware their team is worth less than Liverpool's, in the same way ours is worth far less than City's.

Roma haven’t even conceded a goal at home yet, not bad since they’ve played Barcelona, Chelsea and Atletico already.

While it's true Roma pay significantly less in wages than we do, I'd wager the gap is similar to that between us and City. But yes, Roma being here is the much bigger upset.

Funny you should bring it up now, rather than when it looked like we would be carrying the significantly lightest wage bill to the semi finals.

Delighted for Pagnell. There's a man who's stuck with his team through thick and thin over the last 10 years (and more, predating this forum)

Liverpool deserved to go through.

City fans are plastic and Guardiola is a massive, massive bellend.

And there's your match report.
