UpTheShakers obviously hasn't read everything on here about how we wipe our arses with £50 notes because we have so much money.

Fans are fickle bastards - they ebb and flow with their club's successes and failures.

The closer you get to the present the more fickle they get.

Post war there was fuck all else to do for the working man - and that didn't change much for the next 30-40 years.

Now there is so much else in competition for the leisure pound and a poor season can see thousands stay away and they are very hard to attract back. The whole dynamic of football-going has been changed with the advent of Sky so historic comparisons in this day and age will vary greatly almost season by season.

Coventry are much bigger than PNE & Bristol City, you mad bastard.

And as Tom points out, in a city the size of Bristol, having crowds of below 20k regularly, for decades, isn't exactly something to shout about.

I'd keep my head down if I were you mate.

Why is that boss?

Not shouting about anything, our crowds aren't great but certainly better than yours for as long as I can remember. Not sure what relevance proportion of fans to City size has to the conversation. Unless that makes Burnley the biggest club in England?

According to the internet, Bristol is the Uk's 6th largest city (population 400,000+)

Compare this to similarly sized UK Cities

Sheffield - 2x clubs averaging 20,000
Manchester - 2x clubs averaging 45,000 and 75,000
Leeds - 1 club, average 22,000 (also poor)
Newcastle - 1 club averaging 52,000
Bristol - 2x clubs averaging 6,000 and 12,000.. VERY POOR

Undoubtedly we are the second smallest club mentioned. But Greater Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds are all larger Cities and using Manchester is a bad example anyway seeing as United and maybe City are global. Bristol clubs attendances are first and third in their respective leagues despite our capacity restrictions.

If club size is solely decided on fanbase then Bristol City are bigger than us.

If historical league standings and a club's roll of honour mean anything than they're probably not.

But anyway, Barnsley?? fucking hell, I demand justice!

Yup, Sheffield United are the biggest followed by us.

You could argue with our demise and poor attendances this season that there are bigger clubs, but lets be honest there are a million reasons as to why the crowds are low.

I believe Coventry are the only team to win the FA Cup in this division post-war.

And before any MK fan starts, no you didn't win the cup in 88.

My Dad's mate who is a Leeds fan reckons that we are on a par with Sheffield United in terms of club size, excluding home averages.

IMO -

1 - Sheff Utd
2 - Bristol City
3 - Coventry
4 - PNE
5 - Bradford
6 - Barnsley
---------------------
24 - Swindon :fish:

It's all a matter of opinion, but how anyone can say a club who only had 2,500 more home fans than we did away fans in a game at their stadium they just got back are a bigger club than us is beyond me..

I know that's just one example, but historically, we are probably a bigger club than Coventry.

I think we should add what celebs follow our clubs. That'll truly show how big some of us are.

Bradford City: Gareth Gates.

Fuck.

24th. Bradford City.

The Wurzels and Vicky Pollard!
