No matter what people say, it was part of football. has no place now, but football is shit now.

Agreed.

Meeting some sound blokes along the way, the music and clobber scene and spending a night or two in the cells - that's what it was all about!

Ah that day at Reading, we totally took over the place and dismantled most of it, one of the worst ones I remember but Walsall away in the extra play off game in the mid 80's was crazy. I remember police vans on their sides and a load of ours steaming in to Walsall's pub and a home fan flying through the window literally seconds later.
As for the old day 'end' thing. Like most clubs, our lot had a go at most places. I don't remember them coming out on top at Chelsea but a large group of ours supposedly stayed on the shed end for the entirety. As for our place, I read that Tottenham and Swansea came close and I do remember the Blades having a right go in the old first division days. It's a long gone inevitability now, thankfully.

Have you? Never read about that one, Sheffield United tried taking over our main stand in a playoff game back in 89 which didn't end well apparently. Was discussed on here a few weeks ago.

I was at that game, think we lost at Aston Gate and drew in the return at Bramall Lane.
There was sporadic running battles in the park walking back to our coach.

One of the older lads back in the day always used to tell me this story:-

Four of them were walking down the Oxford Road - which the above picture is taken on and City smashed up - and a coach load of City stopped....
"Where are your lads?"

"Four of us, here - heading down to meet the rest shortly"

"Ah, okay. We've got 12 coaches down here, think you can match that?"

"We'll see what we can do...."

They got to the pub we used to drink in and City had already packed the place out. Moved onto next one and they had that one too. They walk back towards town and the same coach passes them again....

"Still the four of you?! We've got 14 coaches now!"

Never knew you lot used to have a bit of a mob back in the day, must've watched at least a dozen fixtures with Reading and I've never really seen any trouble that I can recall, which is surprising as there usually is if we take decent numbers somewhere.

Reading have got a mob. Kicked off between us and Reading in both matches in 1999 2000. Also kicked off between Reading and Bristol City on the opening day of the season. Think a lot of them were banned Chelsea boys. Frainy et al

:animatedf: Might have been up in Scunthorpe for that one. City brought big numbers down in 2008, smashed up the buses and tried it on in the town centre.

We were a breeding ground for the Headhunters back then - good lads though bar McIntyre :ffs:

I was at that game and pretty sure my Dad was drinking in the centre all day but didn't see anything, was the last time we sold out at the Madejski. Absolutely nothing the last three seasons and all have been 3k+ unless I missed it again.

Opening day of the 1999 00 season Reading and Bristol City had a massive punch up outside the Madjeski

That was a serious season for fighting. You had Millwall, Burnley, Stoke, Cardiff, Bristol City, Preston, Chesterfield, Wigan, Blackpool, Oldham,Wrexham, Oxford, Luton, Scunthorpe and Reading in the same division.

Genuinely cannot fathom why so many Wednesdayites are happy to pay 36 quid for an early kick off between two less than capable teams. Last season I could understand, but we're both a bit shit this time round. You brought fewer when It was miles cheaper 13/14. Its good support though.

Was on Sky in 13/14 mate, we were also even worse than now, bottom of the table with no win all season.
