Are you comparing April (nailed on for Promotion) with December? Come off it JJH I'm as quick to slate away numbers but 1300 is decent from Brighton imho.
Maybe it was me overestimating Brighton's away support then, but I expected slightly more for such a match of such importance.

It shouldn't be used as a direct comparison, but like you said, we were already effectively promoted come the time of that game, so there wasn't really much riding on it.

Edit: FWIW, from what this stemmed from, I don't think our number is anything to rave about, it's alright, given the time of year and our position. Wouldn't label it 'shit' by any means.

Hm, slightly higher than I expected. Will probably finish on about 1.1k then, which is alright for us.

Preston was a three hour plus journey at 25 quid a pop last season, we took nearly double what they did yesterday.

£20 a pop.

Expected a much bigger home crowd from Huddersfield at that price considering the new found optimism because of the new manager. Not that a Preston fan can have a dig at their home crowds.

There's a comment in MolineuxMix that all season-ticket holders are included in a gate whether they attend a game or not. Is that true? Is that just us or at all clubs? Find that a bit odd. If so, it does beg the question what the purpose is of reporting the attendance at a match....

fwiw, the reported gate at Molineux Friday night was 20,000. There's been some debate about this but it has been reconfirmed by the club as accurate. Anyone remember such a round number being reported before?

Quite a few clubs do it Herts.

We've not had a round number since I've been doing stats but it is not implausible.

Confirmed as 1212 Wednesday at the CCS.

Thanks for that.
The discussion seems to be that, statistically, it's as probable or improbable as any other number. I think it was patly because it was 20,000, so 'round' in two ways.
The other part of the astonishment was that there are 20,000 people living in the UK who would forgo other activities to watch these two inexecrable teams play.

Most clubs do it I think. We're an exception, we see plenty of empty season ticket seats (even against fucking Man United at home, seriously what is wrong with these people) and that is reflected in our announcements (sponsored by tinpot)

But it's allegedly how Brighton have enjoyed 25k every week for the last few years, to give one example, when their home gates last season were greeted with stifled laughter from around a ground visibly containing several thousand empty seats. *Although I'm sure that's not the case this season, credit to them!

Remember going to Derby early last season for a cold Tuesday night game, in which the announced attendance seemed somewhat at odds with what my own eyes were telling me.

Doing well in the percentage of home fans taken away table.

Still got to visit Blackburn, Bolton and Huddersfield.

I had a chat with the other Bournemouth supporter who went to that game. He thought the same. :2thumb:

Our home gates always include ST holders. So, yes they are probably higher than the actual attendees. I guess, the tickets were sold whatever so that person is a fan and intended to attend. Let's not kid ourselves that it's no more than a few hundred at most though

I think the away crowds are down for a lot of clubs this season, ours included, due to the increased number of games on tv. Look at Forest, two games this weekend both of which are not too far to travel but unlikely to see more than a few hundred make the journey.

All good and predictably cutting responses....
But seriously, why is it so poor? Clubs like Brighton and Rowett & Sons (Ferrous Metals) Ltd are up on numbers, presumably because they are winning and riding high.
Our support is down sharply because we are no longer in L1 and also because, as El Guapo has pointed out, we are a shit club with shit fans.

But Cardiff? They're doing well and let's face it, other than car theft and masturbation, what else is there to do in South Wales on Saturday afternoons? I'm perplexed.

What's the reason?

Just shows that mileage is a huge factor when it comes to away followings, but also shows how poor some of the midlands/lancashire/yorkshire teams away followings are.

3 of the bottom 5 clubs for away fans at their ground (Us, Boro and Brighton) are in the top 5 mileage factored away followings.

For some clarification about the 20,000 Wolves figure, the stadium announcer confirmed it was 'exactly' 20k' 3 times.

I was saying Boro were doing well!

Aimed more at Forest, Wolves, Birmingham..

Please, our away support pisses over yours every season, regardless of what league were in or where we have to travel to.
